REACTION TO THE MEHLIS REPORT

Tell me again why the bureaucrats like Wilkinson and lying Joe Wilson who thought we should maintain the status quo is the ME were right and the President who said nuts to that, was wrong..

Tectonic shifts are taking place in an area of the world which most threatened peace. And Bush is never given credit for his bold and correct assessment of what needed to be done.

AL GORE IN SWEDEN: THE SPEECH HE SHOULD HAVE GIVEN

ROFL--Hit the nail on the head. (Did you notice Ted K says he'll support Kerry if Kerry runs again? I'm wearing my fingers out, crafting letters to both Kerry and Gore, begging them to run again.;) I want to see more and more of those grand "debates" during the Dem primaries with 90 candidates onstage.Gotta run. I forgot to make the same plea to Sharpton...)

DANCING ON THE GRAVES OF BLACK PEOPLE

It might not have been a bad idea to have someone monitoring the reporting..In fact, for lots of reasons it seems a worthwhile idea. But, of course FEMA's job is to "coordinate" relief and that means someone on the other side has to be "coordinating"--that is, reporting such needs and working with you to decide how to provide it.

As usual, this is a beautifully written piece which contains much I agree with. But I still am puzzled as to exactly what you think FEMA should have done better.

Even Nancy Pelosi pressed for an answer for this question could not come up with one, so you are not alone.

I think that the more jobs the federal government undertakes of this nature--no matter the intricacies of the federa; structure--the more people leap to place blame on whoever is President.

Looking at past FEMA responses to hurricanes (as Investor's Business Daily has) this wasn't bad, though the disaster was worse and the performance of the local officials so bad on every basic that the task seems to me to have been impossible.

Perhaps , whoever, is charged with this job, we must acknowledge the limits of human capability to deal with it have been reached or nearly so.

Excellent. And so was the timeline, Rick.

WAR IN IRAQ REACHING A CRITICAL POINT

Here's a promising report:
BAGHDAD, Aug. 14 -- Rising up against insurgent leader Abu Musab Zarqawi, Iraqi Sunni Muslims in Ramadi fought with grenade launchers and automatic weapons Saturday to defend their Shiite neighbors against a bid to drive them from the western city, Sunni leaders and Shiite residents said. Dozens of Sunni members of the Dulaimi tribe established cordons around Shiite homes, and Sunni men battled followers of Zarqawi, a Jordanian, for an hour Saturday morning. The clashes killed five of Zarqawi's guerrillas and two tribal fighters, residents and hospital workers said. Zarqawi loyalists pulled out of two contested neighborhoods in pickup trucks
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/13/AR2005081301209.html

Would a civil war be such a disaster? Who would lose? The revanchist Sunnis who are greatly outnumbered I think. I don't like that idea but neither do the more sentient Sunnis who seem reluctantly to have come aboard. They are trapped in the middle between the Kurds and the Shiites and have no oil.

In any event, I think that outcome is not as likely as you think.

Remember the pre-election handwringing(postpone it, there will be massive violence, it'll never be pulled off) and then the claims the Constitution could never be agreed upon? And yet the Iraqis seem to have pulled off both.

HOLY SOCKS! BERGER AND ABLE DANGER?

Of course it was Berger who released the news of the investigation at a time least likely to harm him or Kerry. http://www.americanthinker.com/articles.php?article_id=3704
