FIREWORKS AT CPAC

While I more often than not disagree with you, your take on gay rights is dead on. Conservatism and gay rights should in no way be in opposition. Further, this issue absolutely has been decided among the young: they overwhelmingly support gay marriage.

I'm also pro-choice, but oddly to me, at least, youger persons are becoming overwhelming pro-life. Therefore, the position of the GOP and most conservatives on this issue is more attractive to voters now. Go figure.

So of the two most prominent social issues, the parties and ideologies are 1 for 1 in the long haul. The irony is rich.

HEY KIDS! LET'S JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS ABOUT THE AUSTIN TERRORIST!

Obviously left-wing extremists are the greatest terror threat to this nation after their fellow travelers among the Islamists. After the Obama fanatic gunned down fellow professors in Huntsville and after this guy, I imagine Homeland Securitu will start to monitor the DailyKos and Jackson-Jefferson banquets. That's what DHS does, right? I vaguely recall some sort of crackdown on conservative groups after this idiot asshole became president.

THE GREEK CRISIS EXPLAINED - SORT OF

Exactly, funny man. Greece marginally was better than Turkey is today, but marginally.

Germany has opted not to participate in the bailout now. This will be a huge economic story if the other major EU financial powers follow suit.

IN FOR A PENNY, IN FOR A POUND: MORE EYOREISM ON BROWN

Yes, I claimed I didn't want any government, Rick. Nice refutation with a distortion of what I wrote and, again, no empirical evidence to back up your past assertions that Americans want larger and larger government. I won't even address my alleged lack of conservatism because all you do these days is make a claim based on emotion and then claim to be reasonable. It is really sad and pathetic. But I understand some people cannot admit they are wrong or even see it.

You have never made any statement anywhere that would lead me to believe that you think government should be doing anything at all. And you accuse me of putting words in your mouth? Where have I ever advocated "big" government? Whenever I have said government has a role to play - no matter how small - you accuse me of advocating "big government." The obvious conclusion one can draw is that since you disagree with my belief that government has a role to play, no matter how small, that you must then believe that it has no role to play.

Does government have a role in regulating the economy? Does it have a role in education, in protecting the environment, in making sure we don't have poor people dropping dead on the street from hunger, in health care? The American people support government intervention in all of these areas and many more. Don't believe me? Try eliminating the dept of education or the EPA. You will be very unpopular, very quickly.

These are all reasonable functions of government - taken, as they are today, to unreasonable and decidedly unconservative levels. My point is that applying conservative principles to these government functions are a helluva lot better than applying liberal principles to them.

Your position would be interesting to flesh out. How can a "true" conservative believe that any of those things are the proper function of government?

No doubt the election of Brown is a terrible thing and will make conservatives go mad and get cooties. Get a grip and get over yourself. Most of us who disagree with you from time to time do so because you are wrong. Your faith-based belief that Americans want more and more big government, without any empirical evidence to support it, deserves the derision it receives. You would make a stronger case if you backed it up with evidence. To proclaim you are "reasonable" and "rational" when you spew emotion, well, speaks for itself.

Last night was a great night. You may want to ignore its significance and speculate that it will all end badly, but there is nothing to support your thesis. Sorry, but reason usually has a basis.

There is a huge difference between wanting conservative government and no government at all. Believing that government should act is not a belief in big government - which only proves my point that you and others like you don't have a clue what conservatism is all about.

DOES A BROWN VICTORY POSE A DANGER FOR THE GOP?

No doubt this Republican win in Boston, of all places, spells certain defeat for conservatism. Oh my God, how much we could have won with a loss!! Grip my hand, Rick, and assure me you are right!!

SUPPORTING SCOTT BROWN: PRAGMATISM OR PRINCIPLE?

Inspired by Obama? What has happened has gone completely over your head. This shouldn't even be close for the Democrats, but their hubris has gotten the best of them.

WHY CONSERVATISM IS DISCONNECTED FROM REALITY

It would help your case when you write "a growing tolerance for government solutions to prickly, systemic problems experienced by ordinary Americans" if there were any empirical evidence to support this proposition (a claim you constantly make, as if repetition is an argument). As it is, there is none and this is your detachment from reality--and the inverse is precisely why conservatism remains the most widely held philosophical belief. If you want to criticize some for fantasy, and many do deserve the dig, it would help you if you weren't totally delusional on this point or at least presented some proof. As all objective evidence shows, you are more whacked out on this particular point than Sarah Palin is on revisiting the 18th Century.

Expansive government is why Obama and the Left are going down faster than a five dollar whore during sailor week. Why this escapes you is puzzling.

SARAH PALIN AS THE PIVOT FOR 'NEW' GOP

Actually, Richard, losing 2010 seems very important to the Democrats. Then again, you have reminded people why they threw you on the ash heap of history a couple of decades ago so your four-year exodus from the wilderness is about to end.

Dream on, Richard. But I will hand it to you: that strained, nay, non-existent connection between some whack job and Palin's relationship to the GOP leadership was innovative even if unproductive. The coming rout of Democrats from the Congress won't even be the first shoe to drop after indpenedents and the American public at large have seen the grotesque visages of Pelosi, Reid and Obama and the vast destruction they managed in less than a year. We don't even need boogeymen. Your freak show speaks for itself.
