TOP TEN THINGS THAT CREEP ME OUT ABOUT OBAMA

Obama speaks in platitudes because knows his followers are projecting on him their hopes and dreams, they will find out what he is really about after the election just as conservatives found out what Bush was all about after they elected him. Conservative are making a huge mistake if they think this guy is an “empty suit”. Obama in Chicago and nationally has defeated better connected and financed campaigns, he is a very shrewd and smart politician. Of course that does not make him a shrewd and smart leader, but the guy is not another George Bush. Both political parties have shown themselves to be empty suits when it comes to doing what they say they are going to do. Right now my inner debate is should I continue to punish the Republicans for their ripping up the Contract with America or vote for a divided government where neither one of these abortions of political parties has all the marbles.

RUMBLINGS FROM BELOW THE MOUNTAINTOP

He left kool aid drinkers will find out the same thing the right kool aid drinkers found, as soon as “their side” takes power the agenda is forgotten.

THE PATRIOT GAME

Lenin used appeals for social justice to justify his dictatorship, Hitler used appeals to patriotism to seize power in Germany. I have come to the conclusion that Liberals and Conservatives are two sides of the same emotional coin, the two sides get worked up over different things, but the bottom line is that they are both getting worked up. There is nothing wrong with having an intense passion about something but neither seems to believe that they could possibly be manipulated by someone for their own ends. When ever some one is trying to appeal to my emotions over some issue that raises a red flag for me. I get choked up every time I hear Lincolns Gettysburg Address, but don‘t like anyone trying to use it for a political purpose. As a centrist I want to see a pro and con argument that shows some reasoning, not some emotional diatribe about how our side is right and the other side is in league with the Devil. Centrists however are a small minority, no more than 10% of the electorate, and utterly despised by both sides for not lining up for their daily dose of Kool-Aid.

KILL THE MESSENGER! OR IS THE MESSAGE ALREADY DEAD?

With grace and elegance W. F. Buckley could shred many a Liberal program or view. What started out as an intellectual movement has become Limbaugh and a bunch of Evangelicals. Drop the liberal bashing, go back to the roots of the movement and start again. True Conservatism, has a lot to offer, and I think a widespread appeal.

9/11 TRUTHERS GUT PUNCHED BY HISTORY CHANNEL

I don’t necessarily buy the Bush bashing charge as the motivation behind the truthers, there is a lot of money to be made selling people like Eric and redpill8 these types of “theories”.

O'REILLY VERSUS HOLLYWOOD

What I want to see is a movie where a real Conservative bitch slaps a ditto head and says:

“Real Conservatism is about the marketplace, not whining about how unfair things are, if the ‘300’ can make a profit then there is a place for Conservative movies. We will get the message out using our Conservative power of free markets. Grow a set of balls and stop whining.”

The ditto head would then realize the error of his ways and the two would race off in the Deficit Mobile, a vehicle powered by farm subsidies.

THE IRAQ CONUNDRUM

OK, I’ll play devils advocate, why would it be a “catastrophe”?. Osama’s dream is for a Sunni Caliphate that takes up a third the world with the capital of Baghdad. If we leave and the slaughter begins the Sunnis will be on the run, from Baghdad and the rest of Iraq. Saudi Arabia has nowhere near the combined Shiite population of Iraq and Iran, so if the war spreads the very holy lands of Mecca and Medina might be threatened with a Shiia takeover. Osama’s dream becomes a nightmare of “heretical“ Shiites controlling all of the Islamic holy sites. For the sake of Sunni Islam AQ must drop the attacks on the West and focus all of it’s efforts against the Shiia in a regional Holy War. The end result is that radical Islam is consumed in the flames, yes millions die but the radicalism that brought on the destruction is forever discredited. By the time it all ends the “transgressions” by Israel or the US will pale to insignificance when compared to the depredations of the Islamic Radicals.

THE SURGE: THEN WHAT?

SlimGuy, interesting read indeed. Question, did not the French Right destroy itself as a political force over Vietnam and Algiers? Unfortunately that might be another lesson this country will repeat.

Government in the Middle East has long been a source of patronage and a money making proposition. Graft, bribes etc. are the standard way of doing business. This is why splitting the country into three parts makes the most sense, as one of the causes of this sectarian violence was access to the governments till. Eliminate the fight over the governmental graft money machine and you do two things. First you shift the fight over graft from a fight between sects to an internal fight in each region, this cuts down the sectarian violence as the players turn on each other internally. The second thing you achieve is that the governments of these areas, despite the graft, still have to provide basic security for their people. This cuts down on the criminal gangs that thrive on , and profit from, the chaos. This is basically what has happened in the Kurdish areas, there is law and order and the two parties have divided up the graft machinery. This is by far not a perfect solution, and yes sectarian violence would still exist, but at least at a more manageable lower level, particularly when the US could severely punish local governments that allow cross border raids.
