IRAQI PRESIDENT: THE "LAST THROES" OF DEMENTIA?

My bad, Drewsmom. I thought I was engaging in a rational dialogue. Its likely a waste of time, but here goes. 1. I did not and do not advocate "getting the hell outta Iraq". 2. Most of the "hollyweird left crowd" ARE Jewish, 3. I have no idea what you are talking about with the hezballah and bitching comment. 4. If we complete the major goals of our intervention in Iraq, terrorism will not stop.
Feel free to exchange ideas or to criticize my ideas. If you just want to continue to throw leftover Limbaugh feces, keep them to yourself.

Drewsmom:
I very much want Iraq to be a peaceful country and a friend of the United States. The right wing noise machine uses any criticism of the war as "not wanting us to win." The failures Mr. Moran pointed out are our failures, we invaded, we are in charge. My comment was anything but gleeful, but rather an effort to point out that out failures have put the entire Iraq operation in danger of not achieving our desired outcomes. If the U.S. military cannot contain the situation in three years, why will 5 more months of the same strategy bring a more controlled situation, as Rick Moran proposes?

Blind obedience is of no more value than blind opposition.

Rick, you just described the outcome of three plus years of American military presence in Iraq. A blazing shitstorm. What facts convince you that the situation will be better by the end of the year?

MAKING OMELETTES IN THE MIDDLE EAST

"And while it is doubtful that Iran specifically ordered the aggression against Israel that has precipitated this latest round of Middle Eastern violence, no one disagrees with the notion that the mullahs are not supporting it."

Rick, you are a superb writer, but it looks like you got one too many negatives after the last comma in the above sentence. If one changes "no one disagrees" to "everyone agrees" (same meaning phrased positively) you get,

"And while it is doubtful that Iran specifically ordered the aggression against Israel that has precipitated this latest round of Middle Eastern violence, everyone agrees with the notion that the mullahs are not supporting it."

We who read you know how careful and respectful you are with English composition. A very useful and though provoking post overall.

THE IMMORALITY OF THE DEMOCRATS' POSITION ON THE WAR

Very thoughtful commentary. I am a life long Democrat with nothing but contempt for the current gaggle of Democratic "leaders". Be FOR something positive or be gone!

The problems in Iraq are numberous and indeed onerous. "Cut and run" is an inappropriate response to the current situation in Iraq, however, as is "stand and die forever." My hope is that President Bush would provide more concrete benchmarks for the idea of "when the Iraqis stand up, we'll stand down." Such as:
Exactly how many Iraqi soldiers and police must be functioning before we withdraw honorably?
How many insurgent stikes per week are an acceptable number before we can withdraw honorably?
What must the oil and electricity production level be in all of Iraq before we can withdraw honorably?
What are the specific functions and levels of functioning that must be attained by the new government before we can withdraw honorably?

It would seem to me that the level of support for the War in Iraq would undoubtably increase if, as Rick Moran wrote above, Americans knew more specific objectives of the democratization project in Iraq. Americans of all political persuasions have persevered in time of war when what we are fighting for is clear to them.

TALKING TO IRAN A NECESSARY EVIL

Dr. Rice: “To underscore our commitment to a diplomatic solution and to enhance prospects for success, as soon as Iran fully and verifiably suspends its enrichment and reprocessing activities, the United States will come to the table,” Rice says in her prepared text. “We hope that in the coming days, the Iranian government will thoroughly consider this proposal.”

Real world parallel offer:
"I would like to sell you a car and hereby make a commitment to honest negotiation. As soon as you give me $35,000, we will begin negotiations on the purchase of the car."

THE MIND BLOGGLING CONSEQUENCES OF BUSH DERANGEMENT SYNDROME

Oohhh, a poll said something stupid, so the left is at fault. Here's a poll of over 1,200 people http://www.cnn.com/US/9706/15/ufo.poll/.

Sixty percent polled believed that aliens have contacted people on Earth and 50% believed aliens have abducted humans.
Wow, the right wingers have lied to Americans so much that believe in aliens! And they hate liberals! Liberal Derangement Syndrome (liberalism is a mental disorder,i.e., Michael Savage) is poisoning the minds of America! (This silliness makes as much sense as the blather above.)

Accusation of Bush hatred is just another tactic of the right to divert attention from the massive failures of our Conservative president. And don't tell me he's not a "real conservative." You bought him, you paid for him, he's yours.

TAKE OFF THE 9/11 TINFOIL HATS

Outstanding post. By the way, Oliver Stone has a new movie coming out about 9/11, "World Trade Center", which no doubt will be just as ill conceived and as wildly inaccurate as his "JFK" movie. I am not a fan of G.W. Bush or his administration, but to even imply any type of administration active involvement in 9/11 is both reprehensible and baseless.
