ON GETTING SCREWED

Protected speech? Why, yes you can say what you want. This concept also allows others to point out the merit of what you say as well.

The real paradox is that politicians accept money for others to use their office, while prostitutes accept money for others to use their orifice. I see very little difference between the two deals.

Not a big Republican fan, but Rick is right. A few more of the family values crowd will be shown to have feet of clay.

But, is this really less hypocritical than the good liberals a few years back, proclaiming unending dedication and fealty to the poor, the immigrants, the great unwashed, having illegal aliens working as domestics at substandard wages without benefits?

We all sin and fall short (and for Rick and other non-religious types, we all step on our pecker every once in a while).

Messages have greater value than the messengers. Grow up.

WHY THE POLITICIZATION OF GOVERNMENT IS WRONG

DKM

Do you have any references for your claims, any facts? I am old enough to remember John Kennedy in office, and I can't think of any other administration so hell bent on controlling access to information and decision-making processes and warping the rules of legal conduct by the Executive branch. Not even Nixon.

I no longer see control of the media by the left. Many major news sources are not left leaning, Murdoch's enterprises, Fox News for example. The MSM, as it has been Rushified, holds a great deal of responsibility for giving a free pass to the Bush Administration on the run up to the Iraq war. Very little investigation into the claims of WMD, the supposed menace to America by Saddam, etc. If that seems a left wing controlled media to you, you perhaps need to think it through a little more.

I don't know your age, but I can assume you do not possess decades of adult experience. You will be "old" in a blink of the eye, and I suspect you will not see yourself as a has been at that time. I suspect you will also rue your current statements as foolishness. Hey, I voted for Nixon in the greatest sincerity. A personal dumbass moment for me as well.

Please read Molly Ivin's "Bushwhacked: Life in George W. Bush's America." Even if you don't like liberals. Perhaps especially if you don't like liberals. A more devastating exposition of Bush's dismantling of science, the social safety net, and government in general cannot be found. With very clear evidence.

SCIENTISTS TOLD TO LOOK FOR "WEIRD" LIFE

Dude, you brought up non-thinking stereotyping AND watermelon eating and lawn mowing minorities. If you think that is taking a high road, think again. You can't roll in the mud and them complain about muddy people.

If pointing out that both left and right use stereotyping implies endorsement of sterotyping by either side to you, you understand logic and discourse not at all.

tHePeOPle on stereotyping

You bet, and Rick also left out the cousin-marryin' NASCAR fans, conservative Christians forcin' theyselves on America, and Confederate flagwavin' Jew-haters.

Oh, sorry. The left would NEVER sink to stereotyping ANYONE, would you?

RAGE AGAINST THE NIGHT - AND GLOBAL WARMING

I have been holding back too long on my commitment to ending global warming. Using my trusty Wikipedia, I learned that water vapor is the biggest greenhouse gas culprit, emitting from 36% to 70% of all greenhouse gases, the variance being whether you add gases together or look at their individual effects.

Friends, I want to run for office, so here is my idea from the greening of Mother Earth. DRAIN THE DAMN OCEANS! Evaporation from the oceans causes the most water vapor, ergo greenhouses gases, by far, making dear Gaia suffer immeasureably.

I invite all who care to help me with a few kinks to be worked out yet (not quite sure where to drain the oceans to), but together we can defeat global warming!!!! DRAIN THE OCEANS, SAVE THE PLANET!!!

p.s. another small kink is how we save the whales while saving the planet with my plan. But I'm sure some Wiccan, neo-feminist, post-modern jihadist marine biologist can help me out.

SUCCESS IN A VACUUM

"And finally, you can’t tell me with any certainty what the death count in Iraq will be without the presence of U.S. troops and their U.S. commanded Iraqi troops."

No, but I CAN tell you the number of U.S. troop deaths in Iraq after we leave: 0

For Heaven's sake, listen to Rick and everyone else with half a brain. The problem in Iraq is political, not amenable to a military solution by U.S. troops. No matter how hard you beat on a feather, it will never work as a nail.

Rick, you speak the truth, plainly and unvarnished on this topic. The most likely scenerio is to not achieve any political solution in Washington, and the current situation limps along until Bush leaves office.

Iraq is a politicized mess, as you point out. The Democrats will be in no mood to compromise with Bush or to give an assist to Republicans in any way. The demonization of the left by the Republicans and the pettiness of Democrats in response will preclude any compromise.

If Bush and Cheney were in charge of Microsoft, its stock would be trading for 84 cents a share. If they were half the manly men they pretend to be, they would resign immediately.
