The Associated Press is a cooperative owned by the outlets it serves, and these outlets are under enormous cost pressures, which necessarily impact the AP. The oulets simply cannot afford to pay anyone anymore who is more than about 20 years old (mentally, if not physically). People of this ilk are very susceptible to group-think, me-too-ism, and wishful thinking that what was true 40 years ago is true today. What military academies warn cadets about "fighting the last war."
