MURTHA: OLD SOLDIERS SHOULD JUST FADE AWAY

Rick,

Murtha was not a high ranking officer in the Viet Nam War. I believe he was a Captain in Military Intelligence. He rose to Colonel during a long time in the reserves, but was never what you'd call a regular army senior line or staff officer.

I bring this up for two reasons. First, his military experience is not particularly relevant to competence in policy or strategy matters. Second, he has clearly demonstrated this with his recent inconsistent and sometimes incoherent remarks.

Thank you, COL Murtha USAR for your long service in the reserves and especially for your service in that frightening war long ago. But no thanks to you for your shameless emulation of Cindy Sheehan as you destroy any credibility you once had on military issues.

AHMADINEJAD AND HIS LIBERAL TALKING POINTS

for anyone with half a brain to see

I wouldn't go throwing around terms like that if I was you Sunny Jim, given the lack of metal horsepower evident in, oh, anywhere the US administration has set foot in the last 6 years.

Or is the USA's abject failure in Iraq et al the fault of someone else besides republicans?

CIA VS. THE WHITE HOUSE: TY COBB AIN'T NO BENCHWARMER

why does little ole whistleblower Mary McCarthy rate such heavy Democratic party artillery?

Just guessing, but maybe it's because that Democrats believe that hauling people off to gulags is immoral.

I know that conservatives have this real bad history of moral relativism, so maybe you just can't understand it

SHOULD'VE FIRED RUMSFELD - AND THE GENERALS - LONG AGO

I think your Civil War analogy is stretched. The president, war secretary, quartermaster, and general officer corps would have turned over several times during the war's first year if performance had been evaluated objectively.

History clearly shows that terrible mistakes are part of any sizeable war, and will show that the the current conflict (Iraq, not Afghanistan--a brilliant success forgotten in the search for failures) is being fought for great stakes with mistakes borne of human limitations not endemic incompetence.

Who would you rather have running the war--Tommy Franks or a craven committee of the impotent 535? Ultimately the Civil War was won because the right General was working for the right President. Like it or not, war is and has always been an executive enterprise. Supporting your favorite candidate for President is the best way to have an impact.

BEN DOMENECH MUST RESIGN

No excuse for plagiarism, which is worse than a politicician committing fraud. His employment and reputation should be terminated. As a Republican, he does not have the Democrat option of remaining prominent and a leader in the bad hair wing of the party.

THE GANG THAT COULDN'T SHOOT STRAIGHT

Interesting possibility: I read but cannot verify that it was reported on a local TV newscast that the incident was immediately reported by the Secret Service to the local police. If so, this would argue strongly against a conspiracy of secrecy conspiracy.

In any event, even though the shooter is a high public official and the shootee a mere Republican megamillionaire attorney, this is America and we all have equal rights. If Whittington did not want this broadcast immediately with all fanfare, his wishes should have carried the day.

"And please don’t insult my intelligence by trying to make any other excuse than it was politically expedient to withhold the information."

As noted above, maybe the accident victim and his family did not want this publicized immediately. Whch, by the way, is not an excuse but rather just another logical possibility.

Rick, I love your "24" commentary--but you do seem more paranoid during the viewing season.

THIS TIME, IT'S PERSONAL

Agreed that Spencer is probably the CTU mole. He is entirely too insincere and manipulative for a Geek.

HOW MSNBC'S CRAIG CRAWFORD SAVED MY DAY

Keith Olbermann and Craig Crawford will be starring in the sequel to Brokeback Mountain, to be called "Two Monicas Minus the Smarts". These clowns truly suck.

DID BUSH TAKE THE EASY WAY OUT ON DOMESTIC SPYING?

Fact is, it is the president's prerogative to determine what is "necessary" in this situation. This can be argued based on the meaning of Article II Section 1, precedents dating back 200+ years, and current reasoning offered by many top scholars (including liberals). Now some may choose to argue the opposite point of view. Fine. This would be a test of Executive vs. Congressional power. IMO, in this instance, the only "impeachment" will come when the public comes to understand the willingness of democrat leadership and the NYT to sacrifice national security for political gain. Won't happen.
