A SMALL RAY OF HOPE IN IRAQ

Rick,

Good post. But the civilian casualty numbers for March are wrong. "Wrong?" Well, the Brookings data does not match Iraq Body Count nor Iraq Coalition Casualties (probably sourced from IBC).

I looked at the Brookings data briefly and it seemed to leave an 'out' about incomplete March data. The '446' is quite an understatement.

I almost emailed Reynolds, but don't have the time/stomach for this kind of clarification effort. If you want to take this on, have it at it.

(I like our side to be accurate, that's all.)

ANOTHER PERPLEXING BUSH APPOINTMENT

Me and St. Augustine.

"The world was created in seven days."
True or false?

"The world is flat."
True or false?

A person is entitled to believe whatever they want and to answer those questions anyway they want.

But, kiddies, we live in the real world, where many things have been established as fact.

The President can find better appointees to high office than people who believe in fairy tales.

These commenters try to make Rick sound like some sort of anti-religious bigot. Perhaps they should ponder the wisdom of St. Augustine and the Catholic bishops of the UK.

A PERSONAL TIPPING POINT

Rick,

You're way ahead of me on this. When I get back from vacation, I'm going to learn more about this. I've been willing to give the admin and the military leadership a passs on the torture question, but when you and Cole are both hollering bullsh*t, then I gotta believe there's an issue.

I won't bug you with another invite, but ... but ... but .. if you keep being this impartial, you're going to have to change the name of the blog. :)

Cheers.

DEAR MR. PRESIDENT: SHUT YOUR YAP!

Jazz,

What is a theory? Maybe you think it means "a plausible idea, but not yet fact?" Wrong.

A scientific theory is an organized set of ideas and concepts that explains observed facts. Relativity, Gravity, and Evolution are examples of theories. How about plate tectonics? Just a theory? Maybe continents don't move because they are plates floating on the mantle, but because God wants them to.

And none of this depends on, nor relates to 'what happened before the Big Bang.'

LIFE, DEATH, AND TERRI SCHIAVO

Very thoughtful and well-written. The politicizing of it, the "making a Federal case out it" (literally), made me ill, too. I blew up when Congress intervened. Beth summarized well the feeling of many who might have felt that their honest views got hijacked.

My own views have been expressed well enough by the bloggers I linked to: Bill Ardolino, John Cole, Andy WWR.

It is a very, very sad case. In most tragic circumstances like this, the family resolves it within the family members themselves. In this case, even more tragically, because the family members didn't agree the Florida state courts got involved for 7 years (or whatever). IMHO, that was far enough. If there was ever a time for us to think about what matters are best left at a local level, this was it. Politicizing it Federally really bothered me.

(Because you asked.)

Thanks

NEVER DISRESPECT A BARBARIAN

You got your spot, at the head of the wingnut hordes. :)

The idle threat of the Knutehousen barbarian hordes worry us not. Have you forgotten the canine mercenaries of Dual Doge? The mighty suid-warriors of Pigilito? The big dicks of INDC? The cruel (and all the more so for their strangeness) Llamas?

Besides, so far King Moonbat of ISOU and King Joe the Moderate have not even sounded their alarums yet.

You know what The Coalition says of the Knutehousens? "Bring 'em on!"
