You can tell how damaging Kerry's "joke" was to the Libs election hopes by seeing how upset & defensive they reflexively became. They're spinning like an out of control top.

I haven't heard anyone, right or left, that wants to rehabilitate Gitmo prisoners. Most I hear want to try and appropriately incarcerate the guilty ones and free the innocent ones. You have a big problem with that? I mean, you are a "law and order" kind of guy, aren't you?

And I'm sorry you and Hitler think democracy is weak. Yes, compared to a totalitarian society it certainly is. Most of us want it that way. Perhaps you should move to a stronger, more macho country such as Cuba, Iran, or some petty dictatorship in sub-saharan Africa. In those countries we wouldn't be having this pantywaist discussion about whether these are POW's (geneva convention applies) or criminal prisoners (US legal system applies). They would have been garroted or had a bullet to the back of the head long ago.

The "moonbats" are going into hysterics because no one else seems to care and someone has to. Where are the libertarians? Where are the voices of the small government conservatives? You say "we don't know" several times and, to some extent that's ok as there's lots of things I don't know and don't need to. BUT there also is no oversight or accountability and "We don't know + No one ever has to justify it" is a serious problem in a free society with constitutional protections.

This reminds me of a radio talk show I heard not long after 9/11. The conservative host had a local Arab Muslim on to give counterpoint to the anger we all felt against the Jihadist murderers. The guy was referencing his brother as an example of Arab success, citing the fact he was a surgeon at a big city hospital. Of course he was overlooking the fact that modern medicine is an direct result of the purely Western phenomenon of the Enlightenment.
In much the same way, I'm sure Jensen wrote his little screed on an Apple laptop while talking on his cell phone, drinking a Starbucks, after driving to campus in his Honda, Toyota, or Saturn--all products of the free-market capitalism he so despises.
The real question is what is the internal mechanism that is so powerful that it allows the Jensons of the world to look past the Everest of evidence piled up in front of their noses.
