DEALERGATE: STATISTICAL COINCIDENCE OR POLITICAL BIAS? (IMPORTANT UPDATE BELOW)

If there's any evidence whatsoever that the White House was in any way involved in deciding what to close, fine, I'm willing to look at it. But so far it's just like those people claiming that breast implants cause cancer, etc.

Also, the real issue is not whether or not the dealerships are profitable. It's pretty safe to assume that any dealership that is open is profitable, because if it were not, it would have gone out of business.

From Chrysler's standpoint, the issue is: does closing dealership ABC hurt my bottom line or help my bottom line. Due to many factors, that is not directly related to whether or not the dealership is itself profitable.

OBAMA OUTFLANKS GOP WITH SOTOMAYOR PICK

I don't think the folks "out here in the world" are as enamored with identity politics as political bloggers and media types think they are. Sure, any misstep by the GOP will be reported by the MSM as a "racial attack" on the nominee, and given the dem's numbers in Congress, this will go through quite easily, but most voters will see it for what it is: Obama chose the Hispanic chick because she's…Hispanic. Most people have grown weary of the "first (fill in the race)" to fill this or that position narrative. Maybe it was all used up on the Obama candidacy, but now it just sounds old and cliché, boring even, and it makes Obama look like a standard issue lefty democrat fillin' slots by skin color, not a "post-racial" president. The mere fact of his presidency makes this kind of racial pandering seem silly and outdated. Kind of ironic, eh?

NOT SOCIALISM: GANGSTERISM

There are plenty of actual criticisms to be made of Obama, but this one is just silly. It's well known and understood that Chrysler and GM would like nothing more than to get rid of a lot of dealers, but have had trouble doing so due to many state laws that are very much anti-free-market.

US DECLARES HEALTH EMERGENCY WHILE OBAMA GOLFS

The teleprompter will be just fine. No one is going to ask Obama any tough questions at a press conference designed to CELEBRATE his 100 days of achievement or what not. This isn't a time to ask serious questions; it's a time to allow The Narcissistic One to preen while his media lapdogs gratuitously fawn over him. The questions will be known in advance. The questioners will know they're going to be picked in advance (hence the questions having already been vetted by the White House). Good grief. No one actually believes this is a legitimate press conference, do they?

It'll go something like this:

"Mr. President. Some of your critics have said that your Health and Human Services Department might not be up to the job of handling a flu epidemic as it has no director. Tell us what you're doing to make sure the country is spared the worst of this flu? And as a follow-up, tell us how Universal Health Care will ensure that epidemics like this are contained in the future."

"Mr. President. Some of your more vocal critics such as Fox News suggested it was irresponsible for you to go golfing in the midst of this potential health crisis. Can you explain how you were in constant contact with your health department staff during that time and describe the lengthy and complete briefings you received?"

"Mr. President. As your administration reaches its first 100 days, what are you most proud of: the fact that you played hardball with the greedy auto companies, the fact that you told the greedy bankers they weren't getting anymore greedy fat-cat bonuses, or the fact that other nations love us again because you're the president?"

THE CONSERVATIVE CASE FOR GAY MARRIAGE

It seems to me if Conservatives jumped on board the "civil unions" bandwagon, or some other such thing that allows gay couples all of the legal rights of married couples, the "gay marriage" issue would be blunted. It is a conundrum, though, isn't it? It'll certainly alienate the socials cons. Can their numbers be made up via young voters? Who knows.

ENEMIES OF THE STATE

Extremism now defined by federal law enforcement as outspoken opposition to any of Barack Obama's policy positions. Now, since we've all been admonished by our betters in the conservative movement to keep our opposition to Obama as "loyal opposition," how does one oppose having one's point of view potentially criminalized, while simultaneously remaining loyal to those who seek to criminalize it?

