PALIN MAINSTREAMS THE BIRTHERS

We are about to deploy 30000 more troops to Afghanistan, unemployment hovers around 10%, health care is about to be reformed and Iran is stepping up it’s nuclear enrichment program. At the same time thousands worry about a Hawaiian birth certificate??? Is that our political input? Is that what we conservatives stand for? Pleeez.

funny man, you're obviously making too much sense for the average commentator here. The Pro-Palin/Anti-Logic nonsense being spewed at Right Wing Nut House (and at PJ MEdia) is somewhat amusing to myself and Mr. Reynolds, but must be giving Rick and other honest Conservatives heart palpitations. As our nation is going through major changes, they are only interested in re-living yesterday's battles and blindly opposing anything with the President's fingers on it. Clearly, they're not listening to the rational grown-ups and the remainder of the grown-ups are pandering to their worst instincts.

CHARLES JOHNSON'S WORLD

Personal criticisms of CJ aside (which don't help your case), you acknowledge that several of his points may have some merit. Furthermore, the remaining points do have their examples which seem to validate them to a certain degree that fair people can agree to disagree about.

Of course fair people can look at the same facts and draw different conclusions, which seems to be the case here, as you have been a political (and ideological) conservative for most of your life, whereas CJ's life story is quite different. Simply put, is it not possible that somebody of a moderate political persuasion would likely agree with most (if not all) of CJ's 10 points? We all realize that moderate politics aren't what Right Wing Nut House is about, so why assume that CJ was ever conservative? By the man's own admission, LGF had a hands-off policy re: comments for many years, which is now certainly not the case. (Full disclosure: I have been a semi-frequent commentator on LGF for a few months now.)

In my opinion, a large part of the reason CJ is being especially tough on the GOP and the right because he believes nothing short of that will kick reality back into their brains. These fools are hurting all of us with their actions. Need evidence of this?

We have a war in Afghanistan about to be escalated, and Dick Cheney is attacking Obama in hopes of discrediting the entire Af-Pak strategy. The AGW summit is about to start in Copenhagen, and James Inhofe is tagging along in order to trash the global vote in order to satisfy his anti-AWG fantasy. Health Care reform is coming, and all Sarah Palin can do is spout nonsense re: "death panels", rather than contribute usefully to the debate. Dozens of congressional town hall meetings have been broken up by tea-baggers screaming and shouting, leading the strong possibility that congressmen won't hold such forums in the future.

Face it Rick, the GOP is acting badly and hurting America right now with. Were they acting the role of an honest opposition, CJ (and millions more Americans) would still be on board with you and other conservatives. When they return to reality, it will be years before moderates (like myself and many of my friends) listen closely to the GOP again. For the sake of our (2-party) democracy, I pray that happens sooner rather than later

SUPERBLY OBLIVIOUS TO HIS OWN IDIOCY

Sullivan is a pretty good writer and even if his Palin OCD leeds to nothing, I'll still read him just to get a nuanced opinion
on most of the things he writes about. Clearly the man is driven these days by the former Ms. Alaska, and if thats what he needs to get up in the morning and write, so be it. Stranger obsessions have been observed with writers/pundits before.

PS-Richard; Sully can't vote on anything; he's not a US citizen! Just sayin'...

PALIN AND HER SUPPORTERS IN A TIME WARP

Better congratulate you now for coming over to the good side of the force before the the wingnuts and the birthers and other assorted Palinites fill up the comments with mindless rage and ill-considered vitriol.

WHY AMERICA NEEDS A SHRINK

You can argue that we’re not losing anything by having government eventually taking over 1/6 of the American economy...

Doesn't the government control nearly half of the medical expenditures via medicare/medicaid/VA/ADA/SSI/mirad levels of regulation anyway? Will taking over another quarter of that figure really change much? The fact is, we've reached the point of no return in government involvement in healthcare long ago, so we may as well own up to ourselves to make it work properly and fairly for all Americans and legal immigrants.

A RELATIVELY SHORT FOLLOWUP TO MY PJ MEDIA ARTICLE ON BI-PARTISANSHIP

@Shaun:

The Republicans, as a group, are increasingly irrelevant assholes. The Democrats, as a group, don’t know how to use their majority to Americans’ best advantage, let alone govern.

There, fixed it!

THE HOPELESS BANALITY OF THE BLOGOSPHERE

Since it looks like I am going to hit the “publish” button, better batten down the hatches and lay out the plastic over the furniture. The spittle will be flying shortly.

Not this time, Rick. This is a very well thought out post with any anger being discretely placed at those bloggers jumping to conclusions and blowing sh*t out proportion. However, you didn't say a word about the MSM blowing spittle into the wind as their "news teams" wasted countless hours on television debating the supposed motivations of the attacker. We may decry bloggers for spewing garbage and disinformation about the Ft. Hood massacre, but such bad jumps of logic and thought tend to come with the territory that is the developing world of the blogisphere. By contrast, nearly all of the television coverage of the event was a total waste of time that took the nations focus off of the day's remaining important news. To me, that's the greater crime than a few rash bloggers!

MESSAGE SENT, LESSONS LEARNED

Thanks GOP. The money you vomited into Maine for this election season worked. Thanks churches. Your army of idiot reverends and priests led a good fight to take away rights from people who genuinely love each other.

It doesn't help the pro-gay marriage cause that the majority of the Dem leadership (including the President) is not behind them. Fact is, gays are going to have to keep on fighting for their civil rights with minimal political support from the party that is supposed to best represent an agenda for equality.

A WRITER'S LAMENT

You've hit the nail square on the head, Rick. When we read Right Wing Nut House, us readers aren't thinking about Rick Moran and what he thinks of the issues, we're thinking about ourselves and what we think of the issues! Even when we are "replying" to you in the comments (and many times us commentators are replying to only each other), 7 times out of 10 the typical commentator is speaking past you!

So don't feel bad about having just found this out, many bloggers haven't done so either about their readers. Your Mea Culpa here is very welcome in a society where the typical member refuses to admit fault for anything.

PS-The thing I particularly enjoy about your blog are your stinging remarks inside our comments. Can't think of another blogger who does that anywhere as frequently as you do...

WAR ON FOX OR BUSINESS AS USUAL?

Ronald Earl:

Where is is written that all major news outlets must interview the president? Should this be a law? What do you want to do, bring back the fairness doctrine?
