IT'S BECAUSE I LOVE YOU

The real issue is whether you have given up on Jack Bauer and 24?

WEAK TEA

What's amazing to me is even seeing two people professing anything resembling conservatism out demonstrating. The usual count is a lot fewer than that. 300 is gathering anywhere is simply beyond belief.

Anyway, it looks like 24 has bit the dust when such a staunch fan as you don't even mention the last episode. This will be 24's next to last year unless Jack gets a bailout from the Pres.

EXPLOITING TAXPAYER RAGE NOT THE WAY BACK FOR GOP

There are plenty of GOP "new ideas", or more aptly stated, "better ways" than the Obama way.

Didn't the Left mostly use rage to drive it to victory over a seven year period along with Bush's and the GOP ineptitude and mistakes. Most of those that voted for Obama didn't have a clue about facts or even who they were voting for. It seemed to be all, well, emotional? It did seem to work? Doh?

We now have Obama making egregious acts, sometimes several times a day. It would seem the GOP should pick up the outrage cry along with presenting their ideas. I don't believe anyone will get voter attention by shouting "we're transparent" from the rooftops and byways of America.

Voter memory has a shorter lifespan than an ice cream cone on a hot day in Aruba. Saying you're now no longer dishonest or whatever is simply wasted breathe.

THE SANTELLI RANT: A RED BULL RUSH

The problem with Obama and Marxism in general is the "from each according to his ability" and forgetting folks usually would prefer to keep what they make and give to those they consider in need. It's the lack of fairness. It is a groundswell but only for the half that actually pay income taxes.

Obama is dead set on getting to a population that is 51 percent dependent. We'll see if he makes it.

If Obama does get to the tipping point one wonders if he'll go the Chavez route and spend his next term in office trying to make his Presidency a simple dictatorship versus the complex one he's now building.

DAVID FRUM, THE BIG TENT, AND SPLENETIC CONSERVATIVES

The problem with your list of beliefs is this one:

"I believe in a just and moral society with as clear a sense of right and wrong as is consistent with reality."

This really begs the issue. Few will agree on the meaning of "moral","sense of right and wrong" and "consistent with reality". You make a good case of showing that as long as the moral reality pragmatist is part of national politics the Republicans must either swallow their convictions in order to win or be like Henry Clay.

For example, although I'm not a Catholic, I have read the Doctrine of the Faith and various Vatican papers on abortion. It is very clear that any act furthering abortion is a mortal sin subject to automatic excommunication. To a practicing Catholic this is a "very big deal". If abortion is a national issue, I can't see how a practicing Catholic would not consider this a true "litmus test". If a candidate they prefer supports abortion it puts them in a position of voting for that person and then having to go immediately to their priest to confess, ask forgiveness and do penance. Such a choice - vote Republican pro-abortion and lose your eternal soul if you don't make it to the priest in time. Gee.

I suspect the only solution would be to place all those thinks into the realm of the 10th Amendment and take the position it is something the States need to deal with. This would remove the "social" from the "social cons" issue from all Federal offices. Thus abortion, marriage, gays and whatever else there is that is "moral" would be excluded from issues in Federal elections. That would mean there the only "litmus" test for conservatives would be if they support the 10th Amendment - period. A much easier position to be in favor of than what we have today.

To beat a dead horse a bit more, the Republicans would have a plank that seeks to enforce the 10th Amendment. If necessary, add an Amendment which enumerates the scope of the 10th Amendment. Toss in all the "morality" issues of abortion, gays, marriage, language, etc., so that people can decide these local and at each State level. It would also limit the Supreme Court's jurisdiction to review these state issues. The Founding Fathers and the Federalist Papers would be vindicated. Whether a candidate is pro-abortion or pro-fetus or pro-anything would become just a private issue.

Thus, Presidential, Senatorial and Representative elections would then be ran on truly Federal issues.

THE TAO OF JACK

My wife left part way through this episode to watch a taped rerun of "As The World Turns". She said it was more realistic and believable.

Rick's recaps are better this year given the material he has to work with. The last episode was more like watching a herd of flies having a gas passing tournament than 24. Maybe they're working up to making more Pink Panther films.

WE HAVE OVERCOME TODAY

Now with that off our chest, you can go back to what, I believe, you do best: writing about Jack Bauer and 24. Not that we don't enjoy your insights on political things but your 24 recaps are about the best literature in today's blog world.

Coming soon. And I'm sure tomorrow I will go back go skewering Mr. Obama's plans to giveaway our future. But today, we are witnessing a hinge of history - an event that might happen once a century. Judging by my admirers over at PJM, it appears that American's ignorance of their own history is alive and well.

24 FUMBLES OPENING KICKOFF

As my wife said, "Would you give your life for Sangala? The draft must have been implemented."

This may be 24's finale.

DO YOU WANT BARACK OBAMA TO SUCCEED?

You're 100% correct on the conclusion. Obama has been playing the Grim Eco Reaper. No way the pols will not enact just about all of his stimulus. The only really important fight in the Obama term will occur before he's sworn in. As you predict, Republicans chances are worse than zero about being able to block the "omnibus stimulus bill". More probable is some will jump on the vote-buying bill and actually expand it.

Buy gold.

WHAT WE NEED IS A GOLDILOCKS GOVERNMENT

One of the better reasoned articles this month. As Ned Barnett pointed out in today's American Thinker article on Obama's end run around Congress the stars are aligning to make the stimulus bill the sun setting of the little government folks, conservatives, libertarians and fiscal conservatives et al.

We have all this activity including Ted Kennedy writing the national health care act on his hospital bed. Rahl Emanual declares never let a crisis go to waste. Tom Daschle states it's best to not debate controversial health care. Obama openly stoking the doom and gloom by saying the Grim Reaper is in the building and will not leave until his stimulus bill passes.

A great "strategery" to strike at this time. One would not be surprised if even amnesty for illegals is tossed in as part of the "recovery" since all economic issues would need to be dealt with in toto. As Rick points out the Congressional Republicans have almost a Hobson's choice. Add some drama, perhaps, of votes on Jan 19 at midnight or such with suspension of the rules including filibuster if needed and a new day will truly dawn on Jan 20. The MSM likely will not even give a Republican (including McCain) face time.

On the plus side, now would be a good time to invest in green companies. Anyone know if there is a market in union futures?
