IS JOE THE PLUMBER FAIR GAME?

The idea put forward by some commenters here that the politics of personal destruction are a left-wing phenomenon is absolutely bizarre.

How about Rush Limbaugh referring to Chelsea Clinton as "the White House dog?" How about Congressman Burton shooting watermelons in his back yard in an attempt to prove that Bill Clinton murdered Vince Foster? How about Swift Boating? How about John McCain's illegitimate black baby? How about a multiple amputee war hero who is slandered by being connected with Osama Bin Laden? And none of you seem to want to answer the point that has been repeated here: Graeme Frost.

This entire campaign as carried on most right-wing blogs has been a campaign of personal destruction. It's all you've got. Muslim Obama, foreigner Obama, terrorist Obama, corrupt Obama, America-hating Obama. I will happily bet any of you that there are more attacks on Obama online than there are on McCain.

Limbaugh, Hannity, Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, O'Reilly and you clowns are going to sit there wallowing in sanctimony about personal attacks?

Are you imbeciles or liars?

I don't think the problem for Joe the Plumber is his connection to Charles Keating. I think a far bigger problem is his starring role in any number of porno films.* I think we all know why Joe doesn't actually make $250,000. It's because he takes so much of his income "in kind."**

I don't blame Joe for all of that -- after all, the lonely, budget-conscious housewife is certainly guilty as well -- but still, if Joe is going to run for Vice President like this he has to expect to take some heat for his past.

*That's what I hear, anyway.
** Note my principled refusal to use the term, "laying pipe."

BLACK NIGHT RIDERS TERRORIZING OUR POLITICS

It's always unfair when one side loses its tactical advantage as the other side adapts. It's an outrage when the victim smacks the bully with the bully's own baseball bat. With all due respect: boo hoo. As you (generically) sow, so shall you reap.

Flag pins, Michelle Obama's "whitey" tape, Muslim rumors, "Palling around with terrorists," charges of treason and betrayal of the troops and 24/7 attacks on talk radio and in the blogosphere coming on the heels of Swift Boat, McCain's illegitimate black baby and going back to the southern strategy and on and on and on, and now the GOP wants to complain?

I wish politics had not descended to this point. I wished it when Democrats were holding the crap end of that stick, and I wish it now. But it was all a lot of fun for Republicans when Hannity and Limbaugh and Savage and Coulter and Lee Atwater and Karl Rove and Jerry Falwell were driving politics into the gutter. Occasionally we'd hear a Republican "tut tut," but now that Republicans are getting beat we're getting howls of pain that sound ever so much more sincere.

The Republican party has perfected the politics of personal attack, phony outrage, base-pandering, and division. Now mean old John Lewis is picking on Republicans?

Awww.

IF ELECTED, OBAMA WILL BE MY PRESIDENT

#35
I supported the war, genius. I was for an increase in forces and a change of strategy in Iraq before McCain was. (Or Rick, if I recall correctly.) Soon after the start of the surge I wrote a post titled, "Did We Just Win a War?"

Go find someone else to play the role of mindless Bush-hater. I think Bush has been a disaster. But it's not off some grudge from 2000.

I was pretty late to that party - August of 2006 as I recall.

I don't want to go all mushy on you, but that was patriotic, Rick.

For myself I look forward to shifting my targets from GOP to Democrat. It feels like forever since I got to beat up o a Democratic president.

ARE CONSERVATIVES ANGRIER THAN LIBERALS?

Gee, Rick, it must be frustrating when your candidate doesn't get the memo. Just when the conservative blogosphere had risen up as one to denounce the notion that McCain-Palin rallies were getting nasty, up pops John McCain to call out his own supporters and remind them that Obama is a decent family man.

I guess the campaign's polling must have revealed a problem.

Let's see, does this remind us of anything? For the confederate battle flag? Against the confederate battle flag?

OBAMA IS NOT A SOCIALIST

August, in your comments section I wrote:

Biden’s the right choice. And you’re still off-base trying to picture Obama as naive. This was not a naive choice. Obama is closer to being ruthless than naive.

I’ll tell you what: I’ll bet you a bottle of your favorite whatever ($70 max. value, so that leaves out the Macallan 55 year,) that a year from now, if Obama wins, you’ll agree with me on that characterization.

To which you replied:

Did you read his comments on China? Holy Christ what a naive idiot! China evicts 10,000 people to make way for a new runway, not paying them for their farmland and threatening them with violence unless they left – no recourse to a court nor appeal to a higher authority. And Obama thinks we should be more like China because they improved their airport so efficiently?

Either naive or a commie. Which is it?

ed.

Technically of course you didn't accept my bet. Still and all, I think that when I am next in Chicago you probably owe me a drink if not an entire bottle. I'm partial to the bar at the Four Seasons (so a drink costs what a bottle would) because they let you smoke a cigar. (Or at least they did. Your idiot city council didn't get to them, did it?)

AYERS-OBAMA: THE VOTERS DON'T CARE

The ultimate question is why? Why all these radicals, bigots, anti-semites, and political kooks in his background. The list is impressively long. What is it about these people that attracted Obama?

Just in case anyone's looking for a definition of "guilt by association."

The Annenberg challenge records show that there were a lot of screwy ideas for “reform” that were presented.

You clearly don't have kids in school. Last year my kid's school decided Monday through Friday didn't work and so invented A through F days, essentially changing a five day week into a six day week. Screwy is a daily reality in education.

Kurtz’s examination of the record (as well as those reporters who bothered) reveal Obama to be a liar. Ayers was not “just some guy in the neighborhood.” Funny you and other Obama apologists never mention that.

That's it? That's what leads us to a coming radical apocalypse? A politician lying about knowing some looney tune? Imagine that. A politician rewriting his personal history to make himself look better. I've never heard the like.
