AMERICA CAN PERFECT SOCIALISM

Yeah, we'll perfect socialism just like we perfected conservatism.

WILL THE HARD LEFT PUSH OBAMA OVER A CLIFF?

Just like Bush ignored the conservatives Obama will do the same when he looks at the at the significant political down side of supporting their schemes. He does not have much choice, with the deficit he inherited there will be little room for much of an increase in spending even with a tax hike. With a Democratic congress Obama will have more of a problem with his base but the blue dog Dems and the remaining Republicans can serve as a check. The problem will be when the left turns on the blue dogs and funds candidates to run against them in the primaries. That will be the recipe for disaster in that any candidate that appeals to them will not stand a chance against a Republican in the general election.

A NEW AGE NOW BEGINS

Now it is time for the Liberals to be disappointed. Obama is taking control of a government that has a massive amount of debit, and by 2010 a social security program that will be taking in money to support it. He will be hard pressed, even if he raises taxes, to fund the programs he proposes. He has already warned of this, but I don’t think the uber liberals have gotten the message. Of course Bush will be blamed for this, just like Clinton was blamed by the Republicans. Some of it will be justified, you can’t ignore the fact that the Republicans even before the bailout made LBJ look like a fiscal conservative, but the excuses will wear off quick. What will the Conservatives do? This is the time they could make some gains if they drop the liberal bashing and offer alternatives, but with the Limbaugh kool aid cult noise machine in full swing I’m not holding my breath.

ELECTION DAY THOUGHTS

I voted for Bush and other Republicans thinking I would get fiscal responsibility and at least some effort to reduce the side of government. Three weeks after the Republicans the spending restrictions were gone and we were off to the deficit spending races. I was expecting a virulent conservative revolt but there was nothing. How did Rove get away with it? Easy, he put the Limbaugh and company noise machine to work and brought out the liberal bashing bauble and like a bunch of easily distracted children the “conservatives” went right along with it. The first lesson to learn is that Conservatism is a political philosophy, not a “brand” to be “sold”’ by Rove and his sales force of Coulter, Hannity and Limbaugh. Real Conservatism has solutions to today’s problems but all I see is one liberal bashing tirade after another. If you want Conservatism to be relevant ignore what the left is doing and offer your solutions, dump the liberal bashing and explain the alternatives to a big all encompassing government. Quite frankly I don’t see this happening, the movement has been a kool aid cult for so long that it will take a new generation not poisoned by the uber partisan Limbaughs to take up the fight.

WHAT MIDDLE AMERICA THINKS OF THE ELECTION

“Does anyone truly believe that a majority of the American people want their President to fail even if he is of the opposition party?”
emgersh, read up on how Clinton was treated by the right to get an idea of how Obama will fare. When it comes to venom the right and left are carbon copies of each other.

Ah yes, the hearty yeoman farmer rising like Cincinnatus the defense of the Republic when called. I grew up in the heartland also. Yes the virtues of honesty, perseverance, hard work. I also remember driving through Wichita and seeing the effects of government largess, the nice highway system and the subsidized farms. If Conservatives want smaller government these are the people who have to be convinced that the subsidies have to go, and that will be a rude awakening for many of them.

'WE DIDN'T KNOW" WILL NOT BE AN ACCEPTED EXCUSE

Purge them! Purge the elites! Hilarious, sounds like something from a Red Guard rally during the cultural revolution. Go ahead and kick out the RINOs and have your “ideologically pure” party, who wants dissention and the give and take of ideas anyway. What you want is a liberal bashing cult where you can drink the kool aid, open the Holy Book of Unassailable Truths, and froth at the mouth every time you read the word “liberal”. It’s going to be a loooong time in the wilderness.

REMAKING THE RIGHTROOTS

Purge them! Purge the elites! As stated above, sounds like something from a Red Guard rally during the cultural revolution. WHO ARE YOU CALLING A MODERATE?

Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter… well you exposed the rot of Conservatism. Here is a belief I’d like to see Conservatives adopt.

“I believe that liberal bashing is not a political philosophy. I will offer well thought out sound solutions to the country’s problems rather than just denigrate the other sides ideas.”

You can bash liberals from dawn to dusk and it will not get you one step closer to smaller government. You need to convince corporations, farmers, and a whole host of other groups that there is an alternative to the federal tit. Yes I know liberals have bonehead government heavy solutions to everything but the failure of conservatism was that it offered no alternatives, just whining about what liberals were doing.

IN DEFENSE OF PEGGY NOONAN (AND OTHER CONSERVATIVE APOSTATES)

Political conversations with the right and left are always the same thing. Both sides open their Book of Holy Unassailable Truths, take a big gulp of kool aid, and spew at the other side for every ill known to mankind. Neither side takes the time for an honest evaluation of their beliefs, it is always some rant about the other side. The only real intellectual movement left in this country is in the middle, and because we disagree with both sides we get the venom from everybody. If Conservatism is going to go back to the intellectual roots of W. F. Buckley the first step will be to get rid of Limbaugh and Coulter, good luck with that.
