LOVE IS NEVER ENOUGH

taking marwan into next year would be a good move (even though i will hate not seeing jack nail him)---it reminds me of jason bourne and his nemesis, carlos the jackal, the difference being that jack gets marwan in the end. i too will be disappointed it they don't tie up the loose ends. the writing has been so strong i would hate to see it end in a fizzle. they still have to deal with the chinese. (marwan walked to the suv without a limp. hadn't jack plugged him in the leg??) i have appreciated the story going into relationships and making them meaningful. so many times stories on film make them superficial/sexual/gratuitous. i get tired of it and find them boresome. these relationships also help mete out the message that war is about cost at so many levels and a reminder to us all about how important it is to take care with the people important to us. it is part of what drives jack and tony and michelle and palmer and novik (who not only respects palmer, but cares for him, too) to do what is right and at any cost, finding the strength and courage to do so in their loving. isn't that the bottom line for us all, or shouldn't it be? it's what keeps us human. it's the difference between the marwans and the jacks and palmers. this story is about good vs. evil, but it's also about love vs. hate and the consequences of which one you choose to rule in your heart.

CAPTURED!

(i'll try again. my comments didn't post.)

i'd forgotten about the mole, though i thought they got her early on. if it's michelle, she makes nina look like an amateur and i seriously wonder about her motives. tony was only brought back because of jack so revenge against tony? would something in seattle have turned her?

outside of curtis and tony, it would make the mole white and american. motives? money? (the great american reason.) ethnic connections and being deeply imbedded as a sleeper? a character flaw--someone who's basically a good person but just can't help themselves?

i've never been comfortable with curtis (although being PC means pulling the race card.) he could've broken richard because richard is a loser and we knew he was lying about something. curtis has been on the missions to get marwan and marwan has always managed to get away. with help???

what kind of authority and access would the chinese really have? demanding hourlies? and getting them? didn't marwan have a phone call a couple of episodes ago where he seemed to be answering to someone above him? could it have been the chinese? or maybe, the mole is embedded very high up in the american government.

edgar could be the one who blows the missile out of the sky. he missed the chance at the prisoner in ctu. it would give him payback for the loss of his mother. jack is the hero so they might still give him ultimate job of saving the millions to him, but he will be exacting his revenge on marwan, as will be seen when he takes that smug look off of his evil face. jack will also be dealing with the mole while edgar does his thing.

chloe and edgar? chloe has a crush on jack.
tony should be coming significantly back into the fray with more heroics. maybe he'll find the mole. i'll be disappointed if it is michelle. we did single white female with nina, but it would be a curveball to do it again.

i have thoroughly enjoyed the clinton face-slapping. they've made that pretty clear and he deserves it. 2008? buyer beware.

they successfully sidetracked me on marwan's access to the football codes. that brings me back to who marwan has been answering to on the phone. who would have access to the access codes??

we're near the end (unhappily) and we have more questions and possibilities than ever. thanks for the blogging, this has been a great season, and the blogging helps make it fun!

i'd forgotten about the mole. if it's michelle she makes nina look like an amateur. i hope it's not her, but i can see now that it might be. and i thought they got the mole earlier in the story, the gal that seduced curtis. hum. . . i wonder what michelle's motives would be. being angry with tony wouldn't cut it and he was out of ctu until jack brought him in. ethnic connection? something happened in seattle? bill problems?
it would seem that the mole is white, except for curtis, and american. would the point be that terrorists can/will imbed themselves as sleepers in even the highest levels of government? or will it just be about someone who is motivated by revenge, circumstances that make a person want a lot of money, or someone with a major character flaw, who, despite being mostly a good person, can['t help themselves. i'll be disappointed if the mole is an american. i was never convinced that paul was so innocent. so this will be a long week and next week will be even longer.

i was wondering how much authority the chinese would have. demanding hourlies on jack? and are they more involved in the whole thing? didn't marwan have a phone call with someone who may have been above him a couple of shows ago?

i'm going to love the scene where jack gets to wipe that smug and evil look off of marwan's face, as only jack bauer can do.

curtis has always bothered me. he's not a strong character and he let richard go when he knew richard was lying. richard is a wimp and a reprobate and could've been broken. i'm surprised he stood up under the torture he did get. but if curtis is the mole that would be politically incorrect and bring out the race card.

maybe edgar will get to blow the missile as payback for his mom. he didn't get to the prisoner before and was denied his revenge. chloe already got to blast somebody so maybe it's edgar's turn, but jack is the hero, so it may be him who saves the millions.

this has been so fun, and again, thanks for the blogging!!!!

THE CHINESE GAMBIT

another thought that i posted at ABpundits, too: jack yells, "we had him!! we had him!!" how many times did clinton have bin laden cornered and let him get away because he is unable to divorce himself from the politics which, outside of his sexual appetite, he bases his every move?

and about replacing kiefer? he has to be exhausted, but i'm VERY skeptical about anyone being able to move in to carry the show as he does. x-files wasn't x-files without mulder; cookie monster isn't cookie monster without facefulls of cookies; bugs bunny ain't bugs bunny without mel blanc. . . some things just shouldn't be messed with. there's good reason to put jack in the amnesia state with the chinese after him. then he could figure out that the government is after him too while his memory comes back while saving the world once again. the 24 writers have continued to fool us and keep it fresh and i'm hoping they will take us on a rollercoaster ride to a new place, but, with jack bauer. :-}

and matt damon ain't no jason bourne. lousy casting.

