LET'S NOT SCREW UP THIS DEFECTION (MAJOR UPDATE)

I'll believe this guy defected when he appears in public and announces it.

CPAC REVEALS CONSERVATIVE FRACTURES

Great post. I was raised a Republican in the 1950's and voted that way up until about 1996 when disgust with the Social Conservatives finally drove me from the party (I'm now registered as a Libertarian). Picking up former Dixiecrats may have helped elect more Republicans in the 70's & 80's but IMO it gutted the Party. Remember when we used to be for small government, fical responsibility and a foreign policy that was mildly isolationist?

THE UNBEARABLE INVISIBILITY OF COMMON DECENCY

It seems to be a common tactic on both sides to take a couple of comments from the fringe and extrapolate from them "this is the way the Left (Right) feels about..." (take your pick).
While I have no use for Cheney, I think the jokes (and that's what most of them are) are funny yet I would take no joy if he were to be killed.
We need to get a grip.

ISRAEL'S DILEMMA OVER IRAN

An Israeli attack on Iran would probably make the Israelis feel better in the short run, but it would undoubtably give the Iranians an excuse to withdraw from the NPT and redouble their efforts to get nukes.

GREENER PASTURES FOR LIEBERMAN?

Don't moan the loss of the 'interventionist' Democrats; they just switched parties and now are known as 'Neo-Cons'.

POLLSTERS FINALLY STARTING TO ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS ON IRAQ

I think the much ballyhooed 'surge' is reflected in these polls. People are relieved we finally abandoned 'stay the course' which obviously wasn't working. It'll be interesting to see what, if anything changes in the Fall.

A ROCK, A HARD PLACE, AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA

"The left is in a comfort zone when blaming Bush and I daresay they will continue to do so long after his term of office is over."

Kinda like that Clinton fella, huh?

PROFILES IN IMMORAL COWARDICE

I'd argue that it's the right wing that's responsible for Democratic 'dithering' here. Faux conservatives who've supported this war are looking for someone to pin the blame on. The Dems don't want to fall in the trap.
Once the Right wing admits the war is not winnable by any definition it will pave the way for a truly bipartisan solution.

THEY JUST CAN'T HELP THEMSELVES

"The press was extremely careful not to report these demonstrations"
The right wing's paranoid view of the media reminds me of another character from that movie: General Ripper (played by George C. Scott).
That is, by the way one of my favorite movies.

WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT IRAN?

Pretty good article. The 'nuke Tehran' crowd will take you to task but I believe you've explored the consequences of attacking them.
