I know I'll catch hell for stating this, but here goes...
The Iraqi government must distinguish between Iraqi "insurgents" fighting Americans and the foreign terrorists trying to make Iraq into another Afghanistan.
Whatever the motives are for the Iraqis to fight Americans, any objective observer can conclude that people are inherently entitled to defend their homeland against foreign invaders. The Iraqi fighters who have used abominable tactics and have intentionally targeted Iraqi civilians must be dealt with in whatever manner the Iraqi government sees fit. But I don't think it's our prerogative to compel the Iraqis to try and punish their own citizens for fighting Americans.
On the other hand, we can only hope whatever justice the Iraqi government chooses to mete out to the foreign terrorists will be swift and brutal (such as a rope and a tree). We must insist that these predators not be granted amnesty simply because it will a)impart legitimacy to the notion that Muslims have the right to murder "infidels" whenever and wherever they feel like it and b) encourage them and/or their successors to employ the same kinds of tactics in the next war.

GUANTANAMO SUICIDES A STAIN ON AMERICAN JUSTICE
I'm surprised to see you jumping on this bandwagon, Rick, without pointing out that some of these "detainees" faked suicide attempts in order to assault their captors just last month.
Try putting this incident in its proper perspective. Not once in the course of all the hand-wringing that has taken place in the press from the opening of Camp X-Ray to the Abu Ghraib scandal did anyone offer a valid point of reference for understanding these events.
I would venture a guess that far worse things happen EVERY SINGLE DAY in American prisons, and yet we don't see the press screaming about penal reform 24/7, do we? They can only be bothered to write about this subject when it a) concerns foreign terrorists and b) can be used as a stick with which to beat the President.

The useful idiots of our time, Rick, not unlike Walter Duranty. The difference being, of course, he was the exception to the rule when he was acting as Stalin's chief Western propagandist.
Now, every so-called journalist with an axe to grind is deliberately undermining whatever it is the United States is trying to accomplish in Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. And we need look no further than the MSM's coverage of the NATO bombing of Serbia in '99 for proof of political bias in their coverage of American military operations.
Although our "friends" on the left tacitly refuse to acknowledge any such slant, anyone who can't see it doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground.

Perspective is the key, but don't count on the MSM to provide any. Our so-called journalists will do their damnedest to make Haditha the Mai Lai of our age for a couple of reasons. First, nothing draws mouth breathers out of the woodwork like a good scandal. Second, they hate George II and will do anything and everything to undermine the war effort, even it means further endangering the lives of American soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen.
I spent some time in Germany a few years ago and remember talking to an old man who fought in WWII. According to him, by the time the Americans and Soviets reached Germany, a lot of the soldiers were liquored up and angry - a bad combination in any army. In any case, based on what this guy told me, if we'd had the same journalists then that we have now, Hitler would have remained in power at the end of the war and we would have ended up having to fight the Nazis, the Soviets, American journalists and the Democratic party all at the same time.

Rick, what do you think they'll do with all of the hatred that's kept them going since '01? It's hard to believe they'll simply celebrate and laud their victory over opponents in the event they regain control of the federal government this fall. My guess is there's a "re-education" camp somewhere in the UP with our names written all over it...whoa, I almost sounded like one of them for a moment, didn't I?

How long before Katie Couric at CBS or some other MSM assclown trots out an "authentic" document indicating that Bush ordered the September 11 attacks? Mark my words, one of the MSM outlets in this country will publish/broadcast something to this effect before the elections this fall.
