HOW DUMB ARE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE?

RE:..can’t we agree that it’s a problem that most Americans aren’t even aware of the controversy?"

Last time I checked, "most Americans" still thought the 911 hijackers were Iraqi, and too many believe owning an AM radio keeps them "informed" so color me surprised!

My response to #8 found above is a textbook example of what often happens when "Klein and his ilk"(as referred to in #1) are not doing the reporting. Truth is becoming subjective and context is everything. Dee

Re...#8
"The munitions addressed in the report were produced in the 1980s, Maples said. Badly corroded, they could not currently be used as originally intended," DOD (6/29/2008).
There was ample evidence that the weapons grade materials existed 20 years before their discovery...but they were little more than useless artifacts by the time they were found.

WHAT'S ALL THE HUB-BUB ABOUT CAMPAIGN FINANCE?

The idea that money equals speech is one that I personally find laughable...that said, trying to regulate contributions to campaigns is like trying to get cats to walk in a straight line, so why bother. Additionally, when all is said and done, this will most likely help/hurt both Rep & Dem equally. In the end it would appear to be much ado about nothing. Dee

NEW BANKING REGS A BOON FOR MAIN STREET

I don't know about trying to take over the auto and banking industries, but we have begun the long walk back from 30 years of mindless deregulation in the banking and financial industry...and the next thing should be the reversal of the disasterous trade and tax policies that have almost completely destroyed American industry and all of the jobs that went with it. #5:"simple economics" indeed...
You may want to look at:
The Depository Institutions Deregulation and Monetary Control Act of 1980, signed into law by Carter.
The Depository Institutions Act of 1982, signed into law by Reagan.
In 1988, the Basel Accord, Reagan.
U.S. Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) of 1989, and the exemption of swaps and derivatives from all regulation.
(...a Phil and Wendy Gramm production). Mrs. Gramm later went on to a seat on the Enron Corp. board as a member of its audit committee.
1998, Glass-Steagall and the Bank Holding Company Act of 1956 were scrapped by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act. (Travelers purchase of Citibank played a role here).
Then in 2004, the SEC ruling on investment banks and determination of net capital.
You could also look into the deregulation of the S&L's in the late 70's and 1980's, the S&L failures of the 80's, Enron, and start adding up what all of this deregulation has cost the American taxpayers in the last 30 years. It's a little complicated, but it's all right there...draw your own conclusions. Dee

SCOTT BROWN BITES THE HEADS OFF LITTLE CHILDREN AND DRINKS THEIR BLOOD

I am continually fascinated by the rights claim that they don't want government coming between a patient and a doctor, unless, of course the patient has been raped, is pregnant, or is terminally ill. Way to be consistent! Dee

COULD WE WIN IF WE HAD TO FIGHT WORLD WAR II TODAY?

Boy, what are the odds? A conversation about the "Greatest Generation", WW11, and the biggest threat to freedom our planet has ever known...and we have some who wish to engage in petty, political squabbling over which side of the contemporary ideological spectrum is loyal or treasonous. I have faith that given as grave a threat as our forefathers faced in the 1940s, a large majority of our people would rise up and prevail...we would just have to step over some knuckleheads to get it done! PALIN AND HER SUPPORTERS IN A TIME WARP

Palin will not be a factor in '12. She will have her book tour and do her turn as the victim of the liberals, the media, or whatever other goblins she conjures up...and then like the hula hoop and the pet rock before her, she will be gone. It will then fall to the grown-ups to deal with the grown-up problems that face our nation.

IS THERE ANY WAY SARAH PALIN CAN RECOVER?

The only consideration that is valid is whether or not she can win. If liberals have fallen into the trap of underestimating Palin, then it is equally true that conservatives have underestimated Obama. Regardless of how much you dislike the man and/or his politics...is there anyone who honestly thinks Palin could beat Obama? If conservatives hope to regain the White House in 2012, they had better put up their best candidate...and I don't think most of the electorate sees Palin as that candidate. Dee
