BEWARE OF THE DRAFT AND OTHER OCTOBER SURPRISES

"I would first point out that if Bush gave a speech like that, I would be willing to run naked through the next Democratic National Convention."

Rick, you know I love your snarky attitude, but this quote borders on a terrorist threat!! Seriously, the imperiously stupid left-wing rants you cite above are the type of thing that got me to leave the Democratic party after 30 years. Too many party leaders give credence and voice to this type of crap.

THE GROUND ZERO MEMORIAL NIGHTMARE THAT ALMOST WAS

"If you can answer this question correctly, you “get it”: Why do so many baseball fans outside of New York hate the Yankees?"

Answer: Arrogance, sir, arrogance.

"DAY OF RAGE?" WHAT NEW.

Perhaps it is time to pursue the GWOT without reference to Islam. I don't care what motivates people to blow up buildings and people, I just want them killed, defeated, whatever it takes to get terrorism stopped. We didn't defeat Japan in WWII because of their worship of and willingness to die for the Emperor as a deity, it was because of their aggression and desire to destroy America. The used religion to create suicide bombers (kamikazis) but their religious motives were never emphasized.

Why piss off a billion people with rhetoric involving Islam? Just attack terrorism and terrorists without reference to motive.

HAS THE POPE THROWN DOWN THE GAUNTLET TO ISLAM?

Bob Z:

I agree with your comments about moderate Muslims, but have to tell you that the Pope's words only rarely have infallibility, or his speaking for God. Only ex cathedra statements reach the level of infallibility.

IF IT'S BROKE, FIX IT

It matters not a fig what our plan is. The Sunnis and the Shias will fight for dominance in Iraq regardless of what we do. Iran will continue to provide support for their fellow Shias in Iraq and will escalate that support as needed to prevent excessive Sunni control of their next door neighbor.

"Cut and run" is a cute slogan. "Realizing you have made a severe mistake in judgement and need to drastically change course" doesn't have the same cuteness and jingoistic appeal, but it is an unmistakable fact that must be faced.

Iraq is not, has never been, and never will be the central stage for the war on terror. And Rumsfeld's "lean, mean fightin' machine" idea was an all-in bet that has been beaten by a jack high hand. Leave the table immediately, sir.

When the overwhelming evidence demonstrates that your "stay the course" is a refusal to turn the steering wheel when you are clearly headed for a tree is no longer a strength, but sheer stupidity. One last bromide, some problems do not have a fix. A car eventually reaches a place where fixing it is no longer a viable solution. You need a new car. Such is our war in Iraq. Time for a trade-in, she can't be fixed

LICENSE TO KILL

I completely agree that these threats are disgusting and stupid behavior. My serious question, however, is how exactly can minority Democrats do anything about a television broadcast license? I may be wrong, but aren't broadcast licenses the perview of the FCC, under the control of the (Republican) administrative branch? And aren't the licenses issued to individual stations, not networks?

AIR BRUSHING HISTORY

As much as I appreciate your thoughts and writing skills, terrorism has been politicized by both the left and the right. Clinton screwed up by not killing Osama. Bush screwed up by invading Iraq. So what? How do these facts solve the terrorism problem?

Pissing around further in Iraq will not end terrorism, if we stay for 50 years. That said, President Bush has done a lot right with pursuing the financial interests of terrorists, and in domestic and foreign survelliance to prevent attacks.

It is past time to stop the blame game, and Rick, it pains me to say you play the blame game frequently. It is NOT more important for conservatives to win than to prevent terrorism. And to say that Democratic politicians would not pursue prevention of terror attacks is disingenuous at best. The fruitballs on the left will not make defense decisions, no more that the batshit crazy religious righties will.

ASSASSINATING BUSH AND OTHER OCCASIONS FOR HUMOR

Some of us old-timers remember the assassination of President Kennedy. It was a horrible, tragic event for the nation. There is nothing remotely funny about the topic. Regardless of politics, trying to draw attention to oneself through something so ugly is just wrong.

I didn't vote for him, I think Iraq was a bad mistake in the War on Terror, but George Bush is my President and you had best stop the jokes about murdering him. The Coalition of Kooks that passes for the Democratic Party base nowadays has moved me from Democrat to the Independent column. Add the brainless twit maha to the COK.

OUR WHOLE ROTTEN, SMELLY, SEWER OF A GOVERNMENT

Excellent post, Rick, but there are solutions. It is time to take advantage of modern communication technology and move from a Federal central location to divergent locations for different governmental functions. Put the Department of Agriculture in Nebraska (lot's of farming there), the Department of State in Hawaii (closer to the Islamic States), the Senate in Florida (the old farts never retire anyway, so work in a retirement area), the Department of Defense in Iraq (if you support the War, more oversight; if you oppose the War, Rummie reaps what he sowed), the Supreme Court in Alaska, the White House in Lower Manhattan, NY and so forth. Would help break up the K Street lobbyist racket, limit the internecine government battles coming from too close proximity, discourage overstaying one's welcome as an elected official, limit job hopping by federal employees with an agenda, and lastly, allow D.C. to return to the states from whence it came - residents get to vote and be represented and the excessive welfare spigot directed to the District can be shut off.
And what a great litmus test. If your Congress person opposes these changes, you know he/she doesn't have the people's interest at heart and you can vote them out! Are you with me, people?!!!!

A win-win for everyone!