p.s.

and lest we forget, bill clinton helped the chinese out quite a bit with his generous contributions??????

the last scene was so very powerful. it showed us that these professionals, who have stuck with their integrity and sense of honor in the toughest of decisions, have also had to pay personal costs. they have had to place their lives, integrity, and those they love on the line. even jack was nearly broken by the decision he had to make that affected people he loved and cared about in his life. i also was amazed at palmer, a man of character committed to honesty, who had to lie to the chinese. then there's tony, continuing to redeem himself, taking the abuse of bill, who lost his head. i'm not thinking they'll kill tony off, but maybe they will, making himthe example of ultimate sacrifice. he did what was wrong for the right reasons to save michelle; he paid a heavy price and let himself fall into a sorry state; he rose to the challenge and found himself by saving jack; his redemption continued as he was brought back into the fold and given leadership in ctu; more redemption with michelle; falls back out of grace by helping jack again. he's been treated unjustly again via bill. it's cost him all the way around. i don't know, they owe him too much to kill him off, hmmmmm. . . this has been an incredible ride, great writing and storytelling. it hasn't pussyfooted around serious issues. it's shown us that maybe the good guys won't always win but they'll die trying, that there are things worth sacrificing ourselves for, that courage and integrity will always come through for us in the end, that the least likely characters will be our heroes while the perceived great ones will fail us, that in 4 weeks i will begin wondering what jack bauer will be up to next fall (maybe doing a jason bourne-identity kind of thing [the book, not the movie]) and whether the writers will be able to pull it off again.

WHEN LEADERSHIP MATTERS

last night's show confirmed again that i don't want hillary clinton in the white house. if it's about character and doing the right thing, she doesn't understand the meaning of the words. neither does her husband who would undoubtedly be talking in one ear the whole time. that's a terrifying picture in my mind.

CHLOE--WHAT A WOMAAAN!!!!

TORTURE REVISTED

i knew it i knew it i knew it! they are bringing 'the good president'palmer back into the picture---yes! he was such a popular character and, novak still has some redeemin' to do. i thought one of the best moments was
when 'the bad president' had 2 choices: he could do what was right at any cost, or, he could do what was best for his career/legacy. he went for the legacy. so i'm thinkin'---if hillary was ever in circumstances requiring that kind of choice, which would she
choose? duh! at her core she's political and self-serving. i would never trust her to do the right thing for the right reasons in the long haul. another thought: it's quite often said that people don't 'vote for vice presidents.' this is a reminder that we should be much more mindful of who that person
is. the vp has had to stand up and take over more than once in our history. 2 presidents have been assasinated and others have had serious attempts. these times seem particularly ripe for those measures. i pray for bush' s safety quite regularly.

i thought the show made quite the statement last night about the (liberal?)judge who wouldn't approve the court order because he thought that prado had no record so 'it was outside of the patriot act.' (i think edgar should take a weiss and the judge for a long lunch break and come back alone.) weiss had aclu written all over him and his conviction showed when he didn't even blink at jack's reasoning or parting comment. i have noticed that jack. the 'good' presidents, and ctu have never done anything they didn't have to to deal with the crisis. they don't enjoy what they have to do to people, but they know the evil and ruthlessness they are up against. despite the body count, they know what they have to do and try to keep it minimal. they aren't crazed. i would hope that our intelligence and military are as professional and honorably motivated as 24's good guys. i have wondered at the absence of secdef. he should've been in the loop, even in the office of the prez last night. he should've been there to back novak, but the prez would've been outnumbered when it came to making his weasely self-serving political choice and the point might have been lost. if this was bush or cheney, condi would've been there. i was also glad that the story went to other characters that we like and who round out the story so that it isn't all jack all the time. after it was all over i had this horrible thought: what if there are no plans for a 'next season' and they kill jack this season???? horrors! i keep thinking that they have to find jack his 'woman of kindred spirit' so maybe they'll do that next time. i love a good story and they are doing a pretty good job this time. i was concerned about the show taking a liberal bias, but am so glad it hasn't. so far kiefer is sticking his nose out quite a bit. good for him!

DoD CONNECTION CONFIRMED

what about the guy who told novak that the vp had been working "his whole life for this"? seems like someone is involved in getting the vp into the presidency. production point: the guy playing the vp usually plays the role
of a weasel. so does the dod dude. maybe paul's in on it afterall or audrey tapped into his business connections to get marwan the building he needed. why would audrey be in on

it? seems that an american's involvement is always about money. devane would be more likely to be in it for that or maybe for an alignment with the vp which leaves the power thing. i keep thinking they'll kill off tony but i'm not sure that would be the way to complete his redemption. i think getting michelle back will be part of it. we all want to see her swallow her pride and bad attitude and go back to him. audrey isn't jack's match. he hasn't met that woman yet. going back to the vp. i think novak or whoever wants the vp as pres because he's weak and can by manipulated. i thought some tension was back in last night episode that hadn't been there in the last 2 though i appreciated that they put in those 'down times' and used them to build that tension. i like it when it's not action all the time because it can get boresome with no meat to the story or a more sophisticated play with our emotions. they brought us down to bring us up again which makes for good storytelling. thanks rwn for the blog--i've thoroughly enjoyed it!!

WANTED: TIME MACHINE

on 'anklebiters' you commented that some are a bit disillusioned with the story this time. i am rather enjoying the fact that it's not a high body count every single episode and suspect it's like keiko said, "or it's the calm before the storm."
