Noonan is indeed the elitist. The interesting conflict now is that Conservatives used to be considered the elite party of wealth and privilege. Now that title is firmly in the Democrat's corner. 14 of the top 25 wealthiest Congressional districts are now in Democrat control. Some, like Jared Polis of the Colorado 2nd (Boulder and most of ski country where only the most wealthy among us can afford to live) are of the fairly hard-left variety.
So the changing of the guard from Noonan's intellectual conservatism to emotionally based conservatism - as espoused by Limbaugh and others in the few corners of media where conservatives can survive - is part of the big sweeping change in conservative thought.
Conservativism gone mainstream is the real issue.

If holding up Reagan philosophy as a fossil from the conservative age is useful, then let's take a look at Obama's warmed over Marxist world and economic view. Progressives successfully repackaged their brand of socialism under a new banner. It is at its core however, the same old barnyard dung - Socialism.
As Maggie Thatcher once said, the problem with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money. Obama has achieved this in just over 100 days.

US DECLARES HEALTH EMERGENCY WHILE OBAMA GOLFS
Obama was actually trafficking the virus after his Mexico City visit. We can only hope that he passed this along to Hugo Chavez and Danny Ortega.
Chavez' public health system would be sure to help though, and would serve as a guiding light to all civilized nations providing universal health care.

As they discovered in Oregon.. tax policy does in fact impact behavior. Taxing gasoline, encouraging use of hybrid cars and encouraging use of mass transit drove revenues from gas taxes down - leaving Oregon lefties looking for another way to get their people's money. Now they are looking at a 'mileage tax' to keep the dollars coming in.
Wonder what Obama will do here. He has to find another vice to tax. Perhaps he can tax use of the word 'inherited.'
