WHY CONSERVATIVES SHOULD EMBRACE FINANCIAL REGULATION

Being supportive of a free market most decidedly does not mean that conservatives should oppose all regulation, or support less than adequate regulation ...

Brilliant. A thousand times yes. Establishing rules of the game, assuring competition and market stability, protecting the government's purse from the ravages of systemic meltodown- all strike me as reasons conservative should endorse reasonable regulation. Certainly most have benefited from the reasonable regulation of depository banks. Alas, most House conservatives see "reasonable regulation" as oxymoronic. It isn't, though I see little hope the GOP will view things in this light.

IN DEFENSE OF HOWARD ZINN - SORT OF

I liked some of The People's History. but remain annoyed at Springsteen's painful Woody Gutherie pose. I'm sure he admires Gutherie, but until he significantly reduces ticket prices, his socialist cred remains suspect. Power to the People at $100 bucks a pop? I'm skeptical.

PALIN AND HER SUPPORTERS IN A TIME WARP

Her incessant whining drives me crazy. But her know-nothing, populist anti-intellectualism is irresistible. She's also drawn to victimhood and martyrdom. What's not to love?

WHAT'S IN A BOW?

Why can't we discuss something of importance- like CC Sabathia's oversized pants?

This is silliness. If Barack's 5'8" (say, Truman's size), his bow appears much more modest. He's tall and somewhat gangly ala Lincoln. His counterpart is short. Let's move on.

As I recall GWB and GHWB both held hands with Saudi royalty. Can't remember if a liplock ensued. Still Liberal @18 reminds me that they did, but it doesn't matter. Barack overexaggerated a bow, but America remains intact. This isn't JFK at Vienna, where Nikita sizes him up as weak.

THE NFL IS WORRIED ABOUT A 'RACIST' OWNER?'

Thanks for the common sense analysis, Melanie. He doesn't know when to stop- exactly.

The tell-tale clue re: Fergie's ownership is that few knew about it until this controversy. She's not a lightning rod. Neither is JZ.

Rick's correct to point out that the NFL's chock full of hypocrisy, and Rush is free to comment on it daily. Permitting him to buy in, however, would only grant him a catbird's seat for more drama and self-aggrandizement. The existing owners would buy themselves headaches with no upside.

NO, AMERICA -- YOU CAN'T KEEP THE HEALTH INSURANCE YOU HAVE NOW

Rick wrote, can we trust the President and Dems on anything? In the case of health care, no. It's pretty much well-intentioned ends justifying misguided means. Strong arm it through, worry about details later.

CAN GINGRICH RIDE AN ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT WAVE TO THE OVAL OFFICE?

Reynolds, you rabble-rouser, you. I assumed it was a typo- that you meant "twit". Equally apt.

GOP MORE POPULAR THAN AT ANY TIME SINCE YESTERDAY

Reynolds @5- dude, your logical is impeccable. You really need to write your own blog. You do? Oh.

SPINNING THE LIGHT FANTASTIC

Scientific polling was very accurate in the last two presidential contests. Rick's surmise is spot on. It's over.
