A FEW WORDS ON THE EFFICACY OF CHANGING ONE'S MIND

Rick, I have to agree with Chuck and Michael about your first opinion being correct, except that the tea parties might serve the useful purpose of bringing out new potential leaders of the Conservative movement. All the rallies and protests that make up the tea parties aren't so much about the cause, they're about developing skillets and enthusiasm that hopefully will take over the GOP from the loonies that now control it. Obama and the Democrats need an honest opposition, not an insane one!

C'MON, AMERICA! SNAP OUT OF IT!

This attitude on the 4th of July is not surprising when the majority of Americans have been in a funk for some time.

PALIN RETREATS

What are the chances of her trying to run for Alaska's solitary House seat in the near future? Being a representative would put her fully in the thick of DC politics as well as give her a platform to spew her agenda. Plus, the necessities of the job would keep her away from Alaska for months at a time, giving Palin plenty of time to start a national campaign. No way she runs for POTUS until 2016 though...

PALIN: THE WAR CONTINUES

Palin is no dummy, that is why I believe she will never run for national office again. She must realize she's too polarizing to win herself, yet she is so popular with the base that she will have influence within the GOP for years to come. She now knows that being a cheerleader of the republican/right wing base that trusts her is far more profitable and less stressful than campaigning nationwide where a majority of the people have little faith in her.

OBAMA FAILS TO STAND UP FOR AMERICAN INTERESTS IN HONDURAS

The entire role of Zelaya seems a little uncertain. I know he had been talking about running for second term of office in defiance of the Hondurian Constitution, but had he actually started to carry out actions towards this end? Perhaps the Army acted too soon; had they waited until Zelaya had showed his anti-democratic credentials more strongly, they could have been rid of him for good. Coups are very serious business, and it is unclear that this one was absolutely needed at this time.

Now the dude has sympathy from all over Latin America. Could it be that Obama is tentatively supporting Zelaya finishing his term, so that we doesn't piss off our newly upset neighbors by supporting a pre-mature coup?

OBAMA'S MEASURED RESPONSE ON IRAN AND THE PENSION CRISIS

Rick, I'm enjoyed your inaugural article at the American Issues Project; you have proposed an interesting solution to the public pension crisis. But would this apply to just public sector workers, or could one switch back and forth between private and public sector jobs and keep adding to their pensions?

As for Iran, I believe the Realist direction is the one to take after so many unproductive years playing the Idealist card with an non-cooperative Iranian regime. However, the painful part of your PJM piece was reading the comments; the majority seem to deny the legitimacy of Realism and instead make up their own "reality" of how they imagine the USA/Iran situation to be. With any luck, Obama may end up with a foreign policy record similar to that of of Bush Sr., which would be a pretty good thing over all.

THE CHICAGO WAY TO DEAL WITH NOSY IG'S

Lets see here, a president, (drunk on power, perhaps) decides to fire people he (apparently) doesn't like for some reason known only to him. Which of our 44 presidents does this NOT describe?

Frankly, this just shows that Obama is quite human when it comes to handling power. (No doubt this won't mean anything to those who call him "the one" or "the messiah"!) Let's see if this event is a harbinger of something worse to come or if its just a blip or the radar...

OH FOR GOD'S SAKE, STOP IT

It’s not hard to tell who’s a right-wing nut and who’s a left-wing nut. The left-wing nuts are the guys who show up at G-7 meetings wearing football helmets and throw rocks through windows. They tend not to be quite as well armed as right-wing nuts.

An excellent distinction between right and left, Pug. Being against the second amendment certainly has its consequences!

BTW, good job Rick on calling out those who would change the facts re: this neo-nazi idiot. The sad part is, it's only a matter of time before someone "on your side" accuses you of being a RINO or CINO for being honest.

WHELAN APOLOGY LEAVES QUESTIONS UNANSWERED ABOUT BLOG COMMENTERS

ChenZhen broke down commentators in their categories rather well. I would only add a possible reason as to why some stay in the #2 slot: because they would like to be a #3 kind of regular, but aren't motivated to start their own blog yet. (A less sympathetic voice would say its because they're too lazy!) Perhaps this discussion will motivate some of us #2's to get our act together...

THE LIGHTWORKER'S MAGIC WORDS BRING DEMOCRACY TO LEBANON

We already abandoned Lebanon once.

Actually, we've abandoned Lebanon before.
