A TEPID BUT REALISTIC DEFENSE OF THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION IN THE AIG MATTER

Hot Air has preselected the portion of the March 3rd House Ways and Means Committee hearing where Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-NY) specifically mentions the upcoming payouts of over $162 million in bonuses to AIG execs in comments/questions with Tim Geithner.

It begs the question .. who is minding the store ?

IS AIG BLACKMAILING THE GOVERNMENT OVER BONUSES?

Keeping the traders who created this pyramid of bad paper in place may be our only shot at unraveling their complex transactions without bringing the whole system down around our ears.

Isn't this the exact same situation that the CIA faced after 9/11. The guys who missed the "big one" were the only folks who could stop the "next one."

The truth of it all can be seen at Treasury.

Count the empty desks.

These Wall Street guys are used to a bigger take-home than the federal government gives Senators and Presidents.

The "strings of the TARP" are like a plague .. with good help running to the next financial institution at the first sign of a threat of a smaller paycheck.

Frankly, who can blame them .. it's part of the market.

Disagreements between the European Union and the US over how to combat the global recession widened on Tuesday as EU governments made clear they had little appetite for piling up more debt to fight the collapse in output and jobs.
Finance ministers from the 27-nation bloc insisted in Brussels that it was doing enough to support world demand and did not need at present to adopt another fiscal stimulus plan, as Washington is urging.

They are already talking about another "stimulus" because the previous "stimulus" was so ill-conceived and poorly targeted to actually improve the economic situation on the ground.

THE DEATH OF HEROES

The most disheartening aspect of "24" is that life doesn't seem to exactly follow art.

Take for instance all those "palace coups" that occur on "24", this season included.

IT'S BECAUSE I LOVE YOU

A special congratulations for declaring yourself part of the vocal "Silent Majority" .. and yes that is an oxymoron.

Once you get over your self pity .. a self pity that any liberal "victim" would be proud of .. you can get off your high horse of righteous indignation.

EXPLOITING TAXPAYER RAGE NOT THE WAY BACK FOR GOP

About that "rage" thing ..

Currently, takers of TARP money have to surrender bonds to the federal government, in effect giving partial ownership to the federal government of their business.

Will those who receive help with their mortgages be surrendering any part of the ownership of their homes to the federal government ?

THE SANTELLI RANT: A RED BULL RUSH

The "New Era of Responsibility" has been reduced to this.

THEY JUST CAN'T HELP THEMSELVES

What is illegal is 'identity theft'

Marvin Hoffman is listed in campaign finance records as one of the many lobbyists with the powerful PMA Group donating money to lawmakers. But Hoffman is a soon-to-retire information technology manager in Marina del Rey, Calif., who has never heard of the Arlington lobbying firm or the Indiana congressman to whom he supposedly gave $2,000.

"It's alarming that someone is stealing my identity somewhere," Hoffman, 75, said in an interview. "I've never heard of this company."

This obviously would be illegal for PMA Group to do, but what isn't know yet, is whether any of the targets of PMA Group knew this was going on.
