BLOG SERIES ON "WHAT AILS CONSERVATISM?" STARTS TOMORROW

Sounds like an interesting idea Rick; I look forward to reading your upcoming series. As a Moderate myself, I am very interested in the future of Conservatism in the United States, now that it is seemingly at a nadir. However, if "join me" is a concept best reflected in replies to your posts, one can only hope that this series attracts more notice than your articles on Lebanon did. I have a bad feeling that criticizing Obama is the best way to go if you measure success in this way; hope you resist that temptation. Not that you shouldn't criticize him; just don't let it stop you writing about more important things.

52 SECONDS OF VIDEO OF OBAMA'S PLAN FOR UNILATERAL DISARMAMENT

The point I was making about our Armed Forces being drained of manpower in Iraq, courtesy of Bush, is that 130,000 brave men and women are not available to defend our interests elsewhere in the world. N. O'Brain, I am glad to hear that the military is increasing the number of enlisted personnel, but will it be by enough to cover for all 130,000? How many Marines will we be able to send off at a moments notice (without subtracting from our forces in Iraq) when the new enlistment goals are reached? Is it more than before Iraq started? Questions like these make Obama's promise to bring the troops home seem attractive to many people.

SShiell, thank you for reminding me about Obama's Pakistan comment; I had quite forgotten about it. Doesn't it seem quite at odds with his 52 seconds of disarmament blather? I mean, how can one person be pro-war with a (questionable) ally, and no-nukes at the same time? This is something that does not add up. He's sounding like a politician!

If the military tells President Obama that it can't defend our interests, it will be more likely due to Bush's draining of our manpower in Iraq, rather than pie in the sky rhetoric from years past. Plus, I rather prefer Obama's idea of what our "interests" really should be than Bush or McCain. Not that I am convinced he is better on national security than McCain, but I believe he certainly would be less likely to get us entangled in another foreign adventure. Isn't John McCain doing "bomb bomb Iran" just as scary?

NO SERIOUS BLACK GOP CANDIDATES

How is this different from Affirmative Action?

THE 'MAN ON A WHITE HORSE' SYNDROME

Somebody can't tell the difference between a statement and being sarcastic...no need to name names! Now is the time for my favorite Scott Adams quote:

Dance, monkey, dance!

First Nazi rallies, now Jim Jones...so foolish of me not to see the similarities with Obama! Of course the comparison was totally lost on me, perhaps I should upgrade my basic cable and watch the History Channel! Seriously retire05, you are going to have to try harder.

Ah, comparing the Obamanicacs to a Nazi rally...what a interesting and yet utterly meaningless comparison! Quite sure you can just google "large political rallies of history" and come up with a whole crop of politicians who inspire people. A large mix of Liberals, Moderates, Conservatives and Fascists of all stripes who have Obama's ability to inspire the masses.

But lets kill the comparison, shall we? Let's see, which minority group is Obama planning on going after once he is in power? Who is he planning on torturing? Will all other political parties be banned? I could go on, but you get my point. Why not compare Rick to Communists because they are both Atheist? Like comparing Obama to Nazis, this comparison is total BS; holding no truth other than a superficial similarity or two.

All this gnashing of teeth is blinding us to the real strengths and weaknesses of the person being scrutinized. If you want me to vote against Obama, decrying a mass popular rally 3000 miles away from me is not meaningful. Why can't you make your readers enthusiastic about the other candidate? Oh right, you and many other (small r) republicans dislike him also! What does this really say about the Republican party other than that they are out of new ideas? To be sure the Democrats are also lacking in this regard, but I expected that.

Obviously, this is all about Obama, but isn't it really about Bush? Without 8 years of this turd named George, Barack wouldn't be here. Methinks Tim in post number 12 has the harsh truth well stated.

Lighten up Rick, I'm sure in 8-12 years from now, some Conservative superstar will emerge and start drawing huge crowds; then you can defend him from Nazi comparisons by Left-wingers. And the cycle continues...

WILL THE NEXT AMERICAN PRESIDENT BETRAY LEBANON?

The Second Betrayal of Lebanon? What does one call the 1982-83 intervention and withdrawal after the Beirut barracks bombing? Considering the 7 years of war that went on after we left, doesn't that count as a betrayal? (Not to mention to those 241 Servicemen who died?) The THIRD betrayal in a generation sadly seems more appropriate to me...

THE TOTAL WITLESSNESS OF OBAMA APOLOGISTS

This is grasping at straws here...nothing has been proven that Obama actually did anything to help Rezko or some group Ayers was associated with. Is this Idiocy on Obama's part to associate with fools? Damn straight! Is it a crime? Nothing has been proven or even alleged by the appropriate authorities, so at this point its hard to say " yes. There is much to actually criticize Obama on, but all this anger about what may well end up as molehills is beginning to sound a whole lot like Whitewater and Vincent Fostor circa 1992.

Face it, does anybody in here actually support or even like John McCain? Of course not. Because if he was partially admired here, there would be no need to tear down Obama to convince yourselves to vote for him! Listen, all 3 candidates are quite flawed, but as far as I am concerned, only Hillary is totally unacceptable. Therefore, it is a choice between McCain and Obama. Listing character flaws, naming questionable associations, and angry rants about who hates the USA more more won't help this country make up its mind. It just serves to embitter us. Left and Right need to chill, seriously...

This is all interesting up to a point, but I it would be nice to hear an actual critique of Obama, rather than damnation by association. Again, our current president and his family have deep ties with the House of Saud, the biggest terrorists on the planet. Yet somehow people manage to hurl legitimate criticism at Bush without bringing that up. Likewise, there is plenty that Obama has done that makes him vulnerable and open to question as a presidential candidate.

Yet few in the blogsphere have expressed a line of reasoning that would actually make an undecided want to vote for him or not. Just personal attacks mostly based on the company he keeps or once kept. Its the same with Clinton or McCain. No reasoned critiques. Just anger and outrage on all sides. Frankly, I'm having a hard time buying any of it.
