GONZALEZ: CAN EVERYONE BE RIGHT?

...it is legal for Congress to impeach a cabinet official.

Please identify the impeachable offenses committed by Gonzales, Rumsfeld, Rice and the other administration officials who have been the targets of repeated calls for resignation by cantankerous Democrats, and I'll gladly concede your point.

Schumer, Leahy, Kennedy, and any other Democrat who thinks its their prerogative to appoint cabinet members either needs to a) read the Constitution and drink a big glass of STFU juice or b) run for President and win. I stopped counting long ago the number of times one of these clowns "demanded" the resignation of a Bush administration cabinet member, and they're out of their minds if they think Republicans won't remember these antics the next time we have a Democrat in the White House and a Republican majority in Congress.

A RESPONSE TO GLENN GREENWALD

“Muslims go home” may prove the ignorance of the commenter but it hardly rises to the level of a hanging offense.

You're an unabashed racist and xenophobe, Moran! jk :-)

Seriously, when people like Greenwald level charges of racism, homophobia, etc., at those with whom he disagrees, he's simply following leftist doctrine. Throw enough sh*t, and some of it's bound to stick, right?

When one is a leftist and has the lion's share of the American punditocracy on their side, one's accusations are paramount, and the truth be damned if it doesn't fit the narrative.

OBAMA WILL SURRENDER MORE QUICKLY THAN HILLARY

No matter how much spadework was done by our diplomats and envoys, the fact is we would be giving these cutthroats exactly what they want without getting anything of substance in return.

Isn't this exactly what happened with the bogus nuclear non-proliferation treaty that the peanut farmer negotiated with the Norkos?

Obama's gaffe is simply reason #1,674,283 why Democrats can't be trusted on issues of national security. They gladly kowtow to the most vile tyrants in the world and then somehow manage to convince themselves and their MSM lackeys that they're elevating America's status and reinforcing its leadership credentials.

ARE CONSERVATIVES REALLY HOPING FOR ANOTHER 9/11?

...because of the viciousness and polarization of our politics, each side sees the other as a bigger threat than the terrorists.

I don't think leftists are the enemy - I just think they're exceedingly infantile in their views concerning national security, taxation, etc. They are the ones who look at people like me - upper middle class white Protestant males - and see everything that's wrong with America.

Given the fact that they and their ilk have many more allies in the MSM than we do, it stands to reason that they should bear the lion's share of the responsibility for perpetuating the notion that half the country is the "enemy" of the other half. I know they hate me and those who share my views, and they're welcome to continue claiming I'm the antithesis of everything good and noble in America. But if they or anyone else expect that such insolence will be met with anything but a curse, they're woefully mistaken.

NEW JIHADI VIDEO GIVES HEART TO TERRORISTS

If confronting terrorism will always breed more terrorists anyway, perhaps continuing to attack the state sponsors of terrorism would be an exercise in futility given the nature of jihad today – not centrally organized and largely home grown.

The facts belie yor assertion. The United States has not (yet) implemented military solutions for dealing with the major state sponsors of terrorism, such as Iran and, yes, Saudi Arabia. Iraq and Afghanistan were arguably soft targets, and it remains to be seen whether ongoing military committments in these places will be tenable for the long haul. Given the current condition of out military, anything short of a nuclear attack won't persuade conuntries like Saudi Arabia and Iran to cease the gloabl war by terrorist proxy they've been waging against the United States for teh last 30 years.

If it seems like I'm rambling here, please excuse me. My point is, terrorists like those who executed the September 11 attacks don't just appear out of nowhere. They continue to enjoy logistical and financial support from even those states our government tells us are our allies. And as far as terrorists assuming the mantle of super-empowered individuals is concerned, they're not exactly islands in a sea of humanity. They also need the cooperation and/or complicity of others to achieve their objectives. So the President's pledge to not distinguish between terrorists and those who aid and abet them rings hollow when he refuses to confront a state like Saudi Arabia.

Whether a tenable soultion consists in military action, law enforcement measures or diplomacy, no solution will work until there's concensus among the people of this country that a) we are at war whether we like it or not and b) we recognize that it's an endeavor that results either in victory OR defeat.

LIVEBLOGGING THE CONTINENTAL CONGRESS - JULY 4, 1776

Thanks for the liveblogging series. It does provide a more "immediate" insight into seminal events like the signing of the Declaration than traditional historical accounts.

Happy Independence Day, Rick. I hope all of your American readers will take a moment to reflect on the blessing that is theirs to be a citizen of the United States of America.

SCOOTER SCOOTS AWAY

Rick,

Just checked out the Puffington Toast, and there are about two dozen screeds on this.

Two question for all the leftists who read comments here.

1) When Bush leaves office, against whom will your perpetual 2 minute's hate be directed?

2) Under what circumstances could the leaders of your party and your punditocracy possibly be more infantile?

CAGE MATCH: ASSIMILATION VS. MULTICULTURALISM

Rick,

Throughout history, and even today in most parts of the world, when people of different religions, races, ethnicities, etc., have tried to live together in the same place, it's been called war. In America, we call it diversity, but I would venture a guess that a handful of Americans prefer that this dynamic be more like it is in other places. Call me a cynic, but if there's an opporunity to leverage some political advantage from discouraging immigrant communities from assimiliating, I'll bet my right arm certain politicians will exploit it.

And before anyone points their finger and howls "Racist!", bear in mind that those who would keep immigrants from becoming Americans are the only bona fide chauvinists in this debate. They don't believe immigrants are capable of becoming American. If they did, they wouldn't be doing their damnedest to ghettoize immigrant communities.