OLIVER WILLIS: IRRATIONAL CERTAINTY

The problem I have with your analysis, along with that of some others like Charles at LGF, is that you seem to be operating under a pollyannic notion that rational, reasonable, articulate, policy-oriented conservatives will be treated by the media and the democrat party as…well, rational, reasonable, articulate, policy-oriented conservatives. Whatever one thought of President George W. Bush, he wasn't an ignorant, lying, murdering, Constitution-shredding despot, but that is precisely how he was treated — by the media, and by the LEADERS of the democrat party, along with its most fringe elements. For that matter, one of our most reasoned, articulate, intelligent conservative voices is Vice President Dick Cheney — and look how far all that reasonableness got him? Which rational conservative voice is being listened to these days? None. And it isn't because they're being drowned out by Beck and Limbaugh and the others. If not for those guys, Obama would be governing with virtually no opposition whatsoever. No watchdog media. No thoughtful conservative voices who get any airtime at all unless they're cheer-leading for Obama. There isn't a man or woman alive who could rise to the top as a "face of" the conservative point of view who — if he or she fundamentally disagreed with the democrat/media perspective — wouldn't be viciously vilified. That is what the left does. They "pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it." I don't care how "reasonable" your arguments are for another way, if you disagree with these people, they will seek to destroy you, and by the time they're done, you are a caricatured version of yourself and your message, whatever it was, is lost.

So Beck, et al, are over the top. So what? If they weren't, and were simply quietly disagreeing with President Obama on a daily basis, they'd be treated with hysterical disdain and character assassination anyway. If their hyperbole and schtick make people sit up and take notice of the hard turn left this country is about to take, isn't that worth something? I'm perfectly happy to let them be the lightening rods for the left's smear campaigns and politics of personal destruction while more and more American citizens quietly begin to pay attention. Perhaps when a leader does emerge, the left will be so busy demonizing Beck, Limbaugh, Coulter, etc., that they won't notice the new guy (or gal) until it's too late.

JINDAL IS NOT THE ANSWER

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR....

Rick, HOW DARE YOU!! How DARE YOU relegate thinking conservatives to mindless jobs like we are IDIOTS!!!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR....

Mutiny on your hands... because how dare you blatantly run a Communist Russian line on this conservative?? How dare you do communist propaganda on ME... as I read your blog??

How dare you presume to question the intelligence of your very readers who believe in God??

How dare you??

I think you better think again before going there again.

I think you better back that train up... FAST.

Rick,

I don't know where you get YOUR facts... but there are plenty of facts supporting Creationism. What you may not realize is that in Russia as the plotters sought to advance socialism/communism... they launched a very pointed attack on Creationism to gain power over the people to break their faith in God... so they could launch the "Red Revolution".

What?? You really think there is no God?? Well, no wonder this nation is going the way of Russia into communism.

I guess you aren't really thinking if you don't realize that breaking faith in God in Creation is the #1 Goal of communist/socialist overthrow of our Constitution and bill of rights and DOI.

What are you talking about?? And what are you thinking?

I don't know that I can read blogs once I hear that you have ZERO respect for God and creation.

Anyone who believes the earth is 6,000 years old belongs in a mental institution. Anyone who thinks men walked the earth with dinosaurs ditto. And if you didn't know I was an atheist by now then I question your reading comprehension as well.

ed.

The Scare Mongers Have Reason To Fear

As posted on Moonbattery.com and from Scott Thong's blog:

The UN global warming conference currently underway in Poland is about to face a serious challenge from over 650 dissenting scientists from around the globe who are criticizing the climate claims made by the UN IPCC and former Vice President Al Gore. Set for release this week, a newly updated U.S. Senate Minority Report features the dissenting voices of over 650 international scientists, many current and former UN IPCC scientists, who have now turned against the UN. The report has added about 250 scientists (and growing) in 2008 to the over 400 scientists who spoke out in 2007. The over 650 dissenting scientists are more than 12 times the number of UN scientists (52) who authored the media hyped IPCC 2007 Summary for Policymakers.

