OH. MY. GOD.

Just which "all" of science should Christians accept, Shawn? The science that everyone agrees on? Oh, wait, some Christians don't agree with some science. I guess they should be made to agree with all of it. After all, it's only right that superstitious rubes be made to accept ideas from those who don't hew to their beliefs.

Oh, wait, how will we define "science"? Is that limited to concrete observations of the universe, or are some of the more speculative ideas to be included? What about all those nasty little areas where there is no consensus? Perhaps those fools should be made to believe anything that a "scientist" says. That would probably be best.

GAME ON!

Rick,
Too bad. I was rooting for you, fwiw.

The conventional wisdom seems to be backing the Colts.

That's why the Bears will win. Good analysis, Rick, at least as good as the professionals, and we all know how good they are at picking winners.

NO WAY TO RUN A COLOR BLIND SOCIETY

P.S. You know what I find remarkable? That Dennis Green has been fired twice, and I have heard no mention that he was let go because he was black. He was let go because his teams weren't very good. In short, he was judged on his merits, not his skin color.

I don't understand the tone of this piece. Like Mike Ulrich, I read and enjoy your work every day. Instead of seeing the glass half full (like Lovie would), you insist on describing the glass as empty, and cracked to boot.

Success stories are just that, not opportunities to berate the circumstances of that success. Black quarterbacks are no longer a curiosity in the NFL, they are fast becoming a staple. In short, not many people think about a quarterback's race any more. I thought that was what a color-blind society would look like.

The NFL owners are a good-ole boy network. So what? They exist everywhere. Coaching vacancies often get filled by some of the usual suspects. When more of the usual suspects are black, then more black coaches will be hired (and fired) routinely. The current policy requiring token interviews by minorities is insulting to everyone, because many of those interviews are just that, tokens.

Belittling real progress toward an admirable goal is not helpful.

MY BELOVEDS: BOUND FOR GLORY (UPDATED)

This was even more satisfying than the Arizona game. I just introduced my daughter to the wonder that is the "Super Bowl Shuffle". And I saw the clip of Ditka on PTI where he declared himself a proud American.

Life is good.

SADDAM'S DEATH: A SAD ENDING TO A SAD CHAPTER IN HISTORY

Once again, people who bring up our support of creeps and dictators never get around to mentioning what we supported them against. "Right-wing" dictators who kill thousands versus communist dictators who kill millions. Saddam versus a fanatical Iran. No mention of the hard choices between bad and worst.

Why is that?

THEY HAVEN'T LEARNED A GODDAMNED THING

Well, I see the Stupid Party learned every lesson we could have expected them to.

Sheesh. They must be taking lessons from the Illinois Republican Party.

A DECLARATION OF (SEMI-AUTONOMOUS) INDEPENDENCE (SORT OF)

Rick,
If you pulled any punches in the past, I missed it. At times I've thought your criticisms were too harsh but I read anyway. I pulled some punches of my own, mainly relating to the Congressional Republicans. No more. They screwed the pooch far more than anything Bush did or didn't do, in my opinion. Keep on. I feel liberated as well. Conservatives need strong voices and yours is one of the best.

RUMMY OUT. GATES IN

I'm with you Jerry. I'm sick of the whining about why a third-world kleptocracy with significant tribal tensions, a defunct infrastructure, almost no experience with self-rule, and precious little identification with the national polity isn't like Arkansas by now.

I guess America can't do anything that's difficult, or bloody, or imperfect, or that might take more than a few weeks. Turn out the lights, the party's over.

That's hyperbole, of course. Donald Rumsfeld was hired to one job, which turned into another, with the first one still undone. He offered to resign more than once, but the President had confidence in him. He still had confidence in him with a marginally Republican Congress, but with a Democratic Congress, he becomes a lightning rod. The President showed loyalty to Rumsfeld until it became apparent that he would be unable to his job effectively. Now he can spend all the time he wants testifying before this committee or that hearing, while someone else runs DOD.
