Don't confuse the case of Helen Thomas with this situation. Helen was a reporter for UPI for decades, but when the Moonies bought UPI, she fled. This changed her status for wire reporter for UPI to simple columist. The White House has a long tradition of giving wire reporters the first and last question (or something like that) so Helen's status change affected the likelihood she would be called upon for a question.

On April 11, 2003, just four days after they tried to hijack a ferry boat out of Havana, a kangaroo court controlled by Castro sentenced Jorge Luis Martinez Isaac, Lorenzo Enrique Copello Castillo and Barbaro Leon Sevilla to death. Then Castro, with blood on his hands, had the gall to announce to the world that Jorge, Lorenzo and Barbaro had been allowed "an exhaustive appeals process."
By Castro's legal standards, these detainees would have been dead within the week of their capture.

When you have 3000 people killed in related activity, you get a lot of widows and widowers. Out of this population there is a real mixture, so some will probably match up to Ann Coulter characterization, but a larger fraction probably will not.
From 9/11 on, we have had some that thought their $1,000,000.00+ pay outs by the government were too small and demanded more, much to the distraction of people of empathy across the nation.
The 9/11 families are much like the British royal family .. they didn't ask to be put into their position and you want to like them, but they keep finding ways to push your nose in the dirt, so a little blow back should be expected.

Let's not forget a legal form of fraud .. lying to pollsters.
I personally advocate this whenever possible. I mean tell them you're undecided, like those clowns who asked questions at the one debate in 2004. If you feel really naughty, tell them you're voting for the other guy.
Count very voter, once.
