The poll referenced in my post was on the future. And the reason you'll never get it is because the American people could give a rat's ass who's President or who's in power. Their optimism is part of their heritage. They don't get it from goverment which is why idiot leftists like you don't understand it.

The guy I quoted, Michael Hudson is a professor at Georgetown and something of a tool. And while I agree that Bush was a huge catalyst, the fact is that there's been a lot going on underneath the radar for years there that, thanks to a happy confluence of event, have led to the "Arab Spring" you talk about in your comment.
When even a lefty Bush hater can credit Bush for something, you know the Prez is doing all right!

Was firebombing Dresden the right thing to do? You bet. It hastened the end of WWII. We're not going to fly airplanes into buildings or behead the captives. But if we can get them to tell us what they know by treating their holy book the way they treat ours, then by God lets do it.

I think your comparison of a common criminal with the Shah stretches your point quite a bit. And I certainly think we should stay in Iraq until the job is done.
Having said that, Ronald Reagan abandoned Marcos of the Philipines when it becamse clear he was a liability to our national interest. Jimmy Carter abandoned the Shah even though he was vital to our national interest.
I trust you see the difference.
