I am not a proponent for illegal alien amnesty either. I was watching FNC this morning and they reported that over 90% of the emails they were receiving was extremely negative about this bi-partison/White House agreeing legislation.
As I was thinking about that (mind you I have not read any details) my thought was maybe it would be better to legitimize illegal aliens that are working for a living. I say this for Fox News said before any variant of the word amnesty the politicians are using, security measures must be implimented before hand to slow or prevent further influx of illegal aliens.
So again I say I am not a fan of amnesty; however a rare statesman like compromise may make liberals and conservative happier with the end in mind.

I actually suspect the Bush Administration hopes the Israelis will take the lead in any military adverturism in Iran.
There will still be political backlash from the Dems, however they would not be able to point the direct finger at Bush.
Under these circumstances it would be like Bush saying to Israel, "I got your six."
The thing is Publicly I do not think Bush would act like he has Israel's back. I do think Bush would involve the US in any Iranian counterattack (I hope).

So do criminal investigations proceed in nations that operate under a Parliamentary system? Is the Head of Government made to stand aside as the investigation proceeds or does he remain the head of the government?

He should have resigned in 2000 because new vision was and is needed to win the war in Iraq. I suspect Bush kept Rummy until after the election to see how many Republicans diminished in office. There is no way Rummy could operate as Secretary of Defense with a Democratic Party Congress.

America has little choice to attempt to strengthen the hand of Musharraf. Even duplicitous aid on the War on Terror is better than the alternative.
However we must remember when the end of the day comes Musharraf is a military dictator. Pakistani's are really Mohammedan Indians. The Pakistanis have to know that their multi-cultural cousins - India - is a democracy.
The Mohammedan Pakistanis hate America and Israel as much as any Mohammedan does. I strongly suspect continued assasination attempts are in Musharraf's future. When one succeeds, undoubtedly the next leader will not be as willing to help America.

My greatest concern is not that the Conservatives will stay home, rather they will vote 3rd Party in a display of displeasure. That too will hand American government to the Democrats. That is part of what happened to Bush I - Ross Perot.

The Cia has to be totally revamped or disbanded. An intelligence agency or network must have an agenda that (1) reflects American interests and (2) loyal to the agenda of Presidential Administration elected to the Presidency. There must be a military form of discipline involved by their employees with the complete understanding the President is the Chief Executive. There must be a check and balance reflecting the Pattern of the Costitution to avoid misuse politically. Maybe some sort of Oversight Commission appointed to terms of finite time periods. The Commission would be a watch dog to the Intelligence Community and Presidential Administration directives. That Commission should then alert a pre-determined body (i.e. Congress, Law enforcement, etc) for potential hazards or breaches of protocols.

I wonder if there is a possibility that a rebellious minded Iranian might have had anything with the attempt on Ahmadinejad. I have been reading Iranian blogs (risky stuff there)who do not like the mullahs tight grip.
I marvel at those people (especially conservatives) who are upset that civil rights have been violated in a time of war. My God wake up! Just because there is not an actual nation to declare war on do not delude yourself into thinking the Islamofascists do not want to hit the Home of the free and the brave. The terrorists will take their opportunity especially now that the Patriot Act has been stalled by a filibuster.
