A DECLARATION OF (SEMI-AUTONOMOUS) INDEPENDENCE (SORT OF)

"How much abuse can our soldiers take from the incompetent political class before they just say no?"

And yet soldiers keep re-enlisting and civilians keep signing up. I'd wonder why except I can look to my own career and I can't seem to remember much about being at the docks of San Diego, Pearl or Subic Bay. But I remember vividly the days on Al Masirah island and supporting our carrier group.

It's the sense of purpose that a corporate job just can't match.

"Bush’s first term was dynamic, but after the 04 election it was as if he was trying to prove that he was as idiotic as the far lefties claimed he was"

Partially privatizing social security was idiotic? I missed that memo. Of course, what do I know about financial matters compared to a Barbara Stresiand, a Bill Maher or a John Kerry? It's not like I have an MBA and graduate level economic courses in my background? Or worked in gov't and private sector finance for 20 years?

I agree with much of what you've written, Rick, but some is a little unfair (we elected a guy that was not a great orator - was that really a surprise to anyone? or were we to expect a man in his 50s was going to sprout new talents?). Though I wouldn't go as far as Sirius, who makes substantive points, but really that just means a list of excuses. Failed with a reason is worse than just failing. Not only are you a failure but you are also an excuse maker.

SURPRISING RESTRAINT FROM THE LEFT

This could be good. Pelosi and the Dems ran on uniting the country, now they have to deliver. Bush's first act of unity was the education bill. He wanted testing, charter schools and money for charter schools. As a uniter, he accepted testing, no charter schools, no charter school money but money for improving test scores. He got 1 out of 3 and picked up 1 from the Dems.

Let's see if the Dems practice what they preach....ah, hell, we all know that the Dems will do nothing like what Bush did. Who needs unity when you're so damn smart you just know you're right?

KERRY: AS COLD AS THEY COME

"Someone who isn’t a good student and doesn’t go to college has a much greater chance of choosing military service over other options than a good student. Are you all denying that?"

Maybe true, maybe not. What facts did you use to come to your conclusion? The kids around your neighborhood? If so, you may have a future in political polling.

But if folks in the military are so dumb what does that say about the civilian population: 94% of the military has at least a high school diploma vs 89% of the general population. And that understates it because the 6% without diplomas have to make some sort of case to have the requirement waived. This isn't typical I'm sure but in my Navy days I knew an operations guy without a diploma that aced the ASVABs - he was a genius that flunked out of high school, why I don't know.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Republicans have just taken October surprises in the teeth election cycle after election cycle. I'm not sure why the Republicans would want to follow the Dems in this apparently losing strategy.

That said, what is the choice? With the Dems launching these attacks and MSM amplifying and milking them as long as they possibly can, no response will disillusion the base. Consider the attacks on Bush. He has generally held his powder in the face of accusations of lying and fascism, only joining the fray at election time. The consequences of holding fire has been MSM broadsides that have withered his popularity. Accusations without response will do that.

INSULTING THE EXPLOITED

Limbaugh went too far when he speculated that Fox may have gone off his meds for the commerical or, worse, acted. HOWEVER, if he's correct that in Fox's book he admitted to skipping meds before testifying to Congress then Fox has a history of deception.....which only goes as far as Fox should be asked if he's still going off meds in order to make his political appearances more impactful.

I know when I'm being manipulated (or someone is attempting to manipulate me) by celebrity, sexuality etc. The degree of manipulation is no less if Fox is punching up his appearances and far worse there is no way to tell if this is going on. If he wants to enter the political arena, fine, but I think he has some splaining to do.

KENNEDY AND OTHER LIBERALS ANSWER TO A DIFFERENT MORALITY

What's truly funny is that some people seem to think Teddy is even going to be asked about it. It's not like he missed an air reserve meeting in Alabama or anything. Besides, the press is too busy DNA swabbing Mark Foley. He's one of them homeosexuals, don't you know.

APPALLING DISHONESTY FROM OLBERMAN

Olberman is comedy gold and proof that it's not the facts that substantiate a charge that is important but the seriousness of the charge (ripping off someone else's idea of course). But when you already have the dial up to 11, how do you explain your appearance night after night when an administration "without conscience" would have Olby wisked away in the middle of the night?

At what point do the viewers (plural, I double checked) figure out that instead of dodging 'the man' Olby IS 'the man', feeding dim lefties sweets and pudding so they stay on the plantation in the wake of election loss after election loss?

CLINTON VS FOX: THE FALLOUT

"If you do like him, he kicked butt"

You really think so? I ask this because I am a Clinton fan (and a Bush fan) and I thought he melted down and lapsed into inappropriate bullying.

But then I see above where you've claimed that Chris Wallace is a tool of the Republican party and I know you've dropped all pretense of objectivity. You do know where he worked prior to Fox and who his Dad is, don't you? Are they (ABC, Mike Wallace) also tools of the Republican party?

QUICK THOUGHTS ON PART II OF P29/11

Shorter Fred Kaplan - if Bush had taken a meeting in August 2001 9/11 would have been prevented. Who's Bill Clinton?
