Hillary and the mother's milk
I wonder if the fresh-faced Hillary Rodham, Wellesley student, the NYT has been hyping of late had any idea of the ugly muck she would have to wade through for the rest of her life in pursuit of the power and the glory. Money, as the cliche goes, is the mother's milk of politics. That's been true all our lives. McCain -Feingold solved nothing. One of things about the Thompson campaign is that he has been doing well without a lot of money (ahead in today's Rasmussen). If that keeps up, maybe he will prove that you can run without such a ton of cash.... of course, he's an actor and all but... with the current insatiable media, almost anyone credible gets a huge amount of attention. Hillary was warned months ago that the Hsu money was funny money but she kept it anyway--despite dirty campaign money being her Achilles' heel--because she was playing by the old book:Raise the most money, try to win in the early primaries, make it look like your campaign is the invincible juggernaut. With the revolt of the states, Iowa and New Hampshire and the old Juggernaut strategy is also of limited effect.

I'm not at all surprised. Elections are largely about personality and connecting with the public. A recent poll showed that people were exactly wrong about the views of the various Dem candidates on Iraq, proving again the "debates" are a crock--a weasel's exercise in appealing to the base just enough without offending the middle--which no one in his right mind pays any attention to. Fred understands the art of communicating and will do so outside the box of recent elections --a box which includes not only the debate nonsense above, but raising millions and millions of dollars which are then pissed away on consultants who have them dressing in "earth tones", weaseling even more, and paying for ads and pushpolls no one responds to any more.

Well, I do so hope this creates no problems for Adam Gadahn but it's obvious he's our mole in AQ set out to turn them into laughstocks as he feeds us critical information.

I don't think Scooter lied. Really. The ptess never reports is but he told the FBI on the first day of the interview (and trial testimony is that they never recorded this) that his recollection w/o his notes was sketchy. He had just returned to D.C. and had had no opportunity to review his records or refresh his recollection w/ others. Nevertheless, he did have his June 12 note which revealed he'd first been told about---the then immemorable tidbit that Mrs. wilson "worked in couter proliferation" by Cheney.
I don't believe Russert whose first FBI interview reveals he said he didn't recall telling Libby but that it was "possible" he had.In any event at least the Washington Post is right about 2 things today (editorial--not reportage whivch is Godawful)

The trial has provided convincing evidence that there was no conspiracy to punish Mr. Wilson by leaking Ms. Plame's identity -- and no evidence that she was, in fact, covert.

P.S. Another thing the press never mentions is that beginning in May 2003 Wilson was working with Kerry (per Rand Beers statement in Oct 2003 that Wilson had been working with them for 6 months). May coincidentally is when he first began his claim(Kristof) that the Administration lied and ignored his report.

"SADDAM TAPES" REQUIRE A CAUTIOUS APPROACH
My thoughts exactly. I believe he had wmds and hid them or moved them, but it would be a disaster to overplay the significance of Sada or the tapes, because if they are debunked when better evidence surfaces, it will not be believed. Sada BTW left Iraq in 1991. I'd be very careful.
