WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

I spent 15-years in the news business. I'll bet that the possibility of harm to US interests never entered the heads of the folks at ABC. They were only interested in pushing an interest grabbing story that no one else had. Remember that the only agenda news people have is building their own personal resumes.

"24" SPECULATION FEST AND DEAD POOL

I've been worried about Chloe since the first episode this year when I saw that Mary Lynn's name had moved to second place in the credits. As someone with Asperger's Syndrome, Chloe is my all time favorite TV character. While you goobers frequently laughed at her, I found her refreshingly normal. Like all NTs, the writers have tried to cure her. I'm afraid that they will now kill her.

SECRETS AND LIES

We first saw Jack and Josh together early in the day at Marilyn's home. Jack, when he saw Josh, looked sheepish and wouldn't make eye contact. That's when the rumors about Josh's paternity began.

The cougar was in day 2.

24 'TILL "24"

I saw a promo over the weekend - it showed Josh running along a catwalk, apparently inside a structure and above a deep hole of some sort. The video cut to Jack running along with a gun. Are we about to have a "Josh, I am your father" moment from either Jack or Little Ricky?

SUFFERING BY COMPARISON

I didn't watch - I'm glad I don't have cable. I've read the reviews this morning, and come away with the impression that my prediction was correct - rather a waste of time.

Both parties seems to be filled with poseurs - the Republicans paying lip service to Reagan and the Democrats to Kennedy/Clinton - and all candidates are shifting to be on what they believe is the popular side of an issue.

I'm beginning to believe bin Laden was right - we are a bunch of weaklings with no moral compass.

CHANGING TIMES DEMAND TELLING THE TRUTH IN WARTIME

This quote from Lynch interests me - She continued, “I am still confused as to why they chose to lie and tried to make me a legend when the real heroics of my fellow soldiers that day were, in fact, legendary. People like Lori Piestewa and First Sergeant Dowdy who picked up fellow soldiers in harm’s way. Or people like Patrick Miller and Sergeant Donald Walters who actually fought until the very end.”

Could it be the Pentagon picked the pretty blonde to make a hero? I'd like to know more about what Lori Piestewa (an American Indian or whatever the PC term is this week) and First Sergeant Dowdy did.

The media is not blameless here, either. Remember that lying about Jessica Lynch helped get former New York Times reporter Jayson Blair fired.

At any rate, Lynch's testimony and her repeated references to the real heroism of her mates makes me have a good deal of respect for her.

THE POLITICS OF PERSONAL DESTRUCTION

They've spent too much time on the wrong part of the formula this year. Jack's humanity was extremely important - seeing him search for terrorists while also trying to help his family - Terri and Kim - kept Jack as a human being. Even Audrey filled this role in Season 4. Season 5 dealt with the very human Martha dealing with all all too Nixonian husband.

This year the human touches are failing. Chloe is no longer the queen of Asperger's Syndrome - she's just a dull geek. Who cares about her relationship with Morris? The Bill and Karen interaction is interesting, but it's all long distance and the characters are too far removed from the action.

They've spent too much time in the Oval Office and not enough time on the types of problems normal people have to solve.

OF SHARK JUMPING AND THE DEATH OF KINGS

I could take the rest, but the destruction of Chloe this season is maddening.

NEW CABINET LEVEL DEPARTMENTS CONTEMPLATED BY DEMS

Those peace department ideas sound nice, and the goals are certainly admirable, but just where in the Constitution have we given the federal government the authority to do any of that stuff?

AL GORE: ORACLE? OR BUNKO ARTIST?

I took Gore's carbon footprint test. I entered in my car, the normal amount of driving for an average American (according to the information contained in the test - IIRC, 12,000 miles) and added $25/month for electricity. Zero for natural gas - zero air miles - zero anything else. I came out as being above the average carbon footprint. The test must be rigged towards folks who live in big cities with mass transit - or folks who walk, and thus don't have to enter anything into the test. Even the slightest activity by those of use who live in mainstream America puts us over the "average."
