I WANT A NEW DRUG

But that wouldn’t give me or anyone else the excuse to say that all people that use drugs should be slowly beaten to death in public. That’s so far beyond Kos, it’s astounding.

Agreed. The "perspective" I wish you would grant Mr. Harrell is that something may have just happened in his personal life that caused him to shoot his mouth off.

This is different than a political rant against the President or conservatives. To get that worked up and fantasize about beating and killing people and at the same time have it come from a normally sane writer shows that there may be something else at work here.

As I said in the post, he never should have hit the publish button.

I think I made it pretty clear that before we drag out a cross and nail Mr. Harrell to it I'd like to see an explanation as to why he was, as you correctly point out, so vitriolic. Such an emotional rant could only come as a result of a personal experience with the beast. I hope it's something you and your loved ones never have to deal with.

I read his second post and he seems in no mood to take anything back. Hence, while I still believe your reference to Tourette syndrome was over the top and uncalled for given the stigma society attaches to that disease and the pain you may cause someone who reads your remark who suffers from it, I will concede your main criticism that such threatening language is uncalled for and should be condemned.

RUM, ROMANISM, AND REBELLION

You're right, of course. But Kennedy was fighting against a bias in which the only way he could win was by shaming enough bigots into ignoring his religion, holding their noses, and voting for him.

I think the operative line in my post is "On election day, the American people made a conscious choice to elect a Catholic President not because of his religion, but in spite of it."

SOME OTHER THINGS THE "PEACE BELL" SHOULD BE TOLLING FOR

Bobdog:

General Lemay was complaining as early as mid-July that firebombing was getting less effectve because most of Japan's cities were in ruins.

That said, you're correct. In addition to Hiroshima and Nagasaki being relatively undamaged, Kyoto had been left alone due to both the religious nature of the city as well as it's position as the center of Japanese culture.

All other cities with 50,000 people or more were badly damaged as of August 6th.

To say that we did not dropped the bomb to scare off the Soviets would be wrong.

It would be equally wrong to say that was one of the major reasons we did so.

By every rational account I've ever read, by far and away the major reason we dropped the bomb was the belief that it would bring an end to the war.

From a political point of view, Truman's friend Senator Byrne believed that if the war ended months later than it did wihtout Truman using the bomb, he would probably have been impeached. Every single mother and father and spouse who lost a loved one after the bomb had been proven to work would have cursed him until the day he died.

I know my mother would have - my dad was a paratrooper ready to go for the invasion if we hadn't dropped it.

MOONBAT BLOG TAXONOMY

Ryan:

DU is not a blog...but God! They're so much fun to diss!

Curious that you're the only commenter who brought up race. Is this an obsession for you?

And God how I hope that feller Kaine wins in VA...just think of all the great fodder his stupidity will give this and other blogs to feed on.

Anyone who has "A Massachusetts born and bred, Berkeley-educated liberal coming to you from beautiful blue New England..." on their masthead I steer clear of. Sorta like I'd steer clear of a rabid rottweiler.

I believe Dante reserved the 5th circle of hell for self-flatterers.

The only nerve you hit was the one sitting at the base of your butt. You hit while kicking yourself there.

Are there prizes for diversity of minorities you hate?

Why yes there are!

For instance, whoever can come up with the best putdown of Don here - he being a minority of brainless twits who visit this site - gets a mention in the update.

Interesting analysis except for one thing: I grew up filthy rich and am rich to this day.

...Kinda knocks the chocks from underneath your theory, huh?

BTW - Ann Coulter grew up in an upper middle class family as well.
