PROM DATE WITH A PIG

I agree with your update comment that the Hispanic community is not monolithic, but here is California because of the legacy of the anti-illegals Proposition 87, Hispanics now vote predominately Democratic. This is in spite of the fact that on social issues many Hispanics are closer to Republican positions.

Clearlly illegals cannot vote, but there is a very large and rapidly growing legal Hispanic community in the US, and that community is very sympathetic to the illegal community. They understand that US business needs the cheap labor that illegals provide, and that many US businesses exploit and take advantage of the illegals. While the Republican party is all in favor of build walls at the border and other punitive measure directed at illegals, you here almost nothing about actually enforcing the laws against employers who hire illegals and exploit them.

IMMIGRATION LIARS AND THE LYING LIARS WHO HAVE BEEN LYING TO US ALL ALONG

Many years ago, when my daughter was young, we had a legal Spanish Au Pair. The Au Pair had a Mexican boyfriend, who also claimed he was here legally. He worked as chef in an expensive restaurant. Most of the employees of the restaurant were illegals, although they all had forged green cards. The owner of the restaurant was a big supporter of governor Pete Wilson, who was famously anti-illegals. The owner of the restaurant had a private dinner in his home for Pete Wilson, and used the employees from his restaurant to fix and server the meal. So here were all the illegals working in the kitchen, and they started joking, in Spanish, about whether they should poison Pete Wilson in front of Pete Wilson’s security detail, which did not understand Spanish. Obviously, it was just a joke.

The Republican Party is in a really hard place on illegal immigration. Everyone knows that building fences on the border is not a real answer. The real answer is enforcement of the laws against employers who hire illegals. If the illegals could not find work, they would go home. But the employers are big Republican contributors too, and the last thing they want is enforcement of work place rules against hiring illegals. Under the current administration the number of cases filed against employers for hiring illegals has gone to almost zero. What else would you expect from a business friendly administation?

Either we get serious about enforcing employer rules, or we give up and grant them amnesty.

WHAT DEMOCRATS BELIEVE

Cynthia McKinney is an ex-member of Congress. She was defeated in the Democratic primary. She hardly represents mainstream Democratic opinion.

What I find astounding is that 12% of Republicans think George Bush knew about the 9/11 attacks in advance. You wouldn’t expect Democrats to think well of Bush, but one out of every 8 Republicans? That is crazy.

TIME IS NOW THE BIGGEST ENEMY IN IRAQ

Rick,

This is one of the few discussions of the situation in Iraq that gets past the meaningless talking points that both sides in Washington throw at each other, and tries to understand what is really going on in Iraq and what we could really do about it.

While I’m sure the partisans on both sides will start throwing their talking points at you, I think you should be congratulated for thinking about what is best for the country rather than what is best for your political party.