A few highlights from the minority report:

"I am a skeptic…Global warming has become a new religion.” - Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Ivar Giaever.

“Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization nor receiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly….As a scientist I remain skeptical.” - Atmospheric Scientist Dr. Joanne Simpson, the first woman in the world to receive a PhD in meteorology and formerly of NASA who has authored more than 190 studies and has been called “among the most preeminent scientists of the last 100 years.”

"Warming fears are the “worst scientific scandal in the history…When people come to know what the truth is, they will feel deceived by science and scientists.” - UN IPCC Japanese Scientist Dr. Kiminori Itoh, an award-winning PhD environmental physical chemist.

“The IPCC has actually become a closed circuit; it doesn’t listen to others. It doesn’t have open minds… I am really amazed that the Nobel Peace Prize has been given on scientifically incorrect conclusions by people who are not geologists,” - Indian geologist Dr. Arun D. Ahluwalia at Punjab University and a board member of the UN-supported International Year of the Planet.

“The models and forecasts of the UN IPCC “are incorrect because they only are based on mathematical models and presented results at scenarios that do not include, for example, solar activity.” - Victor Manuel Velasco Herrera, a researcher at the Institute of Geophysics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico

“It is a blatant lie put forth in the media that makes it seem there is only a fringe of scientists who don’t buy into anthropogenic global warming.” - U.S Government Atmospheric Scientist Stanley B. Goldenberg of the Hurricane Research Division of NOAA.

“Even doubling or tripling the amount of carbon dioxide will virtually have little impact, as water vapour and water condensed on particles as clouds dominate the worldwide scene and always will.” – . Geoffrey G. Duffy, a professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering of the University of Auckland, NZ.

“After reading [UN IPCC chairman] Pachauri’s asinine comment [comparing skeptics to] Flat Earthers, it’s hard to remain quiet.” - Climate statistician Dr. William M. Briggs, who specializes in the statistics of forecast evaluation, serves on the American Meteorological Society’s Probability and Statistics Committee and is an Associate Editor of Monthly Weather Review.

“For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming? For how many years must cooling go on?” - Geologist Dr. David Gee the chairman of the science committee of the 2008 International Geological Congress who has authored 130 plus peer reviewed papers, and is currently at Uppsala University in Sweden.

“Gore prompted me to start delving into the science again and I quickly found myself solidly in the skeptic camp…Climate models can at best be useful for explaining climate changes after the fact.” - Meteorologist Hajo Smit of Holland, who reversed his belief in man-made warming to become a skeptic, is a former member of the Dutch UN IPCC committee.

“Many [scientists] are now searching for a way to back out quietly (from promoting warming fears), without having their professional careers ruined.” - Atmospheric physicist James A. Peden, formerly of the Space Research and Coordination Center in Pittsburgh.

“Creating an ideology pegged to carbon dioxide is a dangerous nonsense…The present alarm on climate change is an instrument of social control, a pretext for major businesses and political battle. It became an ideology, which is concerning.” - Environmental Scientist Professor Delgado Domingos of Portugal, the founder of the Numerical Weather Forecast group, has more than 150 published articles.

“CO2 emissions make absolutely no difference one way or another….Every scientist knows this, but it doesn’t pay to say so…Global warming, as a political vehicle, keeps Europeans in the driver’s seat and developing nations walking barefoot.” - Dr. Takeda Kunihiko, vice-chancellor of the Institute of Science and Technology Research at Chubu University in Japan.

“The [global warming] scaremongering has its justification in the fact that it is something that generates funds.” - Award-winning Paleontologist Dr. Eduardo Tonni, of the Committee for Scientific Research in Buenos Aires and head of the Paleontology Department at the University of La Plata.

[EagleEye: I find it hard to believe what Gore and my biology lab assistants were saying concerning the fact that 99% of scientists agree... these 650 fellows and ladies are a small part of the 33,000 who have expressed their skepticism.]
