"WILL NO ONE RID ME OF THIS MEDDLESOME TERRORIST?"

They say you should never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by incompetence. Otherwise, I might suspect that Bush/Cheney don't WANT to kill Osama, because they need a handy bogeyman to scare us into giving them more and more unchecked power. Not to mention the fact that it might annoy some of the Bush family's good friends and business associates in Saudi Arabia.

THE ROAD TO NOWHERE

i have some disagreement about jack's disconnect. he has known love. it is what has helped move him. it has been rooted in his core and he he has not lost faith in it despite all the things he's come up against that have tried to rip it from him. it has gotten him through difficult times and motivated him to do some of the things he had to do for his country, but, more imnportantly for the people he has shared love. love is what keeps us from savagery and i didn't see jack fall to that. he was fighting hardened souls, those with the ugliest of spirits, hateful sods. if jack has blood on his hands it's righteous.

next year: do we really believe dear old dad is dead? will jack get the well deserved time to rest his spirit (and do so with the help of audrey [and, josh?]) something to truly live for? (and it is my great hope that they don't kill him off!!!! ludlum didn't kill of jason bourne and clancy didn't kill off jack clark.) i hope bill is pulled into the story again. he is one of my favorite characters. chloe needs
to get smart-mouthed again---she was sorely missed.

this season didn't have the punch that the others did, but it was time to ease up on the shoot-em' up and do more with the drama. i was waiting to have them develop his character. hopefully next year they will find a good balance.

THE POLITICS OF PERSONAL DESTRUCTION

for all of its problems i still enjoy this story. example: jack has been a little too distracted to deal with his dad, who may or may not come back. we are dealing with only 24 hours after all. and i'm still glad that they have done more with the charaacters than just having them be blasted by jack. there's more to the situation than jack's body count. powers booth is a good choice for vp because he's icky and does icky so well. (it's hard to believe he got his start as a song and dance man on broadway.) i'm also liking that jack is a good shot! i hate it when there is a lot of shooting and no one hits anything! and i look forward to seeing how jack gets out of this one. and as far as jack's humaness, he's operating on brain stem mode having been sufferring from battle fatigue. he's just putting one foot in front of the other, disheartened even more by his realization that audrey is such a mess and his seeming disappointment that he must go on because he was denied the relief of suicide. jack's soul is weary and his realizing that audrey needs his help is what will help keep him going. for all h e's been through, he has not hardened himself to love.

FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH

Maybe you could ask him why he chose not to mention that it was not the 3 accused hurling racial insults at the dancers. If I knew that then surely he knew it, too. It was his lack of honesty that caused me to comment there. Not his opinion. As someone is always reminding us, you can have your own opinions, but you can't have your own facts.

For the record, I agree on the childishness of those who chose to respond by making fun of your last name. What maroons. ::grin::

THE SUCCESSION

logan is still his slimey self and probably out to get jack as revenge for losing his wife more than the presidency. the scripture he had highlighted tends to speak to logan's motives. itzen is one of the best at playing the sleaze, keeping his career going well. i was glad to see aaron in the previews for next week, and his being with the first lady.

i've enjoyed this season. there's more drama and human interaction and exploration of relationships than there has been shoot-em-up. it gives the story of jack bauer depth. having jack blast his way through the story every time would make it superficial and tiresome, although he is overdue for a bit of blasting away. might have to do that to get out of the hands of the russians. (i think it interesting that the writers decided to go via the russians rather than arab plots to rule the world. we'll see where it goes. AAAAAHHHH, i love monday nights!

DESCENT INTO HELL

well, rick, am so glad you're blogging 24 again this year--you make it part of the fun!! i'm glad that the character of jack is not 1-2 dimensional and i think i first suggested that he is jason bourne-ish. clark is also of the same ilk.
this year i am going to try to tape it and watch it and hour later if i can stand it. the commercials and their time consumed are just too obnoxious to tolerate. i don't have tivo, but this show makes me wish i did.

jack's depraved situation climaxed for me early on when he had to chew on his captor's neck and spit it out of his bloody dripping mouth to get away. jack will be, like huck finn, exploring what freedom really means for a person as well as for a society. to what willing or unwilling lengths would each of us be faced to go to achieve those freedoms?

like jack, we are all brought to a point of weariness of spirit at a certain time in our lives. what he said, "i don't know if i know how to do this anymore," was seriously moving.
there are times that we (even the most ordinary of people) can rise to the occasion or not. once again, even if he doesn't want to, jack chooses to do so, with that indomitable spirit that makes heroes.

CIA: "PAY NO ATTENTION TO THOSE MULLAHS BEHIND THE CURTAIN"

Everybody needs to read Horrorism by Martin Amis, available @ The Observer, UK to get some idea of what we are all in for. From some of the comments above, you all may not be concerned with his left wing slant or his tiny rant against religion, but his information of Sayyid Qutb is truly scary. Sayyid Qutb? Read it, it's long, but worth very word. You cannot talk to crazy people, period.

Talking may be all we'll be able to do. Not that anything will come of it except maybe to lead us on. Talking to the drug cartels or the crips and bloods would help too, no?

WELCOME TO THE NEW MIDDLE EAST

Wishful Thinking?
Just maybe: Olmert might have some insight into the mentality of Nasrallah when agreeing to the "Ceasefire" or is this just wishful thinging on my part?
Nasrallah speech on TV yesterday: "We will not give up our "right" to fight as long as Israeli Troops are in Lebanon"
Wording in UN Resolution: "Israel is expected to cease OFFENSIVE operations"
How can there be a ceasefire if Israel is allowed to stay in Lebanon until the wonderful, brave, unbioused and proven "keepers of the peace" return "en force" and Nasrallah continues his "resistance"? Is this some sort of sneaky, around the corner open window for Israel and Olmert has seen the possibilities? Or is it just wishful thinking from a very worried Israeli Citizen!
