DISSENT IN THE AGE OF OBAMA

As a democrat (i.e. an atheist, socialist, America hating, terrorist sympathizer with a religion that you don't like) it's fairly bizarre to see the flag waving, my-country-right-or-wrong conservatives suddenly crying the world's ending because their candidate didn't win. Suddenly it's not "my country right or wrong" anymore. No, now they're the embattled freedom fighters. Fighting to make sure that the next presidential is even more about God, guns and gays than this one.
Please.
Keep it up guys, and thanks for ensuring that Obama is re-elected in 4 years.

IF ELECTED, OBAMA WILL BE MY PRESIDENT

While admirable in a detached, academic way, this sentiment neglect the reality of what we face.

It is 1932 all over again. A socialist cloud is about to fall over this nation that, like the one that fell in 1932, will not lift again for another fifty years. For a lot of us that means in our lifetimes.

The advice of this column is the advice given and taken by the Gerald Ford Republicans of the 1940's 50's, 60's and 70's. Go along. Know that at best you are fighting a futile rearguard action. Stand by in astonishment with your thumb in your ear when in 2040 a new Reagan emerges.

If Obama wins, he will be the most left-leaning leader of the G8, with the possible exception of Putin. (Putin seems to have transcended the left-right continuum of late.) So, I suppose any of those countries might well offer a better choice than Obama's America:

"If Obama is elected in November, at G7 meetings, for the first time since they began, America will have a more left-wing leader than any other member of the group - Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and Britain (and that's before Gordon Brown loses to David Cameron). Right-of-center government throughout the western world - except Washington.

And, if you say, "Hang on, isn't it the G8? What about Russia?", I'm not sure whether Putin and his stooge still regard themselves as socialists, but, if so, for good or ill, it's certainly of a more muscular variety than Obama's...."

This "let's be better than them" attitude is all very well in the absract but it neglects the first rule of gun fighting:

Bring a gun.

You recognize well yourself that those on the other side play by a completely different set of rules. Sadly, history teaches us that this lowers the bar for all but the lower bar is a reality we must adjust to if we are to be competitive.

HERE'S TO A SAFE, TERROR FREE, OLYMPICS THAT'S A SPECTACULAR FAILURE

Rick,

You are right on the money with this post. I've had the same "hopes" and questions over the course of the last 6 or so months, and I suspect many of your other readers have as well.

ON BEING CALLED A 'RACIST'

The liberal/left have made enormous political capital on race and racism. As long as it continues to work, they will continue to use.

McCAIN IS TOO OLD TO BE PRESIDENT

"Anyone care to revisit how our lefty friends see the war in Iraq? That it is unwinnable?"

Rick -- I seem to remember you saying the same thing a year or so ago.

You are correct. No excuses except to say that I thought even if we got the best case scenario that it would ever be seen as victory. That may still hold.

Been nerving up the courage to write something about my views then and now - maybe this weekend when I have some time to get into it.

WHEN WILL OBAMA RESPOND TO 'APPEASEMENT' CHARGE?

in response to "Bush didn’t specifically name anyone in his “appeasement” remarks"

Oh yes he did. Who else in todays world has been talking about sitting down and negotiating with Iran? Bush was directly speaking of Obama and you all know it. All Bush has been doing is attacking and look where we are 8 years later, high gas prices, housing foreclosures, many many popular retail stores are moving over seas and hurting are US malls thanks to Bush. I hope Bush spends the rest of his life behind bars for treason. He sold out America.

FRED THOMPSON: THE MAN, THE MOMENT, THE MESS

Great insightful piece ..... I am a Fred supporter ^_^

The plus for Thompson, which will likely paper over some of the inevitable rough spots early on, is the base sees no other candidate as electable, qualified and Conservative. I will give Fred until October to shake it out.

It's nice that the left shows what line they are going to welcome Thompson with. Won't work, Thompson is no Clark and will prove it in the first few weeks after he announces.
