"If Obama is elected president I will find me another country to live in."
To any readers who share this sentiment: don't let the screen door hit ya on the way out.Comment Posted By Winston Smith On 25.02.2008 @ 18:03
Thank you, Rick.
If Senator Obama is the Democratic nominee, then let him be defeated because the Republican is better suited to lead the country, not because of fake scandals.
If we support the mixing of ignorance and politics when it seems convenient, we, as a nation, will get what we deserve -- a government for suckers.Comment Posted By Winston Smith On 25.02.2008 @ 11:46
"if your wife was deathly ill and you were speeding to get her to the hospital, that would certainly be illegal. Would you do it anyway?"
Of course. But I wouldn't claim that speeding is "legal if you really need to do it." I would also pay the fine... which brings up another point: this law is more serious than speeding.
It's more like this: you're wife is dying and nees a liver. Her brother is the only know potential donor. Do you kill him and take his liver?

"intercept terrorist phone calls from overseas to their friends in America."
That's never been illegal. Evesdropping on purely domestic calls without a warrant is illegal. The president has admitted that his administration has done this. I can't give you anymore details because the remaining details are secret.
Here's an FYI: secret illegal programs are still illegal.

Our occupation of Iraq is in gross violation of the Geneva conventions, which is why the war supporters have vociferously argued that we are not an occupying force, but a "liberating force." The line has been, "We'll leave when they ask us to leave."
What is the line now, "We'll leave when the ask us to leave, unless we don't want to... but we're not occupying the country!"
Sheesh.Comment Posted By Winston Smith On 3.08.2006 @ 11:24
In 1950 the junior senator from Wisconsin, Joe McCarthy made outrageous, hurtful, mean-spirited and factually incorrect allegations against those that neither deserved the attack nor had the pulpit and means to respond. Sound familiar? Hasn't Coulter done the same to the spouses of those murdered on 9/11? I know internet blogs are rough and tumble, but we who abhor Coulter's methods, if not the substance, of her attacks do a disservice to those who are attacked by lowering our rhetoric to Coulter's level. This is how Special Counsel Joseph Welch dealt with McCarthy's typical character assassination of a young lawyer who McCarthy claimed was a Communist because he had defended Communists as a member of the Lawyers Guild: “It is, I regret to say, equally true that I fear he shall always bear a scar needlessly inflicted by you. If it were in my power to forgive you for your reckless cruelty, I will do so. I like to think I am a gentleman, but your forgiveness will have to come from someone other than me." "...Let us not assassinate this lad further, Senator. You have done enough. Have you no sense of decency sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?" One could ask the same thing of Ann Coulter.Comment Posted By Winston Smith On 8.06.2006 @ 11:03
