NANCY PELOSI, PEACEMAKER OR KLUTZ?

Rick,

Ms Peolsi's actions were neither improper or unethical. It appears you were savoring this opportunity to tear her down. The problem is that none of what was written by WaPo or the WSJ was accurate. In fact, it looks like a garden variety hit job. Your own Chicago Tribune shot down the articles in question about her conduct there.

You are a fair person in general. Will you be offering any retractions or do you stand by your words because I am missing something?

AL GORE: ORACLE? OR BUNKO ARTIST?

I saw the video on Boxer and sorry, but I disagree. Inhoff was not letting Gore answer his questions and, in fact, was asking loaded questions regarding his electricity usage. If he was looking to ask about the material Gore presented and tackle its accuracy, I would be more sympathetic. But Inhoff wasn't interested in that. He was trying to make political points about his lifestyle versus the issue he was raising.

Let's say that, worst case scenario, Al is not careful with the amount of CO2 he consumes. Does that, in any way, alter his argument one bit? It would only show he is as guilty as everyone. It does not change the facts.

Put it this way, you can be a cigarette smoker and still make a presentation on the hazards of smoking. Inhoff, if he were making the argument, would be lecturing the cigarette smoker that, if he believes that it is so harmful, why doesn't he pledge not to smoke?

I do not respect people who make superfluous arguments like this just to muddy the waters.

As for Boxer, she was enforcing the rules that were set up. I saw nothing in her actions that warranted the charge of "arrogance". She is chairman and told Inhoff she would grant time as necessary. Inhoff was interupting Gore however and so she cut him off.

PLAME STILL LEAVES US WONDERING

Criticising the Democrats for the whole "Plame affair" would carry more weight were it not for the obvious fact that GWB promised to get to the bottom of who leaked her information. Not only has he failed to do so, but it is clear why he never bothered. The issue that she was "not covert" as is repeated over and over was countered by her personally under oath in front of the Senate. Tell me when Karl rove and Scooter Libby apeared in front of the Senate, helping to get to the bottom of the leaker and protected the CIA covert operation protocol and then, only then, perhaps, your criticism of the Dems regarding undermining the CIA will carry some weight. You can't have it both ways.

BACHMANN OVERDRIVE: IMAGINATION RUN WILD

Michelle Bachman has made a big impression since she has taken office and it has not been a good one for the most part. When heavily conservative friends of mine start to deny any knowledge of her and refuse to admit any affiliation with her, she may be in trouble getting a 2nd term.

MAKING THE WORLD SAFE FOR BIGOTS

Seems that Christians are the last acceptable group to bash.

Actually, no. The last acceptable group are gays - if my understanding of the latest acts of legislation and attempts at changing the constitution of the United States are interpreted correctly. I imagine "the Left" primarily takesk issue with who the "spokesman" was that got on his soapbox to decry the bigotry of these bloggers against Catholics. If even half of what I read about him is true, and I personally know nothing about him, he is the last person on God's Green Earth to lecture on the subject of bigotry and cruel invectives.

Suppose Edwards did remove these people because of his raising the issue. Then Edwards basically makes this guy a source for the press every time something like this arises again. Personally, I think Edwards did the right thing by not granting Donahoe any power or say in how he conducts his campaign. Donahoe does not act in Edward's interest and, furthermore, is not interested in the "greater good" of how candidates handle themselves. He wants to tear down anyone who is not a theological Republican. No ifs, ands or buts.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON MARCOTTE

She’s just one more clueless lefty.

I find it ironic that you are bemoaning the lack of civil discourse and, at the same time, letting loose with comments ilke this. You certainly may disapprove of this blogger's posts and are right to freely criticize that person individually. But you hurt your own position about the need for civility and by extension, will never get any civil discourse when you paint "the other side" with a broad brush like this. The only people you will hear from under these circumstances are the ones who enjoy swimming in the mud.

Incidentally, cluelessness does not recognize a wing, right or left. There is an endless supply of people on both sides whose minds are made up and don't like to be confused with facts. They also have blogs and prove their lack of reflective thought accordingly (and daily).

You might try taking your lead from another blogger who seems to strike a good balance. He is at vividair.blogspot.com
Not sure if you know much about him but check him out.

MY BELOVEDS: BOUND FOR GLORY (UPDATED)

From this Vikings fan, I think it is great that the Bears won. We have a swarm of Packer fans that live around here and nothing quiets them nore than having Chicago head to the Super bowl.

Best of luck to your team!

DOING SOMETHING RIGHT: THE SOMALI RAID

I am not sure who you were quoting that clucked about the intervention in Somalia, however, it was carried out in seemingly well run efficiency. I cannot find (not that I was looking for) any fault in the actions carried out. If the ICU threatened Ethiopia, they were begging for war. And if there were al Qaeda operatives starting trouble between Kenya and Ethiopia, they were begging to get taken out. I am not as sure as you are that people were cheering the coming of the Ethiopian army because they felt they at least had some security which they do not now. However, the ICU did have this war won and then they shot their mouth off. They deserved to get overrun after that. What was Ethiopia supposed to do? Double the guard at their border, twiddle their thumbs and wait while the ICU tightened its grip and grew stronger? Not hardly.

NOT VERY BELOVED

Truth be known, it doesn’t cost one thin dime to change an attitude.

Chip

Technically, that is correct. Realistically, everyone has mental baggage (skeletons in the closet) they have to deal with and that has nothing to do with whether you are rich or not. I am not making apologies for this player, just commenting on the generalization.

By the way my team, the Vikings, are going down in flames this year so I am going start cheering on Chicago to go all the way backing the Central in the playoffs. Its time our division took it all and the Bears look great.

THE ISG REPORT: NOT EXACTLY "BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS"

Rick, I don't often agree with you politically but I do respect that you are very willing to cry foul when the circumstances demand it. Admittedly, more so than am I. On Bush ignoring the ISG you are exactly right. Although, to me, the reason is that GWB is trying to just run the clock out on his presidency. He will likely only give lip service to this report at best. His ultimate plan simply is, I fear, to kick the can down the road and leave it for another president to clean the whole mess up. The report from what little I have read does nothing substantial when something very substantial is needed.
