THE ANTI-REASON CONSERVATIVES

@fklehman

The best take on this ever: http://lancemannion.typepad.com/lance_mannion/2005/09/remember_good_o.html

"If the Goverment is a car setting out to give every one a ride to work, then for 40 years the Republicans have been puncturing the tires, pouring sand in the gas tank, stealing the distributor cap, and, whenever they can get their hands on the wheel, driving it straight into the nearest ditch and then, pointing to the wreckage as the tow truck backs up to it, saying, 'See, this proves that people were meant to walk.'

"And they do this so that they don't have to chip in on gas."

May I point out that you're probably not helping the situation when you enable their delusions by inflating the numbers of protesters on the Mall on September 12th. The numbers were not estimated at "a couple of hundred thousand" but between 60,000-70,000.

WHY CONSERVATISM SUCKS RIGHT NOW

I meant to say "an entire movement based around an inciting incident from the American Revolution..."

I'm sure you can find all kinds of crazy stuff about Bush on the interwebs from a few years ago, but I defy you to find a single notable lefty who called for revolution. Yet here you have the founder of one of the largest right wing sites calling for it, as well a Republican running for office in Virginia and an inciting incident from the American Revolution (which is, after all, what the Tea Parties were meant to evoke.

Yes, as a lefty myself I was often embarrassed by some of those on my side of the aisle, but any thinking conservative has to see why anyone with a shred of love for this nation and two brain cells to rub together should be fleeing your movement at full speed.

THE DARK SIDE OF "TRADITIONAL VALUES"

Machiavelli,

We could do this all night.

"If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers...Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage." - Deuteronomy 13:6-10

"The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance. He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked." - Psalms 58:10

"For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped..." - Titus 1:10-11

Steve G,

I pity Rick that he has people like you on his side of the political divide.

When you think of the Bill of Rights, have you ever realized that they were given not to mobs, but individuals. They are in place for the express purpose of preventing the majority from overruling certain rights. If Keith Ellison chooses to have a private photo-op swearing in on the Qur'an, that's up to him. It's not Ellison who's un-American, but those who believe they have the right to stop him.

Good for you, Rick.

As for Machiavelli:

"Say: O ye
That reject Faith!
I worship not that
Which ye worship,
Nor will ye worship
That which I worship.
And I will not worship
That which ye have been
Wont to worship,
Nor will ye worship
That which I worship.
To you be your Way,
And to me mine."

- Surah 109
The Qur'an

It isn't my book, but I figure it drives a lot of the current debate, so I'd read it rather than just quote what others write about it.

IN WHICH I AM HEARTILY SICK OF GLENN GREENWALD

For the love of God, man. Just accept that the FISA law directly deals with this issue and quit embarrassing yourself. It even includes an explanation of what the president can and cannot do in wartime, so, if a single American citizen had their phones tapped without a warrant, Bush broke the law. Period.

LOUDER PLEASE...THE CRICKETS ARE CHIRPING

Well this has been out there a while:

http://nitpicker.blogspot.com/2006/07/nutjobs.html

And the fact that you're over a week late on calling B.S. on the Free Republic should embarrass someone who suggests we should have been quicker on the draw. Sorry, I don't read Protein Wisdom because all of his "penis slapping" talk annoys me. And there were World Cup games to watch.

I do note that you failed to add specific conseratives to your list of "despicable" actors, namely: 1) prominent blogger Rocco DiPippo--who posted the photographer's address; 2) David Horowitz--who linked with approval to DiPippo's post; 3) all the bloggers who linked approvingly to that post--e.g., Malkin, PowerLine; or, even, 4) "Denny K" a college professor who wrote "Go hunt them down and do America a favor. Get their photo, street address, where their kids go to school, anything you can dig up, and send it to the link above. This is your chance to be famous - grab for the golden ring" and then disappeared into the ether.

So much for integrity.
