It is amazing to me how people can be so ignorant of simple economics.
"simple" economics? ahahahahaha
good one!Comment Posted By brooks On 22.01.2010 @ 16:01
pardon me while i pick up my jaw from the floor! thanks for continuing to be a voice of reason, rick.Comment Posted By brooks On 22.01.2010 @ 12:58
i agree with Ken Girard: given as horrendous a foe as hitler and the axis powers, i think even today's americans would stand up and show their mettle. (yes, as Liberty60 says, the US populace took some time gearing up for the confrontation; but i think it's fair to say that we're much less isolationist since those days.)
Steve, i think your comment woulda worked better circa 2001-2008, when the whole executive branch decided that they could defy federal law and the constitution itsel itself in order to "protect" the constitution. tell me that makes sense. sheesh.
otherwise, if you are somehow referring to the present administration, i defy you to mention any actual acts of "treason" committed by Obama. no conspiracy theories allowed, no guessing at any supposed ulterior motives-- just verifiable records, please! (note, you not liking something doesn't make it treasonous.)
and, you suggest, everyone but the far right is responsible for this "rot"? how fortunate that you are one of the elect, chosen to spread the Gospel Truth! keep workin' on that christ complex, man. wow. (speaking of rot, maybe it's time to dust off those frontal lobes, tiger.)Comment Posted By brooks On 20.11.2009 @ 21:00
i'm not sure who's hinges are ungripped or whatever, given my own hinges require constant maintenance. i do believe that sarah palin is one of the most vacuous and reality-challenged of the current GOP faves; but as you say, that is, in politics, often more a matter of degree than kind.
as much as i like to read sullivan and as much as i appreciate his candor (also part of what makes me a fan of RWNH) i so wish he'd leave off the Palin saga. does she really deserve the attention? i think not.Comment Posted By brooks On 19.11.2009 @ 19:49
nail on head. thanks, rick.Comment Posted By brooks On 12.11.2009 @ 11:31
riiight, Geoff, because the government should never ever take the lead in funding infrastructure, except for interstate highways, and the transcontinental railroad, and the internet, and Morse's telegraph, etc, etc, etc.
let's face it-- the government does serve some useful purposes, and sometimes giving private industry a kick in the pants is one of them. it's not exactly outrageous or unprecedented.Comment Posted By brooks On 24.10.2009 @ 12:25
funny, funny, funny. also a little sad! but funny.Comment Posted By brooks On 9.10.2009 @ 20:15

aw, that's swell-- they give him an "A" for effort! if only watson & crick had known that all they had to do was try super-hard to identify the DNA molecule, and that the identification itself was not even necessary, maybe they wouldn't have had to work quite so hard! really, if this isn't the very definition of bar-lowering, i don't know what is.
"I didn't compare his critics to terrorists, I said they had the same reaction."
okay, i don't like their tone either, but still: call me crazy, this just looks an awful lot like a comparison to me. just sayin'.
blockquote>You have to be brain dead not to realize that Obama doesn't give a damn about preserving our Union, he's actively out to destroy it.
and to speak of the devil, daman, who assuredly is personally well-acquainted with the condition of brain death, decides to bring the crazy after all. and some people wonder why the left thinks you guys are nuts? good lord preserve us!Comment Posted By brooks On 9.10.2009 @ 13:58
yes, some righties are hung up on the failed olympic bid (and really, folks-- get over it already). yes, some lefties (coughToddcough) are ready to compare critics of their fave new prez with terrorists at the slightest provocation. so what's new?
but the rest of us - and i hope, most of us here in the real world - are with michael reynolds and rick who are wondering why obama got the nobel for achievements as yet to be accomplished. wtf?Comment Posted By brooks On 9.10.2009 @ 10:42
