POST HOC CRITICISM OF OBAMA TRIP JUSTIFIED

granted, the man hasn't accomplished much. but i think Moltenorb's right-- this was a gesture, no more. yes, he should definitely be putting more time and energy into afghanistan, among other things (i mean, was there no real game plan prepared already? afghanistan was sitting there waiting for the next POTUS).

but the olympics bid, and it's success or failure? indicative of little.

DEFENDING POLANSKI: 'IT'S NOT RAPE-RAPE'

Alex:

great caricature of common right-wing idiocy on homosexuality! spot on, man. spot on! wow.

sorry, rick. whoopi goldberg and deborah winger? really?

i just don't see the american left per se leaping to defend polanski here in the way you seem to imply. perhaps the argument could be made that this brand of reaction is a 'leftist' failing; but you haven't made it.

GET READY FOR 'HOUSING MELTDOWN: THE SEQUEL'

this employed Gen-Xer agrees one-hundred percent (and extra points for the sloth analogy).

A NEW AGE NOW BEGINS

Well said! Partisanship does not equal hackery. I hope more of you readers can see that.

IF ELECTED, OBAMA WILL BE MY PRESIDENT

I can't say I agree with every word; but overall, good post, Rick!

It's sad, though, and telling, that so many of your readers equate reasonable with "liberal" or "weak." Here we have grown-ups shrilly bitching (hmmm, like "2 year olds"?) that 'the liberals got to do this, so we get to do that'. Maybe you people want some cheese with your whine? Weren't you ever told you have to act like an adult to be treated like one?

I personally thought that, outcome aside, Bush v. Gore was fought on the wrong merits. Imagine: a Democrat actually fighting a case on the basis of "state's rights" rather than "voter's rights"! Unbelievable.

But either way, love him or hate him (and to be completely honest, with me it's more of the latter than the former), George W. Bush was, and is, my President. And whoever wins this time around - McCain or Obama - will also be my President, with myself playing the part of the loyal gadfly.

I hope there are plenty more reasonable (note: not to say non-partisan) folks out there willing to do the same.
