IT'S PAST TIME TO INOCULATE CONSERVATISM AGAINST THE BIRTHERS

Over at Red State there is a 200 plus comment thread on this subject and it is hilarious....the article was posted by one of the directors(?) who wants to put an end to this non-sense. A few of the regular contributors are birthers, the funny part is watching the rational posters try to reason with thier friends only to meet with non-stop crazy arguments.

THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE

Your site is one of the few on the right actually taking the stance of what happened did in fact break the law. The thing that bothers me most about this discussion is the inevitable argument about what are enemies do to our troops...In no way do I ever want our country or our armed forces compared to the actions of the Taliban / Saddam Hussein but when the legality of the torture argument fails eventually it becomes "Do you know what THEY would do to our troops? Yes I do and something tells me that even if we followed the Geneva conventions to the letter our troops would still be treated awful.

Please note that other conservative sites are getting blasted by their readers for merely using the word torture in the title, so don’t be surprised if someone demands you put torture in quotes.

Thank you for posting this...

REFLECTIONS ON GOD, MAN, AND CPAC

@jazplyr - You forgot to add "You damn kids, GET OFF MY LAWN!!!" When I read lines like "we are in the latter stages of a great controversy between Christ and Satan and, it’s been raging for over 6000 years" it fills my Atheist Democrat heart with joy...you will only win over young people who were already brain-washed fundies....sometimes I think there may be a God and He helped destroy the Republican party by forever tying them to the Christian Right.

SPINNING THE LIGHT FANTASTIC

You seem to be one of the few blogs on the right saying this; taking a look around the righty blog sphere this morning the headlines run the gamut from 'The race is tightening!' to 'Ignore all poles because they favor Democrats'...and as the first poster says, in seven days it will be done and we will have a winner (and loser). If Obama does win next Tuesday what will these folks denying the polls say?

I moved to PA a few years ago and could not be happier living in a swing state; my vote could actually make a difference.

IS JOE THE PLUMBER FAIR GAME?

"I don’t know what information the righty blogs and media would be digging up and plastering all over the net if McCain had responded to a question by Joe on the economy and made some stupid statement in response"...really? I seem to remember the right having no issue with digging into (harassing) the Schiavo family or the family of Graeme Frost.

Can't you people ever - just once - take yes for an answer? Or is it that what I am trying to say just flies over your head with the greatest of ease?

And why did you cut off the quote right before I got to the part admitting that the right would be doing the same thing? Even with the copy in front of you, you try to take my words out of context.

Sheesh!

ed.

SOME CUTESY OBSERVATIONS ON THE COMING APOCALYPSE

Commenter #17 wins the "Blame this mess on the Democrats contest"...going all the way back to Carter? Also, I hear those poor bankers had guns held to their heads when signing the loan papers for poor people.

OBAMA SUPPORTERS UNDERCUT CANDIDATE'S CRITIQUE OF MCCAIN

Everything I know about Alaska comes from the show Northern Exposure; so my question is does Sarah Palin have one of those little head lights they wear during the dark months?

As I posted before, I think Ms. Palin was chosen to reignite the culture wars. When in danger of losing an election based on the issues (or the unpopularity of your party) the right knows it can whip the base up into a frenzy with wedge issues. No matter how unrealistic a prospect of overturning Roe v Wade (or for that matter gay marriage becoming legal in every state) the social conservatives need only hear the mention of either issue and the folks in power on the right know they have rallied the base (something that alone McCain was not doing).

I wish someone would call this woman out on her crazy views with regard to Creationism; you can’t teach it both ways either the world is 6000 years old or not. And birth control – the abstinence only policy makes me wonder if any of these folks were ever teenagers.

NOT MY VALUES

Rick I share your opinion about the Family Research Council and Value Voters BUT are you really that shocked by them? Palin was added to the ticket to energize the base which is code for fire of the social conservatives and reignite the culture wars.

And to all those here says being gay is a choice...then why would conservatives guys (think Larry Craig and Ted Haggard) with the most to lose still troll mens bathrooms and hire male prostitutes? If it is a choice then why engage in such destructive (in conservatives eyes) behavior?

I long for the day when the authoritarian Jesus freaks are kicked out of the big tent so I can be a Republican again.

McCAIN'S DISAVOWAL OF HAGEE A GOOD SIGN

Even though I do not support McCain I hope his campaign does not get hurt by distancing himself from these extremists. I agree that the last two election cycles men like Hagee became more acceptable to the mainstream which is just freighting when you actually listen to what they have to say.

@syn - I think it is possible to support Israel without having to include an end times scenario...why must economic and military support have to include the rapture? Also, men like Hagee don’t love Israel and Jews so much as they want to see the world end (and all the Jews that refuse to convert be killed).

PROGRESS IN IRAQ A TOUGH SELL FOR PETREAUS

I don't believe Al-Sadr is going away anytime soon because Iran realizes his value which means they will keep funneling money and arms to his militia. He doesn't even need to beat us (or the Iraq army) to win; create violence and destabilization (even temporary) which in turn is picked up by the press as evidence of our inability to control the situation and pull back with another cease fire. While he is not actually winning, this pattern will wear down the American people who I doubt will tolerate another 5 years of 150k troops deployed overseas. The sad part is given enough time we can win but does anyone think the American public is willing to tough out another 5 years of occupation that will potentially costs us a trillion dollars? Our enemies know this so all they have to do is bleed us slowly.
