THE CAIR WHINE

Ripper:

The fact that I'm an atheist means I could give a shit about religion. It's the culture of greivance mongering that concerns me.

And Christians aren't blowing up LA in 24: Muslims are.

DEMOCRATS SAY THE DARNDEST THINGS (PART 5,197)

Brian was unable to leave this comment due to some of the site issues I've had recently.

I've been trying to post a comment on the poll results you mentioned recently,
but get an error page. Not sure why.

Here's the response I was trying to post:

"Before everyone gets all hepped up claiming this proves libs and Dems want
America to lose, anyone stop to consider the respondents may have simply meant
they want the plan to fail TO BE IMPLEMENTED, not fail in action?

'cause if it's option #1, bear in mind the poll results show 10% of Republicans
also feel this way, with 11% not sure, for a total of 21% of Republicans not
sure they want to US to win. Independents are 19 and 17, for 36%. Are these
people really claiming 21% of Republicans and 36% of independents want the US
to lose, or just aren't sure they want the US to win?

Methinks people are seeing this poll through the ugly tilted lenses of
confirmation bias."

Minor:

This is at least the third time you have left the same link on this site.

I will allow the link to stand but please, in the future, try something original. Looking at the same leftist propaganda gets boring after a while.

WIRETAP JURISDICTION: WHERE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALL ALONG? (UPDATED)

I would agree that even before 9/11 the Administration sought to expand executive power, feeling (rightly or wrongly) that the pendulum had swung too far away in the aftermath of Watergate. I happen to think they had a point - although I hasten to add that the bull regarding fiddling with signing statements and Professor Yoo's shocking theories about a "unitary executive" have progressively eroded my support for that point of view.

But power for its own sake? If you mean a deliberate attempt to redress what they saw as an imbalance, I would say you are partly correct. But if you are implying that this was done as part of some kind of grand plan to set up an authoritarian government, I'd have to say no.

I honestly believe that Cheney and Bush believe that future Presidents will thank them. Their expansive view of executive power notwithstanding, there is no doubt that executive power had been curtailed drastically in the 25 years since Watergate - and not always to the advantage of the government or the country.

Steve:

I think you're right but let me check back to my original posts on the subject.

Also, it allowed the Bush Administration to spy on its political opponents...

There's not one scintilla of evidence for the Administration using NSA to spy on its political opponents. That's a lie.

If you're talking about the army counter terror program known as "Talon," even the ACLU has said it was harmless.

Get your facts right.

SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES

I got the bus casualties in my first recap. CTU guy who went down before the grenade went off may not be dead. I only put confirmed kills (or announced kills) in the body count.

And there were 2 other attacks along with the attack on the subway that I included.

Jennie:

The Wikpedia entry lists him as "Chief of Staff."" But you're right - he doesn't seem like he's in charge.

You are correct (I think!). I double checked my notes and its not there but I wrote it down on the fly and could have missed it.
