THE STIMULUS SHOULD GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD

Rick,

I am of the opinion that each and every one of the economists that didn't have a clue, as far as seeing this thing coming, have ZERO credibility about the cause and recovery. Therefore, the 'Chicken Little' argument from these same economists holds about as much water as a sieve.

Something needs to be done, but NOT in such a rush to possible oblivion and especially NOT without more input from the other side. This "stimulus bill" appears to be a very short on the stated immediate help stimulus and long on special interest payback.

I WILL MISS THE LEFT'S BUSH DERANGEMENT

jambrowski,

BHO has already begun to caveat his administration and the time line for prosperity. The Obama administration, and the MSM will still be able to blame the Bushies for the economy, but it will only hold water for about 6 months. After then, it will belong to team Obama and the cheerleaders in the media won't be able to blame Bush .

I've been wondering what will Olberman due once he can't go into a Bush outrage? Maybe he'll just fade away into the ether.

HAIL AND FAREWELL

Rick,

I am sure that as you have stimulated me, and I'm sure others, to exercise our brains through your blogging, we will find you no matter where you go.

Good fortune in 2009 and beyond.

THE GOP BAILOUT CONUNDRUM

Belad: Where am I going wrong here?

It looks like you’re assuming that there are only 350 taxpaying households in the US. I believe the actual number is a bit higher than that.

You are correct. My math doesn't quite cut it. I guess it won't work either. Oh, well.

Chuck,

If they don't pay off debt they will use it to buy more toys and gadgets. Thus the demand for these will drive businesses to produce more. The problem we have is the lack of money flowing in the economy. Government created jobs can't create lasting prosperity because the government can't continue to create jobs indefinitely. The private sector is where the lasting jobs are created and prosperity is created.

The republicans have a bed of their own making and they are going to have to demonstrate that they understand that they screwed up big time. They also have to demonstrate they have the will to fix the mistakes. At this point in time they have no easy out, they will be in the wilderness for awhile and they need to get a message that rings better with the American public, although the American public is not in a mode to listen right now. There is a mood in the country that wants the consequences for bad judgment and choices to be shouldered by the collective society, than where it squarely belongs. WS should have never been bailed out, where was the outrage when they were reporting multi-billion dollar profits each quarter? Sorry, I just can't get too excited because those that were supposed to be watching were, in fact, part of the problem and the problem still exists and will continue to exist until the whole house of cards comes down. That unfortunately will require a complete purge of everyone inside the beltway.

Rick,

I think that if the government wants to stimulate the economy and pass out stimulus and bailout money, it should just send a check to every taxpaying household for $1,000,000 for each taxpayer filing a 2007 tax return. At most it would $350,000,000 and it would jump-start the economy in several ares. People would pay off debt, buy new toys(cars, boats, snow mobiles,...) and ease the burden of unemployment. We, the taxpayers are in a much better position to determine how OUR MONEY should be spent.

Where am I going wrong here?

WISHING THE GAY MARRIAGE ISSUE WOULD JUST GO AWAY

Rick,

The problem is the use, by the state, of 'marriage'. If the state had chosen to use the term 'civil union' for all legal joining of people, this would not be a topic of any kind of discussion.

Let the 'church' have marriages and let the state have civil unions for the legal definition and contract.

I wholeheartedly agree. If christian sects want to marry gays in their church, none of my business. If states want to give gay couples all the rights attributed to a legal bond of matrimony and call it "civil union" ditto.

Allowing this will not be the end of western civilization. Anyone who thinks it will destroy "marriage" is an hysterical fool.

WINTER SOLSTICE MUSINGS

Rick,

I think you should sit down and talk to my wife. She can't wait for December 21, every year. To her it marks the day when every day after is longer and the sun will have the opportunity to be up longer.

Its just a matter of perspective.

Good luck.

ENOUGH WITH THE ILLINOIS BASHING ALREADY

Sunny,

Are you so tired of spitefulness because of the past 8 years of blaming everything that could go wrong in the world on Bush/Cheney?

WILL THE HARD LEFT PUSH OBAMA OVER A CLIFF?

I think BHO will have a very difficult time putting off the hard left. Remember the hard left has significant influence of congress and the senate and will be pushing to get their agenda enacted. If Obama pushes back too hard he will only infuriate the hard left and risks losing support in 2012.

Speaking of 2012, why are we already thinking of the next election? I thought the last two years of campaigning was more than sufficient, in fact I would like to see a shorter campaign season.
