ELECTION DAY THOUGHTS

Rick - I already wrote it. You can put it on the front page if you want:

After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion the Chicago Bears are a superior football organization in every way to the Minnesota Vikings. This has not been a easy realization for me to come to, as I am a long time fan of the Vikings, having been one for over 30 years, plus I am a season ticket holder. However, the facts are the facts.

First, the Personalities of the history of the Bears far outshines those of the Vikings. From Red Grange and Bronko Nagurski thru Dick Butkus and Mike Ditka, onto Jim McMahon and Refrigerator Perry, and today with Devin Hester and Brian Urlacher, their players have color. The only comparable Vikings players in the color category were Jim Marshall who is known more for a boneheaded play rather than his greatness, Carl Eller, whose color comes mainly from beating up cops, Randy Moss whose color came from stupid antics (although both Bears fans and Vikings fans find it hard to fault him for mooning the Packers' Fans), and Onterio Smith who was caught with a prostetic penis used to fool drug tests. Advantage Clearly Bears.

Second, Coaching. First the Bears had George Halas, a legendary coach who won several NFL Titles. Their next great coach was Iron Mike, who won them a Super Bowl, and did so with flair and earned cult like status in Chicago. Our guys? Norm Van Broklin who succeeded only in running off one of the best QBs of all time, Bud Grant, a great coach who couldn't win the big one, Jerry Burns, a guy known mainly for underachieving on the field and dropping an f-bomb every 4 words in press conferences, Denny Green, another under achieving coach, Mike Tice the ticket scalper, and Brad Childress, perhaps our worst coach ever (and I haven't forgotten Les Steckle). Advantage? Da Bears.

Third, we have to look at the uniforms. Clearly the Bears uniform is superior. Once upon a time the Vikings had good looking uniforms as well, but some ex-Giants fan owner gave us uniforms that look better suited for Arena league play. The Bears uniforms on the other hand, reek class and sophistication while still maintaining a tough guy apperance. Advantage, Da Bears.

Fourth, Stadium. The Bears play in a historic stadium where the atomic bomb was created, it's called Soldier Field. There's no way some teflon bubble named after a squishy liberal Vice-President can top that. Plus, why the hell are the Vikings playing inside anyway. Whimps. Advantage, overwhelmingly Da Bears.

Fifth, Cheerleaders. The Bears cheerleaders all appear to be created out of Greek Mythology tales surrounding seduction. The Vikings' cheerleaders appear to be scooped up out of a Hennipen Avenue crack house. Advantage the Bears.

Lastly, History. The Bears have on overwhelmingly rich history filled with legendary plays and players, titles and greatness - sending their fans to both the highest peaks and the lowest valleys. The Vikings on the other hand have only set up their fans for habitual and continual disappointment.

Yes, when you add it all up, the Bears are clearly the superior football organization.

WHO ARE YOU CALLING A MODERATE?

Well, I don't see any Patterico, Ace, Instapundit, Captain's Quarters or Powerline on there, so I wouldn't get too bent out of shape about not being invited.

Oh, and the one singular thing you need to add to your list of believes:

I believe that not everything done by the Republican Party in the name of conservativism is in fact conservative.

Anyone that wants to know why the Republican party has gone into decline can find the answer in our failure to keep that belief in mind.

IS JOE THE PLUMBER FAIR GAME?

Would the right wing really do it? I seem to remember when unfair questions were asked by "independent" voters in the primaries that the right wing dug up that those people had Democrat party or other left wing ties.

That seems to be fair game.

However, I don't remember the right wing publishing personal addresses, misdemeanor arrest records or anything not related to the question.

So, I take issue with your premise.

OBAMA IS NOT A SOCIALIST

Jim - Colin Powell will be 76 or 77 in 2012, which is WAY too old. Also, he probably won't want to put up with Democrats calling him an Uncle Tom his entire campaign.

AYERS-OBAMA: THE VOTERS DON'T CARE

Flyer -

I agree - it is an uphill battle for the Republicans, but the facts are the facts. McCain needs to say:

"This mess is the culmination of a well meaning, but ultimately irresponsible effort to allow people you wouldn't lend $200 to buy $300K houses. These are people with less than 5% down payments, incomes which couldn't make payments after the ARMs expired, and sketchy credit histories. Now, if someone believes that the bankers were the driving force to make these loans, so they could, in 2 years, spend $70k to foreclose on the mortgage, they can. But the truth is Congress created goals tied to government largess which encouraged banks to make these loans because Congress wanted to increase home ownership amongst certain groups. Does that sound Republican or Democrat to you?"

Flyer Hawk - I don't think that the Freddie/Fannie link is so much with Obama as it is with Democrats in general. The Republicans are being blamed for the subprime mess, and in reality, 90% of the problem, and 99% of the malfesance, rests with the Democrats. McCain needs to educate the people tonight.

Not sure.

A lot of Americans don't know about this. I talked with my father, right before the Dem convention and he wasn't aware of the tie. Now, my father is a former state Republican chairman, so while he is "out of it" when compared to the high end news gathers represented in the blogosphere, he is certainly more "in it" than the average voter. McCain DOES need to take that case to the people. He needs to take the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac argument to them.

PS Rick - I'm not nearly as confident as I was from 60 weeks ago to 2 weeks ago.

OBAMA SUPPORTERS UNDERCUT CANDIDATE'S CRITIQUE OF MCCAIN

Actually, I will disagree with McCain here. The Fundamentals of our economy are NOT strong, at least as commonly understood (Bloomberg's fundamentals are stronger).

This country has a coming entitlement sh!tstorm that is going to crush us. We have fueled too much of our economic growth on borrowed money - both as individuals and as a government - and that debt is held by foreigners. How long they will continue to hold that debt is the key question. Maybe as long as we continue to be the reserve currency of the world, but that isnt' guaranteed. There are already some rumblings of some countries switching to the Euro, and if our weak dollar policies continue, more will follow.

Additionally, our economy still relies on cheap energy, and our inability to find suitable alternative fuels and sources is going to contribute to our mess.

In short, the only way to get our looming crisis under control without painful remedies will be a great fuel innovation that will give us the equivalent of 1.50 a gallon gasoline and keep that wealth here in the US.

And, if McCain or The Obamessiah have any serious ideas on how to make that happen, I'd be interested in hearing them.

OBAMA THROWS 'HOPE AND CHANGE' UNDER THE BUS

Don't forget our Bet Rick.

Actually, want to change the terms. After McCain is elected, I want to write a front page post explaining how I knew it all along. I will be owed that pat on the back - I've been saying this for over a year now.
