I reject the premise of your argument. There is, in fact, a direct parallel between the protesting and going off to war - both involve commitment, sacrifice, and the willingness to fight for your beliefs. Especially since, as we are told everyday, the US is a de facto dictatorship and evil George is setting himself up as the next Hitler.
You can't have it both ways. Either the country is in extreme danger or its not. And if it is, "writing and speaking" just ain't gonna cut it.

Violent protests? I specifically said "civil disobedience" - a huge difference.
And if I thought the US was falling into a dictatorship, violence might be the only answer. I, and many others I'm sure, would use whatever means necessary to prevent the US from such a horrible course.

Nobody wants a civil war. Nobody in Lebanon anyway.
And as I say in the article, Iran especially doesn't want the blood of any more Sunnis on their hands. It is upsetting their overall strategy to unite Sunnis and Shias against the west.
Nasrallah also doesn't want sectarian conflict. He wants the ability to veto the majority without upsetting the delicate confessional balance in the country. A Shia led or Shia dominated government would be unacceptable to the Sunnis and most Christians. And the Lebanese people, being dead set against another civil war, would unite against him if he was seen as starting one.
Neither side wants the violence and neither side can afford the violence politically. But it happened anyway and that is not a good sign.

Clearly most of the people who watched SOTU were Bush diehards. But I think the speech may have given Bush some breathing room - not much but enough. A window of six months to turn things around.
By summer, the '08 race will have begun in earnest and we'll see how things are.

You sure live in an empty universe. One person to a household? Neilson makes it 2.1 ppl per household which adds up to around 55 million ppl.
Super Bowl's get a 40 share or better - advertisers like it because 80+ million ppl are sitting in one place at the same time watching.
BTW - radio Neilson's are figured differently.

My point about Young and Vick helping to change the dynamic of how we look at black quarterbacks was poorly made. I should have added that in the past, either one of those two QB's would have entered the NFL and could have been turned into receivers or DB's.
Better example might be Culpepper or Leftwich - two serviceable pros who will never make the Hall of Fame.
