FRUM IS BEING TOO KIND

As to the racial argument, I look for Obama himself to make it as he slides into irrelevancy. The image of Johnny Cochran, Lee Bailey and the other clowns clad in the ANC colors at the Simpson trial may be repeated at the White House. Fortunately, the Left's worn racism lies are routinely derided now and will pull them further down.

For whatever reason my other post was pulled. I will assume it was due to the profanity. To summarize: Frum is a delusional twit. He has a tiny megaphone and lacks the intellectual heft of Levin. He is nothing, his website is insipid, and he is about to become as irrelevant to public discourse as Obama will be either after this fall or 2010. Frum hitched his wagon to an economic illterate and one-term wonder and will feel the full effect of his idiotic choice. I actually listened to an archived radio exchange between Frum and Levin. The former came across as shrill and quite vapid, and despite what is said about Levin's radio act it was quite clear he was the adult and the brains in that conversation.

IT'S PAST TIME TO INOCULATE CONSERVATISM AGAINST THE BIRTHERS

I don't agree with you here:

"I don’t blame Obama for fighting it. It is an insult to the presidency, to begin with. And the fact that no other president or presidential candidate in history has been asked to “prove” they are citizens is a personal insult to Obama."

He made a tactical decision not to release it. Maybe it was to try to discredit the right, I don't know. But these things tend to spin out of control and soon it will be mainstream, as happened with the bogus Bush desertion crapola.

There is no doubt Obama is a citizen. I would like to know, though, whether Hawaii required religious affiliation back then to be listed as many states did. Obama's birth certificate very well could list "agnostic" given his parents' beliefs, which means he sold the American people short. My point here is that there may have been something that he feared other than the citizenship nonsense, or it may have been a tactical decision to try to hurt conservatives. Either way, it has reached critical mass and it is time to put an end to this nonsense, as only the president can do. I'm not in the habit of offering helpful advice to Obama, but it has come time for him to put this one away. The whack jobs always will believe something to the contrary, but who cares? As for the dignity of the office, I fail to see how release of a birth certificate would impact it. That seems absurd, frankly.

So, yes, I do blame him.

NO, AMERICA -- YOU CAN'T KEEP THE HEALTH INSURANCE YOU HAVE NOW

The so-called "healthcare reform" has precious little to do with the uninsured and underinsured and everything to do with a naked power grab. The same applies to the cap and trade bill that barely slid through Congress and probably will die in the Senate. It was about power and doesn't even merit the label of an environmental bill.

Yes, Obama is a pathological liar, certainly the worst since Richard Nixon (but without the intellect). But Obama pales in comparison to the Congressional Democrats who have tried to ram these monstrosities down the throats of the American people. That Obama has thrown the congressional Dems under the bus and lined them up for utter slaughter in 2010 seems to have gone over their heads.

As for the above posts, ignore the newspaper source. Focus on, as Rick wrote, the CBO report. Focus on Obama's repeated lies about the ability to maintain present health insurance coverage. And as Rick wrote, consider how this will play with the American public.

I thought the Democrats would over-reach fairly quickly, but never thought they would reach a tipping point this soon. Obama may have thrown his fellow Dems under the bus, but they still have their hands on his arm and will drag him there, too, in 2012.

WHAT'S THE RUSH TO MARS, BUZZ? IT'S NOT LIKE IT'S GOING ANYWHERE

If you don't think this economic illiterate of a president won't try to stimulate the solar system, let me show you a brochure of oceanfront properties available on the Red Planet. After all, He's the mathematically challenged reincarnation of JFK. I look for Buzz to be appointed Mars Czar soon.

PROSECUTING TORTURE AS A DISTRACTION FROM THE ECONOMY

All that matters now is the economy, which Obama began to own after his massive spending orgies. Needless to say, the waste and graft have produced nothing discernible and may make things worse in the out years. The congressional Dems, in effect, were thrown under the bus as they will feel the voters' wrath first in 2010. But my guess is that unless things begin to turn around rather soon, Obama will not be re-elected despite his sacrifice of his fellow party members.

Pelosi and company have not learned the first rule of holes. Not that it matters, really, because there is precious little bread to pass out at their circus. The fate of congressional Dems are joined at the hip with Obama on the economy, and no amount of distraction will change that nasty reality. People are event-driven now. Transparent distraction only will make things worse for the Dems unless there is some economic turn-around no one believes will happen.

MUST IT BE ROMNEY IN 2012?

Chuck:

"It will be a cold day in evangelical hell before a Mormon gets elected president in the US."

I heard the same about a mixed-raced president this time last year. My guess is that much would be "forgiven" to hustle Obama out of office in 2012, the least of which would be Romney's Mormonism. On the other hand, I agree with the above poster that the field may be very crowded if Obama continues to unravel due to his profligate spending orgies and economic recklessness, so it may be premature to guess who the GOP nominee will be. The weaker the president is at that time, unless he recovers, the more people will want to be his opponent.

PALIN: THE WAR CONTINUES

Derrick,

If Obama could get elected, any Empty Suit deluxe could. That is what excites the Palin folks. If a bumbling, economic illiterate like Obama could be elected, certainly someone more marginally qualified than he could be. And let's face it: Obama was and remains at the far margins of qualification. Obama had his Katrina/Iraq/name it moments in the first five months of his Administration as he engaged in economic policies that will implode in the near term. I don't see him re-elected without a lot of media and other left-wing character assassination, and even that might not cut it unless the laws of economics are suspended.

I imagine, if Obama continues to go down quickly and surely, there will be numerous qualified candidates jump into the race. The Carter analogy is quite apt, but the field had been cleared for Reagan. So Rick's point is a good one--the media and other leftists are compelled to clear the field for Obama so neither a Reagan nor even someone marginally more qualified than the completely marginal and mediocre Obama is left standing.

The problem the president's enablers face, of course, is such tactics are about to wear very thin, as does the enabled. It will be a fascinating three and one-half years.

Part of it may be prospective Republican presidential candidates realize Obama suddenly has become quite vulnerable, too. I do agree the Left has started to try to assassinate potential Obama rivals one by one because they smell the blood in the water as well.

As for Stacy McCain, I will have to say his devastating deconstruction of batshit crazy Andrew Sullivan may be among the best no-holds-barred hit pieces I have ever read. I normally would say a person with the obvious problems Sullivan manifests should be off limits, but as long as the Atlantic wants to sponsor his on line freakshow, he's fair game.

MORE ON THE HONDURAN 'MILITARY IMPEACHMENT'

Shit, make that the "former."

Fine piece, Rick.

This is indeed a fact-specific event. I only hope Obama reacted hastily without information rather than sided with a left-wing goon out of solidarity or idealism or whatever. I don't expect better from the HuffPo.

I have strained and strained (and haven't had time to research), but this is the first time I remember a Latin American nation's military that ousted a leader to restore democracy. I was relieved to learn way back when that Clinton would be Obama's SOS. She, at least, has enough institutional memory to know what a truly rare event this one is.

Obama's worldview either is uninformed or it is appalling. For our sake, I hope it is the latter.
