It was the dishonesty within his initial reply to the charges that really bothered me. Not that I would not forgive him under the circumstances, but the trust is gone.

Yes, I do still think that Russia is an enemy...but I think that there is even more to the reluctance to release these documents than that. I guess we will have to wait and see what turns up! I believe that other supposed allies will prove less than pretended (and worth more protection).

I believe that if President Bush handles this correctly, the political stupidity of this situation can be overcome. Here we have the President threatening a veto with no knowledge of the events prior to the last 2 to 3 days. Several Republicans say that there has been no detail vetting of the buyer. Rumsfield had no prior knowledge of the sell. Is there anything here that might raise any suspicions? The White House is caught off guard on this sell? Come on, this looks absolutely horrible...
At this point, the President needs to allow a 45 day detailed look at this buyout and allow Congress to report. Hopefully, no major problems are found and the lease goes on as usual.
There is no doubt that this was bungled and should have been handled very early on by the "Rove" team and no problems would have resulted. They were asleep on this and may suffer the consequences.
Again, although I understand the reasoning behind allowing UAE to finalize this deal, it was handled so poorly that it SHOULD fail

Cautious yes, believeable yes... I have no doubt that Saddam had inspirations to execute 9/11, just the lace of recources. Whether he helped instigate the process, who knows, but I certaintly would not put it to rest without some proof.
There is little doubt in my mind that if we had not taken him out, he would have eventually been responsible for such an attack.
To assume that our MSM would have ever assumed that is folly.

Well sorry, but I think that you are wrong on this one. I can understand where you are coming from but it will only lead you into more confrontation with Islamists. I belive Mishi said it best. You will probably change your position at some point in the future (hopefully). Appeasment does not work!

Unfortunately, I think the EU including Britain will continue their current course of "diplomacy" which will leave the US and Israel as the only countries to counter Iran. I keep hoping that they will come to a common agreement and at least isolate Iran, but I doubt that it will happen.
A good question regarding what they hope to accomplish with their hard line retoric. Maybe they wish to invigorate other Arab countries to their cause...
I agree with you in hoping that the suffering people rise up and overthrow the hard liners. That may be the only hope of avoiding a preventive attack by Israel.

While Iran may be bluffing on the world stage, I don't think that Israel will stand by and wait for the attack...after all it is their country that is being threatened. If the locals don't rebel soon, it will be too late and World War III will be inevitable.
