Good post, Jim. Uncomfortible techniques have been used by our "non public" agencies under every administration, democrat or republican, since this country was founded. Maybe we should just, as a matter of course, hang every President and Vice President after their term is over. It could be a public festival...a catharsis of sort.
I, personally, view going to prison as torture. So, to some of you here, no matter what I do, better not send me to prison. Not if you want to keep a clear conscience.
For those of you who wish to be the lambs, fed to the lions, be my guest. Your sensitivities amuse me.
I, for one, thank God every night for the rugged, clear thinking men and women who are willing to put their lives and comfort on the line under the most extreme circumstances so that the rest of us might engage in these intellectual exercises.
Look around folks, Nature can be very cruel. Survival is rule number one.
Islamic extremism is the enemy we face today. Kindness will not defeat them. I say, look them in the eye, draw the line. If they cross it they pay. And it should be painful.Comment Posted By charlie dorfman On 25.12.2008 @ 10:49
Very funny...if only you had kept your transplanted Illinois man Barack to yourself, I would still be laughing.
Oh well, maybe he'll make the trains run on time.Comment Posted By charlie dorfman On 16.12.2008 @ 08:12
I'm a simple guy. In this essay Rick is too smart by half. All you theoriticians beware of the Law of Unintended Consequences. None of us can strategize the complexities of the future.
I say we have two candidates from which to pick. Choose the one you like best , or who is the least offensive, and vote for that candidate. What happens next, none of us can predict.Comment Posted By charlie dorfman On 20.09.2008 @ 06:59

Please let me add:
The McCain campaign and some Repubs are getting very close to go over the top with their response.Comment Posted By charlie dorfman On 11.09.2008 @ 07:26
Her convention speech was brilliant, but I haven't heard anything new from her since the convention. She's got to show herself to be quick, charming, tough, and, yes, at times brilliant again or the star will fade
Sarah Palin, laughingly to the press, "I've worn plenty of lipstick in my life, but honestly, I don't ever remember being called a pig before now. Let's just assume Mr Obama mispoke, because surely a candidate for the President of the United States of America has more maturity than to digress to playground namecalling. Now do any of you want to talk about something important today? Perhaps we could start by thanking Mr Obama for acknowledging lately that his proposals to raise taxes in the middle of difficult economic times would be a dissaster. First question please."Comment Posted By charlie dorfman On 11.09.2008 @ 07:02
Busboy 33 has linked to a whole lota info. So I click on the DOD FOIA pdf files and open the first one. Busboy mentioned a guy captured while cooking dinner. Are we to infer that anyone cooking dinner must be innocent? This Kazackastani in the first pdf file went with his whole family (which was comprised of 3 siblings and a mother, I believe, to Afghanistan because he heard they would get free food. WTF? At some point they take a PLANE? The Government of Afghanistan then gave him a house and he proceeded to do absolutely nothing but grow vegetables in his little garden. You gotta read it to get the feel for his obtuseness and deceit.Comment Posted By charlie dorfman On 5.08.2008 @ 07:32
Isn't it the case that of the Gitmo detainees released so far about 33% have been re-engaged in acts on and off the battlefield?
These innocent po folk ain't stupid. They know how to play us.
I certainly don't believe in mass torture (Saddam Hussein style) either. The term must be defined before I even know what exactly the discussion is about. I also believe, however, that certain situations and individuals require an all rules are off attitude. We are at war and I will not judge those fighting on our behalf.
Subject: We are committing suicide
The world currently consumes 87 million barrels of oil per day and produces 85 million barrels per day. The U.S. dollar is very weak which makes oil even more expensive on the world market and futures speculators are driving the price even higher yet.
This magnificent country is blessed with tremendous natural resources. We have an estimated 1 trillion barrels of oil in the form of oil shale, 70% of which is on federal land, on the western slopes in Colorado,Utah, and Wyoming. We have oil in Alaska and off of our southern and western coasts. If we add all of this together, we have 5 times the known reserves of Saudi Arabia. At the current rate of use, these potential reserves could last us 200-400 years. We have some of the world’s largest coal deposits. There are technologies to liquefy coal and burn it cleanly with minimal effect on our environment.
I love this planet and wish to keep it as clean and beautiful as possible. But without energy, the Human Race will expire. I don’t wish to live in a cave. And without the Human Race, I personally don’t see much value in the Planet Earth.
And yet our Congress has placed every impediment possible to our extracting our needed energy from our own resources. To what end are we allowing our “Masters” to subvert our lives and our country? How many trillions of dollars a year must we continue to send to people and governments who hate and wish to ultimately destroy us? It is not too late. We must start now.
