THIS WAY TO UTOPIA

"We all know that being provocative in the blogosphere is the quickest way to fame." - Rick Moran

You think? And perhaps the source of the name of this blog, Right-wing Nut House. Get some attention does it?

I was conservative long before I was cast as 'liberal'. What drove me out was the precursor to the right-wing blogosphere, conservative populism. A great example is right-wing sophist Rush Limbaugh. He made millions so now he's got a zillion imitators.

Their rhetoric is filled with angst, hyperbole, data mining, stereotype, hypocrisy, sanctimony, and, most of all, extreme arrogance.

I read Shaws' original comments causing your red-faced outburst. Essentially, he's hoping for a Democratic takeover of Congress and the White House. Most liberals are. So what? He seems to think a catalyst - maybe the only catalyst in his mind - is another 9/11. He bends over backwards hoping one doesn't occur. Note my explanation here doesn't mean I agree with him.

Rationality left conservatives about the time I moved on - actually was kicked out, no room in the big tent.

Your post - I should say posts because I'm going beyond the one I'm replying to - remind me of all the right-wing hate that's been shoved in my face the last few years just for disagreeing.

Conservatism has fallen off a cliff. Ironically, the emotionalism that I, as a conservative, criticized liberals for has infected conservatives in spades. But it's in the form of superficial - phony really - uber-nationalism. I used to complain of liberal political correctness but now a different version has taking over conservatives.

Mention anything conservatives don't like and it's the politics of personal destruction. You're defiling the war-time president. You're pro-al Qaeda. You're in league with terrorism. You hate democracy. You hate America. Or you're simply "nuts" as you call Mr. Shaw. I've heard it all. Gross intolerance. Right-wing political correctness.

Enjoy your angst. I guess to some is looks like moral superiority.

DEMS ON TERRORISM: DON'T WORRY...BE HAPPY

Ridiculous spin.

Contrast your straw man liberals to how conservatives foment fear and hysteria:

WAS ANYTHING TRUE?

Since media bias bothers you so much I'm sure your next rant will be on this http://www.eyesonfox.org/?p=43.

STILL MISSING: FOX REPORTERS AND COMMON DECENCY

There is no bigger critic of Fox News Channel than I. I post about their antics daily at my blog.

But even I took a break to post a hopeful message once news of their video broke today.

THE WORLD, POST AUGUST 22ND

Gee, let me see. George Bush does his sock puppet imitation of Ronald Reagan declaring Iraq, Iran, and North Korea the "axis of evil". Then he invades Iraq believing (or maybe not), essentially, Saddam was sitting on a huge cache of WMD and such a buddy of al Qaeda he was giving them the keys.

Then the right-wing foamers backing him are shocked that Iran and North Korea are redoubling their efforts to build nukes, are talking tough, and don't really trust us enough to become compliant to our wishes. Party mouth organ Fox News is so excited now it can't stop shouting it's "World War III" with glee.

George Bush is making big messes far faster than we and our allies can clean 'em up.

It's time for all the right-wing armchair generals to suck it up. Because I'm not aware of any simple 'bomb them back to the stone age' quick-fix solution. This liberal is calling for something the RNC has no guts for: real sacrifice. The entire world - yes everyone in the UN and Taiwan too - need to boycott their oil. Period.

THE LIEBERMAN INQUISITION

Gee, I thought the "nut house" in your blog's title was sarcasm. Silly me. :)

The right's obsession with Lieberman is an absolute hoot. Right-wing propaganda outlet Fox News can't let it go. I can't count the rants on this topic from the "fair and balanced" network. Here's one hilarious example of spin taped for posterity.

But the only real way to deal with such high comedy is saracsm, IMHO.

AN UNSCHOLARLY, NON-LAWYERLY OPINION ON THE NSA DECISION

Conservative populism includes a strong pining for the good old days. The fact that these good old days harkens back to the 18th or early 19th century only adds to the charm.

Returning to a legal system where "... the courts were considered great entertainment, when judges and juries were routinely swayed not by careful legal reasoning but by the powerful oratory and histrionics of up and coming lawyers" is the solution to perceived liberal judicial activism. Spin the other way - even if that's the real problem here - and it's a happy little world. Welcome to the Right Wing Nut House.

"Not a single Democrat of any stature or visibility has stepped forward to criticize much less reject the opinion from Judge Anna Diggs Taylor..." A friend and I monitor Fox News Channel for a hobby at http://www.eyesonfox.org. I have a clip there of Mort Kondracke mentioning that Patrick Lehey, John Conyers, and Joe Biden have no problem with this sort of program "under the cover of law." http://www.eyesonfox.org/?p=34#more-34

I realize I'm in a nut house so it's not surprising to read populist conservative stereotypes and talking points posing as real fact. But the fact that a judge overturns a decision sustained by, I recall, 5 lower courts doesn't mean the entire legal system is corrupt, rotten, or packed with liberal activists. The only packed, overly politicized court I know of is the Supreme Court. Presidents, both Democratic and Republican, try to pack it with their ideological twins to spin the decisions to the correct political rulings.
